Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Saw Chappie. Started well then faded. Not worth seeing unless you're a big sci-fi fan, and then still I'd wait for a DVD release. Hugh Jackman, for whatever reason, portrayed a cartoon character in the movie. And I found that brilliant. Although I'm unsure it was intentional.

It Follows - Creepy...Really feckin' creepy... One of the better horror films I've seen in an age. Made in the main by a very simple, pretty terrifying (and if it existed, would be feckin' horrible) "evil" concept and some quite sharp directing that plays it as well as you could expect.

Oh, and you know what really makes it work?
The fact that it walks. It doesn't jog, run, sprint... nope, it just walks... walking is feckin' creepy

Heard good things. Always distrust horror films with great critical reception though.

Clown

A better than average horror, A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize the suit is part of an evil curse that turns its wearer into a killer.
I was not expecting much , but was pleasantly shocked, it was pretty decent , the transformation from dad to demon was done well.
The gore level in this movie is extremely high. Every kill is based upon a trick that a clown but all with the intention of making your skin crawl. It won't be to every one's taste, as limbs are literally ripped from bodies, heads kicked of.

Left Behind

OMG this film sucks big time, dreadful acting , dreadful writing just dreadful everything.
I love Nic Cage but this is the worst, some of his other bad film I do like,
Why is shit like this even made, Cassi Thompson was the only good part of it, not for her acting , no that sucks, she looks good.

1/10 the one is for Cassi .

Neverlake
It's such a shame that this films doesn't deliver because it had an interesting premise that I don't remember seeing in other horror films but it just lacked finesse. The characters were nearly developed, the story was nearly well rounded, the acting and dialogue was nearly good. It was such a missed opportunity 4/10

A Most Violent Year - Thought this was really good. Oscar Isaacs was also really good in the lead role and Jess Chastain who is a favourite of mine right now put in a solid performance. The story was gripping with a gritty feel and the film looked really good visually. 8.5/10

Unbroken -
Good watch and a pretty inspirational story but I just didn't think it was anything special. O'Connell deserves credit for his performance which was good. 6.5/10

It Follows is excellent.

Did you watch Babadook?
Yes and thought it was great, very creative on a tight budget.

I really enjoyed this but thought Chastain was miscast. She couldn't pull off tough gangster moll.

Behold it, in all its glory.

But on a serious note, I couldn't get behind Chastain. Thought she did a good hard ass in Zero Dark Thirty but not here. When she says to David Oyelowo "this has been very disrespectful" or whatever I nearly laughed out loud.

I think she's a terrific actress and I'm a little bit in love with her, and I don't think there was actually much wrong for her performance, I just thought she was probably miscast for that part.

And any part in which she doesn't yell Eurëka is a total waste.

Watched Kingsman and I really loved it. Lots of action and humor. And the princess bits at the end were nice. :D

Kingsman is absolutely brilliant. Not enough people here have watched it it seems.

Chappie

Started off really promisingly, then went full on retard towards the end. Die Antwoord were laughably horrible as actors and even Hugh Jackman was a bit naff. Really wanted to like this too since I loved District 9.
