UFC 82: Pride of a Champion - Saturday, March 1 - Columbus, Ohio

UFC MW Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs Pride MW Champion Dan "Hollywood" Henderson Hendo is riding high after knocking out Wandy but frankly I question the quality of the win. Wandy is damaged goods since Crocop nearly decapitated him - Silva by UD

Cheick Kongo vs "Crazy Horse" Heath Herring Kongo has NO ground game. Herring will take him down and grind out a decision or maybe mount him and get a TKO - Herring by blanket

"The Pitbull" Andrei Arlovski vs Jake O'Brien Arlovski is fighting for his MMA career. He is in contractual limbo with the UFC right now and he needs a good showing to raise his stock for a possible re-sign with the UFC or a move to M1 Global or EliteXC - Arlovski by pit bull rage

Yushin Okami vs Evan Tanner Okami is a monster and had he been more aggressive against Franklin from the get go he would have won an easy decision - Okami by UD

John Fitch vs Chris Wilson Fitch is a beast. I don't even know who Chris Wilson is and I am a pretty big MMA fan - Fitch wins it

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez vs David Bielkheden Diego, has rededicated himself to bulking up at 170 after considering a drop to 155. Diego still a top 5-10 guy at 170 - Diego by GnP stoppage

Josh Koscheck vs Dustin Hazelett Koscheck is a good wrestler - Koscheck by human blanket.

Chris Leben vs "Legionarius" Alessio Sakara Leben is a can Alessio by UD

Luke Cummo vs Luigi Fioravanti Luke Cummo

Jorge Gurgel vs John Halverson Don't really care about either guy to have an opinion ;p

Got this on a stream - wahoo! Cant fecking believe this though. Got a ton of shit to get done, and I've managed to spend the majority of the day (and the night) sat on my arse watching sports on my computer and posting drivel on here. Ah well, at least I've stayed off the drink.

Sweet feck, Anderson Silva is just impossibly good. Henderson is a tough, powerful bastard, and after their entrances I was edging towards him. Great first round from Henderson, but then Anderson's class kicked in. Can anyone south of light heavyweight even stand a chance? How would he fare if he moved up to light heavy?

Two great fighters and absolute class acts as people too. That was worth staying up for. Now I'm off for a quick wank and a long sleep.

No one has a chance against Spider other than Matt Lindland and he hates dana White, so I don't see that match ever happening.

As far as him moving up to LHW, he would probably be an upper tier fighter, but he thrives off his size advantage and striking ability. There are lots of fighters at 205 bigger than he can ever hope of being. His striking would be on par or better than most though, meaning he's always got a punchers chance. His BJJ is very good, but there are many very good BJJ practitioners at that weight (Shogun, Wandy, Machida, Thiago Silva, etc), whose BJJ is on par with if not better than his.

I agree with this statement. He and Lesnar may as well strap on singlets and have a wrestling match....

Great name by the way Pat....

Cheers mate. Was just digging around another site and Silva apparently walks around at 200lbs+ between fights and is 6'2ish. That being the case, it wouldn't surprise me if he moves up pretty soon.

Anderson vs Rampage would be insane. Anderson's size and strength deficit would be at its most pronounced, but Rampage has had trouble with strikers such as Wanderlei and ShoGun Rua. He has an absolutely insane chin though. Just watched Rampage vs Shogun Rua and I've never seen anyone take such a beating and remain conscious.

I don't believe the hype on Rampage.

They fed him an OK fighter in Eastman that he didn't look great beating.

Chuck is/was/always will be highly overrated. He was the right guy at the right time for a division that was heavy with ground fighters/wrestlers that couldn't strike their way out of a wet paper bag. Chuck with decent take down defense and liberal fence grabbing (Chuck v Randy III) and he is a handful. Put him against a decent striker and he gets schooled, 'Page, Jardine.

Hendo. My feelings on Hendo are basically he is a tough guy and that is about it. He has really one marquee win in his career that I can think of. That was over Wandy and that was after Wandy Crocop II. Wandy has not been the same guy since that fight.

I think Rampage is a good champion. However I think there are a couple guys out there who can and probably will beat him.

Top of the list in my opinion is Machida.

Machida so far has shown no holes in his game. He is the most elusive striker at LHW. He has great take down defense and he has a great ground game. He is also very strong physically.

I agree with a lot of that. Rampage was the victim of two of the most brutal KOs in the history of MMA (See Wandy v Page I & II). Rampage has holes, but the US fans haven't seen them unless they watched Pride.

