Basically saying it's not really any different from the show which it what I said. You talk about it being misogynistic but the whole show is pretty much a satire on how shallow hollywood is etc. is. It's pretty obvious, I didn't really think that needed pointing out. Or maybe you didn't get that and are taking it at face value...
 
Yeah I said that obviously but time has passed and I've don't some more reflection on it. 6/10 now.

Edit: I was going to go with 6.5 in the post above but I don't like .5 numbers :lol:
 
Mildly intrigued to catch a bit of Entourage just to see how shite it is now. I didn't last long with the TV show, less than 5 minutes. Kermode's review was entertaining but he's playing to the crowd too much these days, imo.

Thanks for that. I had no idea what plot points they were going on about and I'm at my parents for the weekend with nothing to do, so I re watched it this afternoon. It's so incredibly stupid and yet very good looking. A well polished turd.

But so stupid. Also, it casted some strange choices of lookalikes, such as Tom Hardy lite and the lovechild of Gary Neville and Colin Farrell.
 
Sound of My Voice - A hollow Man from Earth. For this to work you really need there to be either a consequence for her being from the future or create intrigue about whether she is telling the truth or not, this does neither, added to that there was no suspense in the arc of the two documentarians and when they finally throw a bit of danger into it in the final act I found I didn't really care. Oh and the handshake thing was annoying.

Apparently Kermode reviewed Human Centipede yesterday. Can imagine some of the scenes would be difficult to describe pre-watershed.

So I saw this yesterday and overall I enjoyed it. I agree with you that the Dano parts were much stronger than the Cusack ones, but overall I was glad it was really a story about Brian Wilson and not the Beach Boys, so not their rise to fame, their first albums, etc., but I'd say it was quite a bold choice. It didn't really showcase their 'biggest hits' as a traditional biopic would, and even when one of their famous songs was shown, they focused more on the creative process and on Wilson's inspirations, which was interesting. Dano is really an excellent actor, don't think I've seen him be disappointing in anything I've seen with him, and I can understand why Cusack would maybe not work for everyone, but I quite like him and though at times his era was a bit more caricatural in the 'this is madness on screen' aspect, it still worked overall for me, though it wasn't half as interesting as the Dano parts.

Yeah, enjoyable and interesting film, not going to revolutionize cinema or anything but 2 hours well spent. And it was a fresh take on the biopic genre which is very formulaic, at least in its construction - having these two eras of the character overlapse was much better than doing it chronologically. And it was quite well shot I found.

Boring mess of a film. The characters had zero depth, the overall plot was plain dumb and it was just a very difficult watch. Some action scenes looked ok but my jaw hurts from all the yawning 2/10
 
Age of Kill

A black ops sniper is blackmailed by a psychotic international terrorist into killing 6 unrelated people in 6 hours... but there is more to the victims than meets the eye.
Was not expecting much from this.
But I was pleasantly surprised by it, it was far better than I expected.
Yeah some of the acting was dreadful, Donna Air being one of them but thankfull she was not in that much.
Martin Kemp was excellent has the sniper.
The person behind it all was pretty easy to guess at, but a very solid film and worth watching.

:lol:Donna Air?! That has petrol station bargain bin written all over that.
 
Mean Streets - Holds up well, especially when viewed alongside Taxi Driver. I prefer these old Scorsese films, less fat, less formula. I've never really got behind Keitel but DeNiro gives a great performance. Ending never did it for me, still doesn't.

Oh and Amy Robinson :drool:
 
Big Driver.

A famous mystery writer sets out for revenge after a brutal attack.
Adaptation from a Steven King book, nothing you have not seen before, women is brutally raped and she takes her own revenge on him and his family.
Maria Bello gave an okay performance playing the leading role of the raped woman. The music and sound effects were a bit mediocre.
Not the best or the worse adaptation of a Stephen King book.

The Duchess

A film set in the Georgian period. I was expecting a glitzy but shallow frock-fest; surprisingly, The Duchess was as memorable and as subtle as a really fine novel. Understated, excellent performances from Ralph Fiennes, Hayley Atwell and Keira Knightley.

Re-animator is amazing. A re-animated head giving head to a young woman! I've got the special edition DVD and the cast commentary is pretty funny. Night of the Creeps is another cracking one from the same era.
 
Jurassic World was pretty shit tbh. A mediocre monster flick. It had so much potential and they squandered it! Cool to see Nilsson make a cameo as the Gyrosphere operator though.

:lol:I actually ended up watching it all again, which explains why I am so knackered today. Had forgotten that scene- even more depraved in that it's the lass's lobotomised dad who captures her and rips her clothes off for the headless guy.
 
Song of the Sea: If this is playing anywhere near you, 100% check it out. Beautiful animation and a story to play on the heartstrings of kids and grown ups alike. Take your kids.
