The Manager's press conference today at 12:00 BST

I think if there's anything that Van Gaal has said to throw people off the scent in the presser it could be the suggestion Rooney will play in midfield. He wouldn't go as far to completely lie about injuries, but the suggestion Rooney would be moved back seemed to have a "maybe" element and the fact he'd never want to give up his line up suggests he may be playing games. I think there's a good chance we'll see Herrera and Fellaini at the base of midfield with Di maria/Young/Mata as the 3 behind Rooney.

If there is anything we learnt last year, it is that Fellaini should never play in the base of midfield.

Chelsea will get a boost from this news but at the end of the day it doesn't change the fact their team is knackered/playing like shit and Costa is injured, I think we could still win this but it also wouldn't surprise me if we were a complete shambles defensively tomorrow :nervous:

I am not sure how I feel about Fellaini partnering Herrera at the base of the midfield but his form this season has been amazing. I hope he can pull it off.

Again, we've seen it earlier in the season. I believe Carrick wasn't in the squad and Blind went off injured. Rooney played CDM for the rest of the match, not Herrera or Fellaini. We have no depth in defensive midfielders since Fletcher left.

Rooney is one of the few players in the squad (with Carrick, Blind and Fellaini - although the latter as 10) to be deemed good enough for a defensive role in midfield. Since he always has 2 defensive players in his midfield (unless he plays 3 at the back, then 1 is enough) will mean Rooney plays in midfield, he's the only option. No need to shuffle it even more, just play Rooney at CDM since he's the least-worst fit. This would leave the rest unchanged in midfield.

The CDM has to build up play, I'd rather see 'hollywood ball'-Rooney do this than Fellaini - since he can be our safety net via long balls.

Exactly.. I think Rooney playing in midfield is certain.. Just not able to decide if he is going to use Di Maria's pace and play him as a striker or play Falcao.. I think it's going to be Di Maria playing as striker as he has done a few times this season..

In the 352 though. Di Maria hasn't played as the sole striker. I think it'll be Falcao.
