The MMA thread

ability wise Ithink he can do it and hes just starting to get enough of a profile stateside to warrent a decent fight...

i personally think gsp is a step ahed of everybody in the division... then there is fitch kamperman and alaves... then after that i think dans up there with the likes of thiago & kosacheck...

I agree he has not really been in the cage with a recognised top class fighter but hopefully that will happen next time and give himself the oppertunity to establish himself...

i just hope he does not get kampmann though... hes big for a 170 fighter

He is big alright but he's not that good. Hardy could definitely take him anyway. That would move him right up the ladder. Koscheck isn't that good either. He would be a nice fight to get. If Hardy could neutralise his wrestling, he would surely be favourite.

He got a bad finger in the eye towards the end, but even if that didn't happen Cro-Cop would have battered him.

Cro Cop was killing him at that stage anyway. He was better off losing when he did. He could have got seriously injured.

Nice to see Mirko back but he looked a bit slow. He could still just be recuperating from his ops.

I was quite suprised the ref didn't realise that there had been a finger in the eye, I can't remember a fighter going down holding his face like that without it being stopped to be checked.

Nobody seemed to see it though. He probably just thought your man was bottling it as he was getting the shit kicked out of him.

I didn't see it either, but when I saw him going down like that, I guessed there had been a finger. Looked a fecking nasty one too.

Early predictions for 100?

Lesnar v Mir - Lesnar. If Mir is completely fit I could see him submitting Lesnar, but Lesnar only needs one second to change the fight.

Alves v GSP - GSP. Alves is probably my favourite fighter, but I can't see him getting past GSP. His wrestling and striking is too good.

Bisping v Henderson - Bisping. Henderson wasn't really that impressive vs Franklin, even after nearly taking his eyeball out. Bisping has a potential title fight vs Silva after this if he wins.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
Georges St-Pierre vs. Thiago Alves
Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir
Georges St-Pierre vs. Thiago Alves
Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher

I don't think Mir is fully fit so Lesnar will beat him. There'll be a third fight then and if Mir can get back to full fitness, he will submit Brock.

GSP is outstanding. I think it'll be a great fight against Alves but GSPs ability is unbelievable.

I think Henderson is a better fighter than Bisping. I think he will win.

I fancy Bisping against Henderson personally

i hope he does win...

because then it tees up a title fight against silva in manchester and dan is sure to get a top name as a co -headlliner

i think bisping has a chance but if i had to bet my wages id go with the % which is for me henderson...

ground game in the uk is limited... an im a martial artist from the uk admiting that... there is blue belts in gracie centres in usa who would be given blackbelts over here...

i think bisping has a chance but he needs to controll the pace of the fight and step it up in later rounds...

in the last 2 years henderson has only had 4 fights and discounting the sliva loss they have all gone to the judges so i think bisping needs to have this in mind and just like with muay thai scoring think about the latter rounds...

much better to get jabbed around the octagon for a round or two at the start if at the end you are dictating the pace at the end because in the judges mind is what would happen if there was another round or two...

henderson is very good at this and i think to a large part bisping has to be aware of this...

part of me wants him to fail so that dan can be the 1st uk ufc fighter with a title shot but a bigger part of me wuld like him to win...

but with a cold calculating odds head on i still make henderson favourite

Which UFC is going to be in Manchester? 105?

not confirmed yet but apparently...

dana did promice a title fight in the uk this year... and silva pulled out of the last uk evenet (after i spent several hundereds on ring side seats)...

he aslso has been saying that winner of henderson bisping gets a title shot so it make sence...

though in trutrh i think marquet vs maia sould be the next challenger on merit... though as ive pointed out on several posts and know from talking to different people its more about sthe ppv sales than it is pure talent as to who gets a shot

Delighted Dan Hardy beat that plastic paddy twat. Now I'm hoping Bisping can beat Hendo, but I'm not sure he can.

Lesnar vs Mir, toughie. I literally can't pick a winner, I know that Lesnar could just blow Mir away but even if he does that I know Mir is so dangerous he could pull something out of the bag - just like their first encounter.

GSP vs Alves. Now Alves and GSP are two of my fave fighters and although normally I would want GSP to win, I just want Alves to win this time. Even though he won't.

Why didnt Setanta show the Ultimate fighter finale live?

I'm watching this now, but was pissed off yesterday when it wasn't on

Guida is probably the most exciting fighter in the UFC.

Yeah he's quality. Him and Sanchez' stare off at the start was quality, and then Sanchez fecking tore into him, it was one of the most exciting fights I've seen in a while.

Also, I am from Ireland, but they did show the TUF 9 finale live over here.

Got my first heavy weight fight coming up in 3 weeks in Bradford fellow tards, i will be 46 so hope i dont break nothin lol.

Trained for one in Leeds a couple of weeks ago and absaloutley worked my bollox off for ten solid weeks. Trained 2-3 hours most days through some pretty nasty little injuries.

