Fallen Muppet. Lest we never forget
Booked in for an unlimited preview of The Martian next Sunday. Cannot wait
What the feck happens to the co-pilot in the helicopter? Seriously, he just vanishes?
The Warriors
Really bizarre yet fun cult gangster film. Like someone decided to take acid and then make a mash of West Side Story and a GTA game.

Perfect's the right word, you can't improve Jaws.Jaws

One of the most perfect movies ever made. It's sad that Hollywood doesn't make films like this anymore.

Rogue
Just seen this fairly unknown Australian horror film on BBC 1 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Basically what happens is a group of tourists get stuck on an island with a hungry crocodile in it's waters. The plot is simple, but makes for a very good and tense film.
The cinematography is great, this is probably as good an advert for the Australian outback (if you forget about the killer croc) that you could possibly have, the shots are absolutely beautiful. The directing is brilliant, you can see that this was inspired by Jaws and as Jaws is a very good film, it's good that it is. The croc is treated the same as the shark in jaws and done just as well as Spielberg. The acting is also great, you really believe in the characters and emphasize with their predicament. You can really feel the tension in their performances.
Rogue doesn't scare me, but that doesn't mean it's a bad horror film, it's extremely tense all the way and you are on the edge of you're seat. It's a film you've probably never heard of, I hadn't, but if you have the chance you should defiantly give it a try.

I re-watched this last night and I found my self thinking, why does this film get so much stick? I thought it was brilliant.
The cinematography is absolutely beautiful, It would be great to experience Pandora for like a minute (I don't like big animals that can kill me). The overall concept of the film is original and you don't see many films like it. It's a very enjoyable film that works because it immerses you in this world, and takes you on an adventure where you feel emotional because of what the humans are trying to do, and the acting too helps.
Although some of the dialogue isn't great and then end denouement goes on for a bit too long I still think it's great.

The first thing you're probably wondering is why any man worth his testicles would want to watch this massive gayfest of a film for any reason other than that his missus chose the movie. The answer is that it appeared in the Guardian's list of the greatest British films ever made so I decided to give it a chance.
What a mistake that was. Two hours of aneurysm inducing wankery about love and relationships with not one iota of wit or irony to make it tolerable. There's literally not a single funny piece of dialogue in the entire movie.
But the biggest of this film's many problems was that the main female love interest, the focal point of the film for feck's sake, was really rather dull and unremarkable. The fact that Andie McDowell was the actress involved was a major reason for this, but the writing certainly didn't help. Throw in Hugh Grant in rent-a-fop mode and a cast of characters whom, presumably, were supposed to be endearing and eccentric, but were actually just a bit annoying, and you have all the ingredients for a two hour cinematic experience in which your only motivation to continue is to see if it eventually gets any better.

Come on now, it is a sci-fi movie based on a sci-fi book. It wasn't supposed to be scientifically accurate. Well, for most part it wasn't supposed to be so. When it comes to HAL, I think that Kubrick and Clarke (writer of the book) had a conversation with Marven Minsky (back then, the leading researcher in AI) about that part. I think that HAL part are some of the best pieces that have been ever done in cinematography. Not only slow but the most pretentious bollocks ever put on celluloid. And half the themes it supposedly examines it either does in a 6th form mystic nonsense way (existentialism) or gets horribly wrong (the human evolution AI and human evolution themes). The only thing it got a bit right was some of the space travel stuff.
