i would quite like gsp to fight serra again to show the first time was a fluke

agreed. plus Hughes is an utter twat.

I would rather see GSP fight both of them again and smash both of them. If Hughes beats Serra, GSP gets Hughes and then after GSP disposes of him, he will face Serra and pound him into pulp.

he quit?
blimey....
but still... it's better he quit as champ instead of after a beating.
he's a legend

his training centre looks cool.
i saw a bit of it on that tv show where that sexy girl spends a day with different ufc fighters.
i want to go to that trampoline place! it looked great fun.

I watched 77 last night. Rich is my favourite fighter and I truly think his career's over. I really felt bad for him last night, such a bad way for him to go out too.
On a another note, anderson silva is truly something else I really can't see anyone beating him to be honest with you. The guy is undefeatable imo. He will be champ for the next 3-4 years I think.
Good to see Sylvia back too with a win on vera. It a shame for Tim to be so self-conscious about pleasing the fans who view him as boring (I don't) because he really is a great fighter. Nice challenge to congo also. That would be a good fight.

UFC 77 was really good but the home crowd didn't go home happy. Both local fighters lost (franklin and Gurgel) and Sylvia, the man all fans seem to hate, won too.

silva v Franklin
Awesome performance from the Spider who after edging the first round, went mental in the second and pounded Franklin to bits. the fact that he can be so dominant to the clear number 1 contender shows how much better Silva is than anybody else in the world - my pound for pound number 1 in the UFC.

Sylvia v Vera
A real boring fight where Sylvia kept the distance short and used his size and strength to basically hold Vera. Looked good when they split and Tim let his hands go and he looked fitter and sharper than his previous fights. Vera broke his hand in round 1 and you could see it was effecting him - basically he was trying to elbow Tim as he couldn't punch. Shame and I think there could be a re-match on the cards.

Unless Hendo finally decides to drop the weight and go back to MW....

Completely forgot about Dan the man. It would be a close fight I reckon. That would be something to see. Actually there are a lot of fights I want to see. Again, I'm gutted about Rich's loss. I thought he could do it but looks like he's gonna be out of the UFC.
Hey RC, what do you think of a congo and silva match up?

Hey RC, what do you think of a congo and silva match up?

Silvia v Kongo would probably be a pretty crap match to be honest. Kongo is kickboxer with absolutely no ground game, offence or defence. Sylvia is a striker with little ground game game, offence or defence. Neither has much submission ability; however, Sylvia did at least try some submissions against Monson (which was laughable as he would never have submitted an eight-time Abu Dhabi Heavyweight champion... oh if you don't know Abu Dhabi is an annual pure submission fighting tournament).

Both fighters would stay outside, Kongo would throw repeated kicks to the rib cage (ala his match versus CroCop) and Sylvia would look to land the one big knockout punch like he does in most fights. The only excitement would be in the clinch as both fighters are strong and have pretty good clinch games (Kongo with his knees and Sylvia with his muscle-takedown technique).

I don't see Kongo winning as he won't be able to out-muscle Sylvia as he did CroCop, which he really only did after he broke CroCop's rib at the end of the first round. I would see the outcome as an unanimous decision for Sylvia.

I think it would be a good fight since they won't be on the ground you know. Since neither of them don't really have any ground game, they would resort striking. It would be a boring fight if they just danced around each other for the 3 rounds. I like sylvia and don't think he's boring so I could like the fight either way.

I just like the all-round fighters who can stand up and strike or take it to the ground, pound you out or submit you. Both of these guys are so one-dimensional that you know it would just be a kickboxing match in a cage. If I wanted to watch that I would watch K1...

yeah, I get what your sayin, I guess it's just down to personal preference. I like sylvia so thats probably why I'd like to see the fight.
Who is the number one contender for rampages belt or belts?

Afternoon gents how are we all??

I have to disagree - Tim Sylvia gets a lot of stick from MMA fans but he is actually really quite difficult to beat. People that say he has no ground game are talking shite - he went up against Jeff Monson and did perfectly well against a WC grappler. If Kongo vs Tim went to the deck - Kongo would get mauled IMO. Dont get me wrong Kongo is doing well but beating Cro Cop really didnt impress me that much..... from day 1 Mirko has looked like he couldnt give a shit about being in the UFC, really quite bizarre and a tragic fall from grace.

Hmmm..... although I do give credit to Anderson as he is a great fighter, you have to say that the MW division really is lacking in depth badly when compared to the other weight classes. There really isnt a lot out there..... in his time in the UFC he has only fought 2 fighters of a decent calibre - Frankilin and Marquadt.

