The MMA thread

Wow what a great night.....

Absolutely gutted for Silva - just think Liddell winning serves no purpose, although TBF Chuck looked really well prepped for this one. Just makes you wonder what Chuck couldve done if he'd been a clean living fighter instead of a hard drinking, Playboy bunny fecker!! Jackson was shaking his head in the crowd looking disappointed...... I wonder whether he was in fact relieved!?! Just as Jackson has Chucks number, Silva has Quintons.....

Think they'll have Chuck vs TUFer next - could be Evans. Dont think theyll have a Jardine rematch.

Machida...... Holy shit!.... I had an inkling about this guy but that fight was surreal and spooky!! There are some idiots out there that say he is boring but I find his fights totally rivetting..... the guys technique is one of the best Ive seen in a MMA fighter. Its weird when you see him fight its like a martial artist in there rather than a MMA fighter if that makes any sense!?!? Have you noticed in his fights how most of the time he comes out without a scratch!!?? The guy reminds me of Ryu from Street Fighter II (and spookily Ryu I believe is the shortened version of Ryoto!)

:nervous:

Should put him up against a good wrestler next - Tito would be a great and marketable fight.

GSP...... what is there left to say about this guy?!?! He is an absloute monster..... that armbar he pulled on Hughes..... did you see Hughes squeal!?! I felt really quite melancholy watching that fight - have always been a big Hughes fan and to see him getting raped like that was very disheartening. Just hope he gets the chance to go out in a blaze of glory by fecking over that cnut Serra.....

:(

GSP wont make the mistakes he did first time when he comes up against 'The Terror' next.....

PS Clementi vs Guillard...... funny as feck - those 2 just hate each other totally and utterly! Loved Rich's 'finishng move' on Melvin

Fedor Meets Van Damme after HMC Fight at Yarennoka

Van Damme is in love....

Look at the wink....

:lol::lol:

TBH I think if I had the chance to hug Fedor Id have to immediately kill myself afterwards and have my corpse embalmed to preserve his odour.....

:D

Yeah, but would you give him the "I want to suck your cock wink"???

Talking of Mr VD...... I presume youre aware that he is a massive charlatan - blagging about his martial arts background when in fact all he is trained in ballet and gymnastics??

I see Machida has accepted a fight against Ortiz...... if Tito accepts I think this is an excellent match up.

Really not sure on this..... even though Tito isnt a Top10 LHW - he is one of the best wrestlers in the division (if not the best) and this is the only category that Lyoto is untested against. As far as Im aware Tito has NEVER been subbed in his career - so although that doesnt mean he wont ever, it does mean that its not a likely outcome. Since Lyoto is BBBJJ, good at Judo and very slippery on the deck - I dont see him getting subbed either.

The only ways I could see this fight ending are...

Tito via GNP

OR

Lyoto via UD or TKO.

Im going with Lyoto..... close call but his striking is much better than Tito's and although he is a smaller LHW I dont think that will be an issue as hes still 6"2 and walks around at 215lbs - so the diff isnt huge and he absolutely nailed Soku who was bigger than him.

Machida will win that fight. Tito's only hope would be Lay N Pray... And I don't think he's stupid enough to take that fight.

Machida should fight Chuck next....

UFC is Suing Couture

Heavyweight champ in breach of contract, MMA group claims

By ADAM HILL
REVIEW-JOURNAL
The strained relationship between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and its heavyweight champion Randy Couture has taken another bad turn -- directly into a Las Vegas courtroom.

Lawyers for Zuffa, LLC, the UFC's parent company, on Monday filed suit in Clark County District Court, alleging chiefly that Couture's comments about the UFC and its senior management caused the business irreparable damage and that he is in breach of the contract he signed with the company in December 2006.

"We are alleging numerous intentional torts, which have caused Zuffa and the UFC significant harm," attorney Donald J. Campbell said. "Based upon that harm we are seeking to address these matters before a court of law."

The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $10,000 and states that the amount of both compensatory and punitive damages would be proven at trial. It also seeks an injunction restraining Couture from participating in any way in any promotion competing against the UFC.

The lawsuit is the latest episode of discord between Couture and UFC President Dana White, who said he has considered Couture a friend for eight years.

"What's really tough for me, to be honest, is we have been friends for a very long time," White said. "The hard part is that he is not living up to his obligations. Captain America is not keeping his word."

Couture is listed as the UFC heavyweight champion, even though the fighter and organization have been engaged in a public dispute that included his resignation from the company. An interim title match has been scheduled.

The tense relationship between Couture and the UFC, namely White and co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, became public on Oct. 11 when Couture held a news conference at his Las Vegas gym. Couture detailed his frustrations with the company and announced he was resigning from the UFC.

Couture claimed Fertitta and White had lied to him; that the company paid "off-the-books" bonuses to fighters; that he never was paid a signing bonus that had been negotiated in his December 2006 contract; and that the company treated many of its athletes poorly.

