The Independent Group for Change | Have decided to disband after ten months

It's a bold name considering their main aim as a party seems to be to rewind the country back to the start of 2015.

It'll be hilarious when they all lose their seats at the next general election

Awful name for a party. Will be interesting to see how this develops after brexit.

I wonder if Chuka and co are still annoyed by all those Red Tory jibes.

Anna Soubry wasting 30 seconds of Parliamentary time in the midst of one of the most important days in the history of the country for the sake of self-promotion is a beautiful encapsulation of her new 'party'. Start as you mean to continue I guess.

Putting a Tory as their leader is just such a massively monumental feck-up I reckon.

Its hard to fathom what they are thinking. Does it mean they see more potential in courting disaffected Tory voters than they do Labour ones? Despite the existence of Corbyn?

Possibly, but then I'm not really sure there's that much of a market for disaffected Tory voters. The majority of them support Brexit. They vote Tory because they fundamentally like the Tories. This is just going to seem like a watered down version of what they like. At most I can see them picking up disaffected liberal Tories in urban areas, but then that's not going to give them any path to power. Absolutely no idea what their strategy is here.

I think there will be a few disaffected Tories if the next stage in this saga is the Tories tacking hard right, putting some ERG fcknuts in charge and going all out anti EU. I can only imagine this is what the CUKs are banking on happening.

It seems strange to me. I actually support the idea of having new parties, I think the ones we have have clearly lost their way. But it seems like the vacuum here is the space New Labour vacated. That would suck in a fair few disaffected Tories anyway, but it is easier to get there from the Labour side, than to go to a new Tory-lite party. That just isnt going to happen.

For me the problem with the new party is that they're basically the Lib Dems. You've got two parties competing in the centre-ground which strikes me as a bit mental.

Except the Lib Dems arent competing for anything. Theyre done. Theyre like a chicken with no head, still running around flapping its wings, but clearly not long for this world.

I suspect they're scrambling to get on an election footing in case one is called and they've not had time to really formulate a strategy. It makes sense to give Allen and Chuka the key positions as they're the only two who have a chance at surviving an election. Most of the Labour lot are in seats which will vote in the next Labour candidate by a country mile. Soubry's current majority is tiny, Angela Smith's isn't much bigger and both will likely be gone without party backing.

Chuka and Allen might just have enough name recognition to hang onto their respective seats. If they do it'll be a huge achievement for their 'party'. If not they'll be universally ridiculed and then quickly forgotten.

Probably, yeah, would perhaps make more sense for the Lib Dems to join them. Starting with an extra few MP's might help them out. For as much as I don't see the Lib Dems making any sort of big recovery though, it's probably worth noting that they do still attract millions of votes across the country. And while that's not exactly translating into any sort of success, it seems bizarre to have two ideologically identical parties separated. It's a terrible electoral approach.

Agreed. I hope they can get their acts together. There is a hint of Judean People's Front about the whole thing at the moment.

At the end of the day, they could have a much more coherent electoral strategy than they have and it wouldnt be enough to make any of this lot relevant. The country is in no mood for centrism at the moment.

Are these basically going to be what the Lib Dem’s used to be then?

Maybe that's why they're going full-on right-wing eh.

Basically. With less emphasis on drug decriminalisation and fewer cardigans.

So basically giving up the only good Lib Dem policy.

In fairness, their spending pledges at the last election were judged as more progressive than Labour's in a distributive analysis.

But yes, this is a shit name.