Joe Rogan said something interesting in the congo mirko fight which was that cro-cop trains in a pride style ring rather than a ufc cage and he said that it has effected him tremendously. I agree with rogan in his assessment. Plus cro cop looked really shellshocked after he lost to that dude (forgot his name the guy that he lost to before congo). I think he needs to regroup completely and begin training in a ufc cage and once he does that he will be back in contention.

He gets stick because he's a boring fighter. Doesn't mean he's no good because he's obviously an excellent fighter. Being as large as he is, he comes off as sluggish, but he is actually quite efficient at what he does. It's just that what he does isn't that exciting as he is mostly a knockout artist, who waits for the perfect opportunity and the KOs his opponent. If the opportunity doesn't present itself he just grinds out decisions.

I do agree that the MW division is by far the weakest in the UFC, you can't take anything away from Silva for the way he has dominated. Lets noto forget that RF was a decent 205 fighter before putting in the hard work to get down to 185 and is massive for a 185 fighter.

Apparently there is going to be a 'huge announcement' tongiht from Dana White regarding UFC 79. I am in the UK so don't get the Spike TV broadcasts - anybody heard what it might be?

Wanderlei Silva versus Chuck Liddell December 29, 2007 UFC 79 Nemesis

I actually have no probs whatsoever with his methodolgy...... you give me the opportunity to be a boring winner and get a fat ass pay check or be an exciting loser and get the shit kicked out of me and I know which one I take...

It like MUFC...... do you take a 1-0 win or a 6-5 loss????

Wanderlei Silva versus Chuck Liddell December 29, 2007 UFC 79 Nemesis

Silva via face smashing....

I always knew Chuck would come unstuck in a big way. For him to be truly successful he needed more tools in his bag - for a striker he rarely used kicks or knees and just relied on a great TKD defence. Thats fine against fighters who are first and foremost grapplers but when you come up against some one who is more than happy to stand up and trade properly........ it was always gonna get messy.

you watch ufc?... that's cool.

yeah... it's cos serra is a better coach and corner man.
throughout the fights you can hear serra telling his fighters exactly what to do at each stage... and they listen.
hughes hardly tells them anything except an occaisional comment.

yes I watch it my favourite tv show at the moment along with Last One Standing ...I'm not the usual girly girl. Huges got pissed the other night because his guys don't listen to him very well...serra annoys me with his shouting

hehe.. my girlfriend hates his shouting too.
his voice is annoying, but it seems too work.... his fighters are winning and it's not because they are particularly better.

Both Serra and Hughes are twats....

True.... but Serra gets the vote as the bigger twat IMO...

Hughes is a UFC legend and sure fire Hall of Famer when he retires so at least he's earned the right to be a twat, Serra....... he's just a mouthy chump who got lucky against GSP. I hope to God Hughes wipes the floor with him..... preferably with his signature crucifix move!!

Hopefully Hendo drops down to fight Silva.

I haven't seen Hendo enough to form an opinion as to the outcome of that fight, but after seeing Franklin get punked again...I'm not overly optimistic that Hendo could do better.

I think Silva will get Okami next, and likely kill him.

I could see Hendo taking one more fight and then dropping down to MW (hopefully)

Hendo v Silva would be a really good fight. Silva won't be able to knock him out (no one has in his career), so he will have to grind out a decision, which would be difficult against a wrestler the caliber of Henderson (a former Olympic wrestler in Roman Greco).

Hendo vs Silva would be awesome. I think Hendo would win by TKO.

Not to take anything away from Silva but the MW division really is quite weak in comparison to the others. The LHW division is beyond a joke - even outside the Top 10 its stacked with good fighters!

Totally agree, the MW division is the weakest of all in the entirety of MMA. Outside of Hendo and Matt Lindland there really isn't anybody left to fight Silva.

Decided to get into this, so I watched UFC 77. It was very entertaining, and I'm sure it will be even more entertaining when I get to know the fighters.
My personal highlight of the event was watching Anderson Silva beat the living hell out of that peculiar Carragher looking Cincinnati local boy.

A question though. Do they have weekly events, or is it only the monthly shows?

On a side note, I am looking very much forward to see Brock Lesnar in the octagon being a wrestling fan and all.

Good man....

Mark my words if Dana White doesnt feck things up (which is a distinct possibility!) then MMA will become one of THE global sports in 10-15 years time.