Fertitta and White held their own news conference the following week, during which they addressed Couture's allegations and produced copies of checks cashed by Couture, including the signing bonus. The checks showed the heavyweight to be making much more money than he had claimed.

In the months since, the battle of words has continued and the sides have been unable to work things out.

"I expect Randy to honor the obligations in his contract that he signed (a year ago). I tried to resolve it by talking to this guy that I've had a relationship with for eight years and was unsuccessful," White said. "Now this thing's in the hands of the justice system."

Monday's lawsuit claims Couture's negative statements about the company constituted "injurious falsehood and trade disparagement," that has led to significant financial losses for the UFC.

The lawsuit also alleges conspiracy, stating that several unnamed parties to be identified at a later date worked with Couture to intentionally inflict harm on the UFC.

According to the lawsuit, Couture is also in breach of a stipulation that prohibits him from engaging in "direct or indirect competition" with the UFC for a period of 12 months following the termination of his contract.

Thus, Couture's sponsorship and promotion of a team in the International Fight League would be in direct violation of the stipulation. Currently, the IFL's Web site lists Couture's Xtreme Couture team taking on Mario Sperry's World Class Fight Center at the IFL's Feb. 29 card at the Orleans Arena.

A message left on Couture's cell phone on Monday was not returned.

Dont really watch UFC but when I was in Vegas few weeks ago there was an advertise UFC match between Brock Lesnar and someone I can't remember at the Mandalay Bay. Who won that ehh??

Mir is finished as a fighter since his motorcycling accident. I reckon Lesner will beat him and will end up being a major force.

Sylvia and Nogueira should be a better fight though. I hope Nogueira knocks the shit out of Tim, he is the one fighter that I dislike above every else and I don't know why.

:wenger:

Aye, that was an exciting fight. Was hoping Brock would win and he nearly pulled it off. The punch to the back of the head was bullshit imo and if it hadn't been stood up at that point I think Brock could have stopped him. He was overextending his arms constantly though, so it was always likely Mir would catch him with something.

Didn't really care about last night's matchups. Was happy to see that GSP is getting Serra in Canada at UFC 83 though. Hopefully he'll kick the shit out of that little feck with the crowd at his back.

im glad lesnar got beat! he is a fecker..

Why? Comes across as a decent guy to me, and an incredibly dedicated and hardworking athlete. Still think Steve Austin and the Undertaker should have invaded the Octagon. Tombstone piledrivers ahoy!

It wasn't the most significant card but I enjoyed it. None of the fights were dull.

All of them talk shit before their fights. Lesnar was very unlucky because the point was deducted without any warning. After the match Lesner was a great loser saying he was beaten by a better man. I was happy Mir beat him but I gained a huge amount of respect for Lesner for his conduct after the match. I can't wait to see him back and he will be a serious contender for the title in a few years. He is still only 30 and he is massive.

Mir v Minotauro would be an interesting fight. I was delighted to see him beat the Maniac. I'm not sure why I don't like Tim, I just don't like him.

Can't wait for Henderson v the Spider

The only thing Mir has is BJJ and he isn't even in the same galaxy when it comes to Big ***'s BJJ.

Mir's was afraid of Marcio "Pe De Pano" Cruz's BJJ (a match in which he got tooled) and Pe De Pano isn't in Minotauro's league.....

Its true that Minitauro's bjj is much better than Mir's, but Mir proved last night that he only needs one opening for a submission. One second of an opening and it was over. And that was after he was pummelled by a much bigger man in Lesner. If he trained and dedicated himself a lot more like he should then he would be class.

And Lesner will be class. He was caught by a submission but he can only improve and he will learn from that. He is a monster. I would love to see the two losers Lesner and Sylvia fight. That would also be interesting.

And when the hell is Arlovski coming back??

True, but a BJJ master like Big *** doesn't give you an opening. Plus, if he somehow did get caught he has the ability and experience to escape.

I agree. Lesnar needs to train his BJJ. He has done very little training in that area, but with some more time and matches he will be a beast.

He's taking on Jake O'Brien at UFC 82 on March 1

Yea thinking about it Big N should have too much for Mir. But then again Big N hasn't been too impressive in the UFC. We'll see after his next fight. I don't know who he'll fight with Couture gone atm

I didn't see the updated card for UFC 82. I'm delighted so that Andrei is back. He is probably my favourite fighter behind CroCop.

If Lesner fought somebody who's bjj is not that good then I think he would demolish them. He needs a lot more mma fights before he gets into the cage with one of the big dogs again.

Yeah, not sure why Joe Silva (UFC's matchmaker) threw him in with the only type of fighter (BJJ) that could really cause him a whole lot of problems. But with more training and a few fights against some cans that the UFC will now inevitably throw him, he'll be back in with the top guys by the end of 09.
