The Manager's press conference today at 12:00 BST

McNair to partner Smalling. Shaw left back. Rooney likely to play holding role. RvP or Falcao up front. I can't see anything beyond this line up.

I wouldn't mind seeing Rafael and Valencia on the right side to stop Hazard. Mata can play as an attacking midfielder.

------De Gea------
Valencia----McNair----Smalling----Shaw
-------------Fellaini
Herrera---------------Di Maria
Mata------Rooney---..Young

--Fellaini-Herrera--
Mata-Rooney-Young
----------Falcao---------

I don't want Rooney to play as a DM

Having Fellaini sitting deep will hurt us. He's never really been good enough there. For one game you never know but we will struggle with an outball with Falcao up top alone as he can barely trap a bag of sand these days. Hope LVG can come up with some sort of master plan, but then I'm sure he's known most of the week who will be available.

We hardly have a choice. Unless we have someone we can pick to play that role in reserves.

Basically, we're fecked.

Chelsea are almost certain to win and - depending on prognosis of the players - I can see us dropping even more points in the next couple of weeks and a swift return to the doom and gloom that was so prevalent just a few weeks ago.

I'll get my "Van Gaal Out!!!" in early....

Do we have a defender we can put as dm? Oscar and hazard will fly past Rooney and Herrera for fun.

How long are these players out for? One game we can afford to lose but we need these players, at least one each of the midfielders and centre backs back asap. Blind and carrick both out is just overkill as is Jones and Rojo.

Evans at the back and fellaini as defensive misfielder is a scary thought

Come on, it's not that bad. :)

Those injuries dont sound serious. LVG hoped Jones and Blind could be fit so that means they'll be ready. Carrick was a doubt so his injury doesnt sound serious too.

McNair is the only one that I can think of, not a fan of that though as it will mean playing Blackett at centre half.

Just saw that we have Everton next week. Tough couple of games if these players don't return quickly.

Great. Let's sneak a draw tomorrow and get back to winning ways after.

A win tomorrow would be a bonus at this stage.

Jones injured a-fecking-gain. That, ladies and gents, is why we simply cannot go into next season with him and Smalling as our first choice central defensive pairing.

In fact, you could argue that neither of them should be part of our first choice pairing. Not until they prove themselves capable of playing more than a dozen consecutive games at least once in their career.
It's ridiculous really. Jones is a disaster.

So our lucky charm Paddy is back,
I am still confidant we can get something out of this game.

He's better than Rooney as a DM. By a margin.
His worst games for United were playing as a midfielder. His best position is what we've witnessed over the last few months.

Relax. He said that Jones and Carrick were close to making this game. Pragmatically speaking, if there is one game that we can justify losing, it is this one.

Nonetheless, I still sense a victory.

Man up son, man up.

...and Mata. That's why I reckon Rafael should play on the right for a bit of defensive solidity. However, LvG does't like playing players who have been out for so long.

If we hadn't got the results we have recently I would be panic stricken. As long as the injuries are not all long term I am more chilled. As long as they aren't all out for the Everton game then I think we can take a hit here. As long as we don't get badly beaten. I actually still think we could get something out of the game.

Valencia-Herrera midfield, giving Rafael his long awaited chance at RB?
Probably not..

They will have worked on this scenario all week probably.

We have nice 8 days for all of them to get fit.

Draw would be great, knowing Jose he'll go for draw too. So 0:0, quick counter and Falcao goal for instance. :)

Or 2:2 and our counter goal all of a sudden.

We'll gotta go for the win, Di Maria maybe now gets his chance.. Need some magic upfront when Rooney is most likely now dropped to a holding role..

That's exactly my thinking too, I think we'll be fine.

I concur. I don't understand why people would prefer to see Rooney, who's never really played DM, in that position for us before a player who has had experience playing there and has actually done well on a few occasions. It's the only choice at the moment.

We were probably going to get maximum 1 point at Stamford anyway. It's crucial that we get them back in time for Everton game and win there to seal top 4.
