Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Anyone know if It Follows is available online yet?

Don't usually do it, but I think I missed the UK cinema release.

I thought Babaook was scarier....saw It Follows last night...while its a good horror film, I didnt find myself jumping or shielding my eyes for any particular scenes lol.

It Follows or Bababook.

Which one is considered scarier?
I'd hope It Follows because Babadook was a huge let down.

Faces In The Crowd
Mila Jovovich is attacked by a serial killer and now has face blindness so can't recognize anyone and is trying to help solve the case as she is the only victim that survives the attack. Bloody awful boring pile of waste. Couldn't even sit through the whole film, and that doesn't happen to me often 1/10

The Dead
An american military engineer and an african soldier trek through Africa in the midst of a zombie apocalypse to find the soldiers son and an airport so the engineer can call for help. VERY slow paced film and a lot of padding to fill in the 90 minutes on a limited budget. The director also clearly loved showing low angle shots of shoes walking... The zombies were poorly acted and didn't look like zombies most of the time, instead they looked like Chris Brown from that Nicki Minaj music video 'Only'. The story was decent but just too slow, however, if you want to see a man look badass wearing a burka, then stick around for the ending  4/10

Over The Garden Wall
An animated mini-series about two brothers who get lost in the woods and try to find their way home. Watched the premiere of this sitting next to Elijah Wood, who voices the protagonist and had a smoke with him, which was cool! The series itself was amazing. Very charming, well animated, laugh-out-loud moments galore but was a bit too scary for the intended audience, but for me, that added to it's overall appeal. Well worth a watch 9/10

Insurgent
The second Divergent movie. I took five teenage girls to see this. Everyone enjoyed it, but the one girl who had read the book was mortally offended by the liberties taken with the story. I didn't mind. I think they did a decent job. although they did make a lot of changes to bring it in under two hours. Basically it's for teenage girls or adults of either gender who have never really grown up.

Really ? kinda of put me off watching it now.

Is it better than the first one at the very least? That was a bloomin' awful film.

If that puts you off, then you're probably best avoiding. It is what it is. A decent movie for people who read the books and bought into the characters but not something that's likely to make new converts among the more "mature".

Quite shamelessly, I enjoyed the first one but then - despite knowing better - I am one of the "immature" who did enjoy the books. In my very strange world, Tris > Katniss.

The Theory Of Everything - perfectly good misty biopic. Redmane is the spitting image at ti....wait...is...is that....Frank Le Boef??!

Dr Strangelove

Pretty great satire film. Manages to deal with what I'd have imagined to be a controversial subject at the time while making it incredibly funny and ironic in the process, with some great lines. Felt it took a while to get going as well, but the dialogue as they tried to come up with plans etc for how to deal with the problem was excellent. Really enjoyed the General character and his complete lack of self-awareness. Never realised till afterwards that 3 of the main characters were played by the one actor as well.

8.5/10

Get Hard - I liked it. Watched a lot of films like this when I was a kid. Blue Streak, Nothing to Lose, Rush Hour etc. Standard formula, easy to get right. Probably gets boring if you watch consecutively but I haven't watched a film like this in a while. I find Will Farrell funny too so another plus.

7.5/10

I don't even think The Babadook is meant to be scary, at least not in a conventional horror-film way. The fear is derived from the witnessing the strains of single parenthood and having a really annoying kid.

Con Air
Great cast. Ridiculous action. Amazing soundtrack. Unbeatable one-liners. Nic Cage. Con Air is the greatest film ever made. Ever. 10/10

The Judge
Pretty decent movie. Great acting by RDJ and Robert Duvall. A little too Hollywood-ish at times, but not to the point it's unbearable. 7.5/10

Trying to rank them would be just too hard. I think I like Face/Off the less, but Con Air and The Rock are so so good.
