Cosmopolis - It should have been named 'Monotonous'. Don't waste your time on this and watch the glorious Holy Motors instead.
Agree with your take on Cosmopolis, but don't listen to R. N7, Holy Motors is awful.

There is Something About Mary is one of my favorite comedy films and Godfather 2 is another favorite of mine. But you can't compare them directly.

Photography on Cosmopolis is fecking great though. Peter Suschitsky, who did Empire Strikes Back, some of the old Peter Watkins and Ken Russell films, lots of the Cronenbergs including eXistenZ and Naked Lunch. Bit of a genius.
Haven't seen Lincoln yet. But has there ever been a film about slavery/segregation where the heart of the story isn't some noble white guy/gal who fights to free the dusky bondsman? Isn't it about time there was one with a black hero played by a black actor? Come on Spike Lee, sort it out.

It's an awful, awful film though Plizzle. Or at least I thought so. It's impossible to get into or care about. And don't tell me that was the whole point of it or I will literally have to kill you.

McQueen's interesting at any rate. I LOVED 'Bear'... shut up Mockney... but thought the hunger strike one was shite.

I enjoyed Hunger but I was a bit underwhelmed by Shame.
The Frozen
A very low budget horror, only has a cast of 3.
A young couple have a snowmobile accident and are left stranded, when the boyfriend disappearers, she is then stalked by a strange hunter in the snow covered woods.
It is not the best film you will ever see, but it is no means the worst you will see either, I found it very entertaining.

I was being voluntarily extreme and pithy, but yeah I hated it. For more or less the same reasons as Cosmopolis.
Looking very much forward to that one too, I loved McQueen's Hunger and Shame (also because I think Fassbender's an amazing actor), haven't seen any of his shorts but can't wait for Twelve years a slave to be released.
The Sound of My Voice (2012) - 4
It's got elements of Another Earth (Brit Marling starring and co-writing, pseudo sci-fi) and The Man From Earth (largely takes place in one room with a small group of eager listeners/believers/disbelievers) but it's much worse than both. It's a psuedo-intellectual thriller not done very well. Worse still was the absurd handshake (among many other absurd moments in the film):
I'm not sure why I even watched it all. Worse than the movie was this "interview" I came across with the co-star/writer and some weirdo.
Just watched this now. I think your review sums it up pretty well. I also felt half way through the movie that I should just stop watching it. The ending in a way cheapened Another earth for me as well, which while not a ground breaking sci-fi movie, was a well rounded one at least with better depiction of human emotions at play.
Amour - It's 2 AM in the morning here and this is quite a heavy movie to take in. Damn.
Absolutely brilliant film, just flawlessly acted and directed. The Tarkovskian touches were the icing on the cake for me. Haneke must have had Tarkovsky in mind when he made it.
I'm considering watching the Lord of the Rings again over Christmas. Not sure if I can justify 9 whole hours though.
I've started re-watching them now that I've seen the Hobbit. First ever re-watch of them and I've got on Fellowship at the moment. Now that I've seen the whole thing I can appreciate this a lot more and remember it as better than I first thought it was.

Yet another view of the apocalypse by the SyFy channel, this one was better than there normal rubbish, but not by a great deal.
The story is a bit bonkers, the Mayans foretold the end of the world by the Christmas song ,the 12 days of Christmas and this girl had to find 5 rings to stop it, there is the obligatory religious nut that tries to stop her finding the rings.
The CGI was better than most SyFy films.
It is not a film that many will enjoy, but I did.

Midnight Run - I was a bit disappointed with this, my dad raves about it constantly but I thought it was a bit too pedestrian and had too much cheesy 80's music (the opening minutes were so unbearable that I almost turned it off). De Niro delivered the goods as you'd expect him to do in a role like that but I didn't think his buddy's banter was up to scratch.
It's on tomorrow at 21:00. I'm recording it!

I saw this in the summer. Really enjoyed it myself. I know what you mean, the way people love it you expect it to be a masterpiece. It's gentler than that.
At the heart of it though is a lovely script and some terrific acting. I love the way their relationship develops, without ever (well, until right at the end) becoming the cheesy buddy story you think it's about to.
Watched Once upon a time in Anatolia and have been pondering about it for last 40 mins or so.... Not sure what to make of it as of now. Would love to discuss it more here with those who have seen it some time soon!
My dad ranks it as his second favourite film of all-time, after MASH.
It's definitely a film that evokes much discussion.
its an oldie but watched Citizen X last night starring Stephen Rea & Donald Sutherland, true story based on the infamous Russian serial killer who remained at large for years due mainly to bureacratic incompetence on behalh of the then backward Soviet regime. Great movie.