Chuck has always been overrated. Wandy is the only striker Chuck has beaten since he decisioned Belfort years ago. And in both cases his reach was the main catalyst for those victories.

Hendo has a great chin, never been KO'd and is a great wrestler, but he has never been that great an all-around MMAer. Plus, his marquee victory was against a Wandy that got out of the hospital a day prior to the fight due to a severe case of Strep throat that had prevented him from eating and training for a week. He got out just in time to take part in the weigh-ins.

Machida seems to be the real deal, but he'll have the chance to prove any of his remaining doubters wrong when he fights Tito at UFC 85.

Ya, unfortunately the UFC is rarely interested in making good fights. They are interested in bombarding us with 45 minutes of commercials in a 2 hour broadcast and not showing people like Arlovski because he is in contract limbo.

I'm personally pretty fed up with the gestapo tactics of the UFC and I hope that one of the up coming MMA organizations can get their shit together and start to lure names away from the UFC.

The UFC HW division is already pretty much a joke. With their business model what are they going to do with Silva, he's already cleaned that division out. I like Okami but really, he has about as much a shot at beating Silva as Serra did with GSP. It's possible but HIGHLY unlikely.

The Light HW division is a joke too. A bunch of over hyped guys.

Chuck? Right guy at the right time. A decent wrestler/striker, he feasted on the wrestlers/JJ guys that either didn't have good enough take downs, or had no take downs.

Jardine? Best one trick pony in MMA. He has a leg kick and that is it. Ok he might be one of the first people to prove that just a leg kick can win fights but FFS my 90 year old grand pa that weighs 90 pounds has more athleticism than that Quasimodo looking mother fecker.

Evans? Please someone knock this idiot out because I literally have to go slam my face into a wall when he fights. I hate lay and pray, you hate lay and pray. We all hate lay and pray.

Forrest? Likable guy, improving all the time. Does he deserve a title shot? feck no. He gets it because Shogun was built up to walk in and take the title, when he lost Forrest had to take his title shot. This is all Page Ranking for Zuffa, Forrest is one of the faces of the UFC.

Rampage? Again Rampage is being hyped up as this monster. The guy isn't a monster. He is a slightly more technical striker than Chuck. Technical strikers > Chuck. Probably 3 or 4 guys in the division right now that could beat Rampage. Wouldn't shock me to see Forrest do it via a repeat of the Jorge Riviera fight? Was it Jorge he decisioned?

Shogun? Sloppy striker. Not sure what to make of him in the UFC. Clearly came into the Forrest fight without a gas tank. How much of this was chemical in nature and how much of it was a result of his knee injury? Very interested to see his next fight.

The only compelling divisions in the UFC imho right now are LW and WW.

Yeah, not sure why Joe Silva (UFC's matchmaker) threw him in with the only type of fighter (BJJ) that could really cause him a whole lot of problems. But with more training and a few fights against some cans that the UFC will now inevitably throw him, he'll be back in with the top guys by the end of 09.

Definitely. He will end up as champion some day.

Did any of you see the Frank Shamrock-Cung Le fight? Looked like a good one. I only saw the last minute or so but I'll probably have a gander at the whole thing some time soon.

Yeah, it was a good fight. Bad idea for Shamrock to stand with Le, but he said before the fight he was going to do it and he did. If he would have put Le on his back it would have been a much different fight, but I'm glad Le won because Frank is a conceited prick.

I think GSP will beat Serra this time? But if anyone can beat GSP, Serra is made to do it.

I'd love to see GSP v Pariysan but Karo was very disappointing against Thiago Alves. That loss will be a serious hit on his morale.

Not sure about any streams. I always buy the PPVs so I've never checked into them. If anyone could find a stream for it, it would be Hectic, so I would ask him.

yeah i normally get the ppv on my telly but i'll be away for the next one... i will however have a laptop and broadband...

getting closer!

who else is on the card?

travis lutter and rich franklin. Hopefully rich can win this and kick start his career once again. Other ones are bisping v. mccarthy and quarry v. starnes. I haven't been watching ufc for long just started getting into it a year or so ago so I have no idea who those guys except for bisping, my boy rich and travis lutter.

new season of ultimate fighter started couple of weeks ago.
looks like it'll be good so far.... i like how they had to fight their way into the house this time.
that guy freaking out after being knocked out was a bit fecked up.
