Yeah, how many opportunities did Lesnar have to take Herring's back & didn't take them? Noboby is going to beat Lesnar in a wrestling match, his body is too wide - it must have felt like two people were on top of Herring.

Just watching the GSP fight, looks different class compared to Fitch.

GSP was fantastic. On top of being extremely well rounded he's just impossibly strong - he was tossing Fitch around like a rag doll at times.

I'm glad I managed to get up in time for this first fight, McDonald giving a masterclass in how to escape submission, looks like he's still going to get beat though.

That was a quality fight. Maia looked class. His BJJ is quality.

Brilliant performance by Lesnar, a one sided masterclass, Heath Herring got put on his arse after 15 seconds & his eye instantly closed - the crazy horse was a broken man. All three judges gave 30-26 Lesnar.

As long as Lesnar stays away from anyone with Jiu-Jitsu skills he could have a good career, needs to learn to stop playing to the crowd though - looked a bit stupid at the end trying to ride the crazy horse like sea-biscuit.

I think Lesner was magnificent. However I was a bit disappointed that he couldn't finish him off.

He kind of annoyed me at the end the way he acted. It was the total opposite of the class he showed when Mir made him tap.

Lesner will improve each time he faces a top bjj man. I think though due to his immense size, speed and strength that only the elite bjj men such as Mir or Nogeira will be able to beat him.

I'd love to see Couture v Lesner. It'd be interesting to see him fight another ground & pount "specialist".

Pound for pound I think GSP and Anderson Silva are by far and away the best fighters in the UFC.

GSP was quality tonight but I was a little disappointed, as I was with Lesnar, that he couldn't close out the fight.

GSP v BJ will be a great fight. It's bound to happen.

That right hand was fecking crazy - dropped Herring like a sack of shite. Credit to Herring for making it to the final bell. Those knees to the body were brutal. Its hard to believe that was only Lesnar's third MMA fight. He's still got alot of scope to improve his ju-jitsu.

The frightening thing is with Lesnar is that he has so much to improve on. He is still a very inexperienced fighter and there is so much room for improvement. At 31 he is still relatively young for a heavyweight. He could dominate the division for years to come once he gets some more experience.

agreed. I have never liked seeing people showboat after matches.

Lesnar had Herring's back the whole fight and couldn't do anything with it.

GSP was very impressive.

Lesnar was good and wrestled brilliantly but when he comes up against someone with good BJJ he is going to find it tough, ander8on is right he had his back so many times and I was crying out of a rear naked choke but it was never even close he never passed the guard properly for a good ground and pound either, he has a shit load to learn and I dare say if he hadnt of dropped hearing with the right the result could have been different.

His post match interview was a joke, ortiz like in the lack of class and repect shown

What's the story with Cro Cop? Didn't he sign a two year 6 fight contract with the UFC? I heard he was fighting in some new promotion. Is he still obligated to fight in the UFC?

Sorry, i don't watch it all the time, is there somebody called the axeman/hunter or something? I thought it was Anderson Silva, but no.

I saw one of his highlight reels and wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Cheers.

The Axeman? Wanderlei Silva is nicknamed the Axe Murderer. It is probably him you are thinking of. He is one of the best around.

Anderson Silva's nickname is Spider.

Yeah, was wondering the same thing? I've not seen anything of Crop, but I heard about him signing and he was coming with a big reputation.

Loads of news over the past week

Lesnar is meant to have agreed to fight Cheick Congo, Chuck Liddell wants a title fight if he beats Evans, if he doesn't win has hinted he may quit and Kenny Florian is set to fight Joe Stevenson in January.

I'd love to see Chuck against Forrest. It could be a great fight.

Lesner and Congo will be interesting as Lesner won't really have the physical dominance that he has on practically every other fighter. I reckon it'd be a boring matchup though.

Florian and Stevenson would be quality.

What do you make of the comments by Anderson Silva's manager about a potential fight with Chuck?

