Swansea City vs. Manchester United

Really need to stop making Giggs a regular first team starter. This is not about performance. Even if he does OK, it is in a way hampering first team experience for others who are future.

This.

I'd rather take the risk and give Januzaj the chance.

Not a massive fan of that line-up. Nothing horrible, but I wouldn't have had either Giggs or Valencia starting. Nani and Kagawa would make more sense.

EDIT: Although actually I suppose Kagawa's on the bench because of the international travel, so maybe that's why Giggs is in. Still think Nani should have been picked over Valencia.

Nani injured

You guys need to seriously calm down over Giggs. It's the first match of the season ffs, away against a team many on here have claimed a draw they would be happy with.

Starting Giggs on the first day is in no way hampering with Januzaj's development.

The line up is good, would've preferred kagawa over giggs but maybe he isn't fit to start yet.

Needless to say, not an impressive midfield for the long run.

Only player to have played and scored in every Premier League campaign.

Giggsy is just looking for his goal... ;)

FInally the wait os over!! Cmon guys!! good luck!!

Tbh, its a pretty boring, but safe line up. Expected nothing different.

Yeah I've not really been paying attention, it makes more sense taking fitness into account. I don't think Giggs has been that sharp - he always has good moments but he doesn't do nearly enough of the leg-work, and gives the ball away too much. But if Kagawa and Rooney aren't fully fit then he's the next best thing.

Whilst I agree he can do that personally I think he's shown a lot of energy in pre season and shown a lot more than Kagawa has, Kagawa will play more over the season but no point having a strong squad if you're not gonna play the people who are fit and looking good. I don't think he'll let us down. It's not an ideal team, I'm sure Moyes would have liked to have rooney, nani, kagawa fit etc but I think with the players who are fit this is the best team.

Excited now!!

Moyes first game and a tough game away at Swansea. Bring it on!

Januzaj needs to play games this season or he'll feck off like Pogba. It seems unfair that our best players in pre season don't play or in Januzaj's case not even be on the bench.

Giggs' selection is very likely a short term expedient so no need to get too fussed over that. Winger are often rotated and with the opponent in mind i wasn't expecting to see two of them out there today anyway.

Evra looked to be in decent form during the community shield and our England representatives [with the exception of Rooney] were likewise, the XI's not ideal but i think it could yet surprise a few people.

If we're starting Giggs regularly come November then get back to me.

Pretty boring line up. Hope Rvp doesn't get isolated. We seem to have chosen wide players on the basis of their tracking back abilities.

Can't argue with the bench, though. Januzaj will get minutes but the Palace game is his first realistic chance. He came on last week anyway.

This part I agree with. If Kagawa was fit I'd want him in ahead of Giggs regardless of the latter having played more in pre-season. But unlike a few on here I can understand Moyes not wanting to start Januzaj in such an important match. Giggs will feel like a safer pair of hands to him. Whether or not that's actually the case is something we'll know by the final whistle.

Don't have the best of feelings for this one I have to admit, but can't wait for our season to begin. Maybe our lads will surprise me!

If Moyes had picked a risky team people would be complaining. If he picks a safe team, they are still complaining.

Unbelievable.

Surely he didn't have much choice? Nani and Young are injured I think, Kagawa has looked really rusty, suppose it's only Zaha and probably not the most ideal game to give him his debut at this level.

Could be Giggs left, probably won't be but last season he was actually brilliant on the left when he played there - much better than when he played in CM or attacking midfield.

I'd prefer Giggs left and Welbeck central

I know, people are actually going crazy that Januzaj isn't in the team as well. Crazy crazy world.

I'm assuming that Rooney's name was announced to either a generally muted or positive reaction? Otherwise we'd have heard news to the contrary.

Which he deserves to be a part of. Not a great precedent IMO.

You need to calm down ffs. You expected Januzaj to be handed his debut in the first game of the season away to Swansea? He'll get his chances so chill.

I wish a 1 ton weight would fall from the ceiling of Sky Sports studio onto Jamie Redknapp's punchable head.

Interested to see how the two new boys do in midfield for Swansea. I think that might be something we can exploit if Carrick and Cleverley get the ball on the floor.

This. If he picks the kid and he has a stinker and we get beat, he is on a hiding. Safe was always going to be the buzz word for today. With Kags having travelled, he was a no go, Giggs was the only realistic person to play. The kids will get chances this season, that I am sure.

OK, I think we really need to stop this Giggs vs Januzaj/Kagawa thing. First match starting in 20 min, lets hope our lads are up for it and get us 3 points!

The time for blooding Januzaj is the league cup and in the like of home games against relegation fodder, not away to Swansea in Moyes' first PL game in charge prior to probably the toughest run of games of our entire season.

I am not sure why people are moaning about this overly. No chance we would see both Januzaj and Zaha in the first team squad at the expense of our more experienced players in a tough opening away game at Swansea who can play football. Moyes has gone for Zaha. I am happy.
