I've created this new thread as the previous one is now locked.

The win yesterday has changed our mediocre start to the season into something a little better and moved us up into 5th for the time being. It was also our 3rd league win in row, so perhaps a sign that, after a second successive summer of massive squad changes, things are starting to gel.

Our back four options have improved, mainly due the Alderweireld arriving to form what looks like a good partnership with Vertonghen. And Dier has been successfully switched into the DM role. These two changes have meant we're shipping many fewer goals: so far at least Spurs have conceded the joint fewest league goals (5).

Dele Alli has joined the midfield ranks and hit the ground running, whilst Son and Clinton N'jie look like they'll provide some extra pace and energy for our attacking options. Even Lamela is now, at last, starting to show more of the attributes that brought him to Spurs in the first place.

What's especially encouraging to me is the squad's young average age, not least because it provides the chance for a large group of players to stay and develop together for hopefully a long period. That youthful factor was epitomised by yesterday's game against Man. City, where a CM pairing of Dier and Alli - average age 20 - more than held their own.

All in all, and especially if Kane's goal yesterday today kick-starts his goal-scoring form again, Spurs could be in for a good season in the league. Time will tell, but so far things are looking up.

Son has been lively so far, might become a good player for you guys in the long-run. 3 league wins in a row is promising but you are Spurs so you're bound to feck up big time at some moment though.

Really like the look of Alli, very talented kid.

Was very surprised by lamela yesterday, put himself about physically, gave the defenders no time on the ball, worked his ass off and did well going forwards too, very impressive. Interesting to see whether it's a one off or he continues in the same vein.

Son has looked good so far, you got some good movement there with Kane, Son, Eriksen all interchanging positions. You got a few youngsters as well and Alli (who dominated vs us for MK dons) has started well as well. But Tottenham are Tottenham, they will do the same thing they always do and finish 5/6th

In before the 'Glaston starts a thread the day after a 4-1 win, how 'covenient'!'

Do you think you can get top 4? Early days yet but 4 points ahead of Chelsea now.

Also, how about a decent crack at the Europa League this year? Pretty tough group for you, but now you're out of the League Cup there'll be no other focuses than the EL and the league before Christmas, and I guess after that depending on how the league is going you can pick and choose your main targets? Could be a springboard for Son too.

Going off MOTD last night, do the caf see Kane as a 9 or 10?

What are your expectations? Can't see this squad finishing any higher than 6th personally. You happy with that?

Kane is most definitely a #9.

Kane is very creative for a pure #9. I also back them to finish above Liverpool again.

It's fair to say that Pochettino makes Spurs that little bit more likeable. He's a good coach and it's quite admirable what he's doing with the players he's got and the average age of them.

Their midfield looks like it should be a real position of weakness but it manages to hold its own in spite of a lack of quality and experience.

He played a few games behind the striker last autumn and did pretty well, to be fair.

If Sturridge breaks down then maybe. No chance if not though.

I think a Moutinho could really transform their CM. Weren't they heavily linked to him a while ago?

Well, I think we have a better squad than last season, when we finished 5th. One the other hand, partly due to all the extra TV money, the league looks to be more competitive this time around, with more mid-table and lower clubs capable of getting surprising results more often. All in all I'd expect Spurs to finish 5th again, but top 4 is possible, as is 6th or 7th.

They sort of remind me of United at the moment, quite well organized and compact - but perhaps haven't got the wide positions sorted/working properly yet. They could do with Lamela or someone like him to start delivering on a consistent basis. I've got no doubt in Kane at all, he's quality.

They still lack a bit of creativity imo. Eriksen tends to go missing for long periods in games and does nowhere enough to in a creative sense. Kane is the man for Spurs both from a creative and scoring perspective. Looks a class act.

Alli looks a good talent but quite rough and I expect Mason will start most of the games in that role (?). A good player to liven things of the bench at any rate. Lamela is the one that surprised me yesterday. If he can keep that sort of form up for the season, Spurs should do really well.

And is Davies the first choice LB now?

Really don't see that squad being capable of finishing above last season's top 4. It's just not good enough over the course of the season. Add to that, as you mentioned, others around you have gotten stronger and that's why I think 6th.

Surely the odds at this point have to be in favour of Sturridge getting injured again instead of staying fit season-long?

Probably. But then who knows? He might not.

I find that they have a few games each year where they look brilliant and it gets everyone excited but the rest of the season is a huge grind where they play really boring football but still win. Pochettino does seem to be changing that a little though. I'm still not convinced by Dier or Mason but Alli looks like a great talent.

Yeah, I like the manager, he's a good guy and he has a certain 'philosophy' which we can see coming slowly into Spurs' game.

It takes time, and Levy should stick with him.

Now that we have the best number 9 in England, Kane is trying to still get his move to united by proving that he can play #10

They will finish 5th and then better clubs will cheery pick the decent players, rinse and repeat

Would this thread have been created had Spurs not won yesterday? Honest question.

I made a similar 'taking stock' post in the old Spurs thread a few days ago, before the match yesterday, but was advised to create to a new thread and the old thread was locked.

Of course he would, Glaston's favourite activity is fighting with United fans.

Do we really need this (irrelevantly) asked multiple times though?

Usually it's various Caftards - a few in particular - who constantly seek to personalise threads in which I've posted and so try and pick fights with me ... just as you're doing now.

If you want to comment, how about discussing the topic (Spurs) in question?

I actually agree with you as I thought my second sentence made clear.

As for the topic, Spurs seemed to be suffering from a similar problem to us up until recently where they were relatively steady at the back but suffered from a lack of attacking options if their main outlet was misfiring. United seem to be clicking up front with the introduction of Martial, can you see Spurs kicking on and improving their goals per game or was City just a blip?

I'm not sure when Mason is due back from being injured, but if it's a few more games, and if Alii continues to impress in that time, then Mason might well struggle to displace Alli.

The Davies v. Rose question is strange one. Rose has actually played well when he's been picked, yet recently Poch seems to prefer Davies, who has done quite well to be fair. But this might (?) be because Rose is not yet 100% fit. Personally I think Rose is the better LB, if only because he offers more as an attacking wingback

Very good result for them yesterday, good performance as well. I struggle to see Spurs getting top 4, although with the standard of the top teams at the moment, they'll maybe be capable of a decent push for it.

I think Kane will potentially hit a decent run of form now he's off the mark. He'll struggle to match last seasons total, but I still think he'll have a relatively decent season.

I think we'll improve our goals per game ratio as Son and Kane develop more of an understanding, but a lot depends on Kane re-discovering his scoring boots beyond just yesterday. However, scoring 4 goals in a game will definitely be a blip. But the current 1.3 goals per game won't be good enough for top 4.

two offside goals. Kane was offside for his goal. they got lucky. Good for us though

Dier plays surprisingly well for a CB at DM...quite wall-like. Alli looks good but I predict him running out of steam in the next 4-5 games. Spurs could do with a quality midfielder, Benteleb doesn't convince me at all.

Pleased for Kane, the ball just wouldn't go in at all this season but he didn't seem to let that affect him, good work-rate and movement. I'm warming up to the idea that he'd be a good fit for us one day although as the "Rooney Replacement." Never seen him play as a #10 though, his attributes seem more suited for a #9.