Thirty of my mates bought tickets and travelled from Manchester, weighed in had my photo and was sorting my shit in the changing room and the m.c said my scouse opponent hadnt turned up... Gutted and embarrased.

In the May 2009 issue of Fight! Magazine, THQ highlighted some of the setbacks they faced during the development of "UFC 2009 UNDISPUTED" and as a result of various clipping issues within the collision detection. They stated that they removed rising UFC star Clay Guida from the roster due to the clipping issues presented by his lengthy hair on his character model. Guida was even offered $10,000 to cut his hair for the game, but he refused.

Did Judo for about four years when i was in my 20's and have been dabbbling with MMA for about the last four years though training seriously in it for the last 10 months or so.

3 x 3 semi pro rules. (Knees to the napper which suits me just fine.)

Did a 2 x 5 min grappling contest with semi contact striking recently , won it and we got best fight which was pleasant but ye.... you dig deep into your lungs on those 5 minute rounds.

It's on for the next 6 months on Setanta I think.

i read somewhere that ufc were looming for a new host for ufc 100...

http://www.mmafighting.com/news/2009/06/23/ufc-terminates-agreement-with-setanta-sports

and from gareth davis blog
The Ultimate Fighting Championship organisation confirmed it has terminated its agreement with Setanta Sports, as of this morning.

Setanta had been the broadcaster of UFC(R) live events and programming since January 2008. At its peak, more than 250,000 viewers were watching live UFC events on the now troubled broadcaster, which appears to be heading towards administration,

It appears the UFC may now look to move towards a new television deal with Bravo, Virgin 1, or even Channel 5 or Sky Sports. With UFC 100 on the horizon, taking place on July 11 in Las Vegas, and a growing fan base in the UK, the organisation will want to move quickly to secure a broadcast deal.

Marshall Zelaznik, UFC UK Division President, said: “It was with great regret that the UFC ended its relationship with Setanta. Over the last two years, Setanta has helped the UFC become the biggest indoor sporting event in the British Isles.

“They were the right partner for us at the right time as we continued to build the sport of mixed martial arts and our brand.

“Throughout the last few weeks we have been kept informed of the situation at Setanta and therefore we are in a position to ensure our UK and Eire fans will not miss any of this summer’s huge UFC events, commencing with UFC 100 in July.

“We will be announcing the new home of UFC shortly but assure our fans they won’t miss any of the upcoming super-fights.”

Zelaznik added: “And on behalf of the UFC I want to wish the team at Setanta all the strength to get through what must be very difficult times. We have worked very closely with the entire Setanta team over the past years and wish them the best of luck in the future.”

where did you here that they have the next 6 months... from what they said on 5 live they wont be broadcasting for 6 months will they?????

The UFC on Tuesday morning confirmed it has terminated its agreement with Setanta Sports.

The news as the troubled pay-TV broadcaster went into administration on Tuesday afternoon after losing TV rights to both English and Scottish Premier League football.

Setanta went off the air at 6pm BST on Tuesday evening.

UFC UK Division President Marshall Zelaznik said: “It was with great regret that the UFC ended its relationship with Setanta. Over the last two years, Setanta has helped the UFC become the biggest indoor sporting event in the British Isles.

“They were the right partner for us at the right time as we continued to build the sport of mixed martial arts and our brand.

He added: “And on behalf of the UFC I want to wish the team at Setanta all the strength to get through what must be very difficult times. We have worked very closely with the entire Setanta team over the past years and wish them the best of luck in the future.”

iFight365.com understands that both Bravo and ESPN are in the running to land rights to the UFC and that an announcement regarding the future of UFC programming in the UK is to be announced in the very near future.

ESPN on Monday announced it had purchased rights to the 46 Premier League games that Setanta previously had the rights to and would show the games live in the UK in HD.

The UFC’s agreement with Setanta had around six months left to run.

Just hours after the UFC’s announcement Setanta Sports called in Deloitte to act as administrators for its UK business after last-ditch efforts to secure a rescue package failed.

Deloitte was appointed at around 2.30pm BST, with staff at Setanta’s UK offices told shortly before of latest developments. Up to 200 jobs will be lost as a result of today’s news, with more job losses in Setanta’s call centres likely to follow.

Its worth noting that Setanta’s operations in Ireland and overseas are not affected by today’s news.

Ah. :( I read that earlier as "had 6 months", so I thought we'd get up until 105. Ah well. Worst comes to worst, we'll just have to download it.

Anywhere but Sky :( 30 quid a month, feck that.

30 quid a month... plus i bet they would make it £10 for most of the ufc's £20 for a good one and probably £30 a time for the PPV

No, I already have sky sports, but they will probably make UFC events PPV, which would probably be about thirty quid or whatever. I'll always have sky, can't live without the football :p

dunno... ufc turne sky down before as they wanted ppv...

they are trying to grow the sport so ppv does not fit into thir model... so i hope thats why they will turn them doen (well untill they are more established then its inevitable)...

Hope they go back to Bravo or move to Sky Sports

Just as long as it's available at no extra charge to my Sky subscription :D