“At the end of the day, this is a business, and [the UFC] needs to sell fights. They need to sell a lot of pay-per-views, and they need to sell tickets. So, we want to be involved with those types of fights. We’re not looking past Patrick Cote, but I think we’ll take one step at a time and see what happens. But yeah, if a Chuck Liddell fight came up, we’d take it. Whoever the UFC wants to put in front of us, he wants to fight the best, and whoever that may be at the time, that’s who he wants to fight.”

I think Anderson Silva, whilst although very humble, recognizes that he is probably the best pound for pound MMA fighter in the world. He is far better than any of the other middleweights. He obviously wants to push himself and further himself and what better way than to beat the most popular MMA fighter of all time.

I'd love to see it happen. If Anderson can survive pushing up in weight and be just as good, I think he could take Chuck easy to be honest.

CroCop signed with Dream. It's the new Japanese start up (basically Pride 2). The UFC released him after the 2 losses so it wouldn't have to pay his enormous contract.

Kimbo against Ken Shamrock. Shamrock is extremely chinny now but if it ever gets to the ground he could hurt Kimbo. I hope he does and we can forget this freak show.

That is fairly ridiculous from the UFC though. Although he had two bad losses against Gonzaga and Kongo, he is still a magnificent striker. Maybe he just needed time to adapt to the UFC.

The last time Shammy fought, he got one -punched by a british guy named Buzz Berry. It was pretty embarrassing. I would say he has almost no chance. Ken needs to retire before someone retires him permanently.

The transition to the cage is apparently a big transition for a fighter to make. Plus, he broke his rib in the first 2 minutes of Round 1 against Kongo and couldn't do much after that. If you watch the fight, you can see when Kongo breaks it. he throws a great body kick that catched CC flush and he grimaces pretty bad. After that he had nothing for Kongo.

Looks like Couture will be fighting Lesnar November 15th. Should be a damn good fight:
http://mma.fanhouse.com/2008/09/02/dana-white-makes-it-official-randy-couture-is-back-in-ufc-will/

Randy Couture is back in the UFC.

On a conference call today, UFC President Dana White announced that Couture will return to the organization that he spurned last year, and the UFC will welcome one of its best and most popular fighters back into the Octagon. White referred to Couture as "the heavyweight champion of the UFC," and he confirmed that Couture will defend his title against Brock Lesnar in a five-round title fight on November 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Couture announced his resignation from UFC last year and expressed frustration at the time at both his compensation and the UFC's failure to sign Fedor Emelianenko, the sport's top heavyweight and the opponent who would give Couture the greatest challenge of his career. As recently as March, Couture was saying he'd fight Fedor this fall and not in the UFC, but things have changed.

"He's made it very clear how bad he wants to fight Fedor, and we're going to do everything in our power to make a Fedor fight happen, but we're not going to mess with anyone's contract. He's under contract now with another promotion," White said. "If he becomes available, we would love to make the Fedor fight."

For now, Couture will fight Lesnar in one of the biggest fights in UFC history.

Weird one that Couture against Lesnar.

Couture is more stand and bang dirty boxer, cant see Lesnar wanting to stay on his feet too long against him - on the other hand I cant see Couture wanting a wrestle with the wide man - my prediction is a win for Randy, this will be a test for Lesnar to see if he can take being punched in the face repeatedly.

I'm going to miss this weekend's UFC - friend of mine is boxing on the Khan card at the MEN.

I'm pretty pissed off that the main event for this weekend is what should have been the main event at the 02 a few months back which I went to. I have tickets for the Birmingham event in October - why couldn't they have scheduled Chuck v Evans for October (1 UFC later) - give something back to the British fans who paid a fortune to see Chuck & are paying a fortune again to see Bisping headline!!!

totally agree with you... only reason im paying to go is to see dan hardy as i know him... but the rest of the bill is pretty lame... especially compared to the last onw with gsp, huerta and lesner!...
