It doesn't matter how young, cohesive and talented you think they are. The table (where you're going to finish closer to 5th than 1st) and your abysmal cup performance doesn't lie.
True, the table doesn't lie. It says we're in 2nd place, which says we've been better than 18 other teams. Which means that those other 18 teams have rather more to think about in terms of talent and cohesiveness than do Spurs.
Show me a United supporter, fan, follower who thinks they will spend many years in the wilderness. Don't think there are many if any due to the nature of the modern game. Fact is United have many glory hunters as do all top, successful teams. I never knew any City fans until the last 4-5 years now they appear everywhere. Being old I prefer football the way it used to be but I fully agree people can do whatever they want. My point was simply in response to " I think this is the worst period in United history" .
I'm really concerned about Glaston's knowledge and expertise in maths and statistics. In the last couple of pages or so he's having a mare.
He raped them silly alright to have Spurs the most improved team in the last 6(or was it 7) years. I'm sure the trend points that they'll finish above you next year as well. You have to be able to do maths contortions if you're a spud. At least they've stopped prattling on about when the year ends in a 1 now.

And they very likely are thinking about it.
Whereas a complacent attitude like yours would ensure Spurs' foray into the top 4 is as transient as it has tended to be in the past.
After all, there's a fag paper of difference in terms of points between you and 5th/6th.
Easy come, easy go.
Troll much? The season is over, time for Spurs to crawl back into its little hole where all the other feeder clubs and wannabe never will be's live. That one chance Spurs had has passed them by and its back to reality and back to their menial armpit smelling part of footballs history they should go. Their time in the sunshine is over, back to the howling wind and torrential rain you miserable little worms. Such a short burst in the sun they werent there long enough to get even a mild case of sunburn.
nah dont really mean it, just being an arse
I think they will still be competitive next season but they might not get a chance at the league title like this again. I can't see the big boys faltering for the second season in a row. Normal order will be restored next season.
Sorry. Truth is I remember the days of Martin Chivers, Alan Gilzean and Martin Peters etc etc. Have enjoyed watching Spurs this season, good team to watch.Troll much?
Dammit... I've been bitten by the white text.
Well, we've kept all our best players since Bale was sold - and that's 3 years ago now. This next season will certainly make it 4 years - I'd call that a " decent period of time". And with Pochettino having just signed a new contract, I'd say the chances of carrying it onto a 5th year and beyond are rather good.
You say that Spurs haven't batted above their weight for more than the odd season, but this doesn't square with three top 4 finishes in the last 6 seasons whilst competing with 5 clubs that currently have significantly larger incomes, nor with finishing above Liverpool for 5 of the last 6 seasons.
I'd also say that since Pochettino has arrived we have made consistently good decisions - and there's no especial reason to suppose this will change from now on.
The answer to your question is obvious - any club will increase their chances of success, all else being equal, if they have more money to spend. But all else is not equal - the "else" covering a wide variety of things: the manager and coaching staff, youth development, squad average age, scouting network, transfer negotiation skills, training facilities etc etc etc.
Lol. The team in 6th would need to 12 points to over-take us, even if there were enough games left, which there aren't. The team in 5th (United) would need 11 points.
Since when does 12 points equate to a "fag paper of difference"? The answer is: only in your fevered imagination.
Don't know about the rest of England, but Spurs are not really well known around the world. I'll struggle to name a handful of people I know here who know your club exist.I never realised that Spurs were quite so unpopular outside of London.
We obviously know that all of the main London clubs can't stand us but it's actually quite a good feeling knowing how many people on here don't like us either.
We are obviously making bigger steps in the right direction than I realised, especially as we really aren't an offensive club, don't have any real issues with any teams from the north, apart from like many clubs some historical ones with Leeds. I've never ever been aware of any real animosity from Spurs towards Utd, probably because you've done us so many favours over the years with Arsenal and Chelsea. It's quite surprising and interesting to know.
Attack. He's getting a lot out of a decent bunch but they need a bit of pace down the flanks as an alternative. So what are the weaknesses in their team? Where does MP need to strengthen?
Funny how he thinks people came to dislike Spurs' achievement of this season. It's the Spurs fans here that the dislike is pointing at. They're quite deluded to think they're representative of their club. Fecking hate Newcastle and their best fan in the league mentality, does not mean their club is going in right direction or they're ever a real rival (Toon at times used to be our shooting practice partner). And that doesn't mean I automatically hate Newcastle fans as a whole neither. It's the hooligan of any teams that is rightfully despised.Don't know about the rest of England, but Spurs are not really well known around the world. I'll struggle to name a handful of people I know here who know your club exist.
I don't think you're disliked either. You have a decent bunch of players and if not for Leicester, most here would have preferred your team winning the title. It's just that Spurs fans here and their posting style, are leading to a negative response towards your club. Glaston has been single handily causing people to lose their soft spot for Spurs, for years, and now it seems other posters are just adding to it.
Yeah, no doubt successful teams tend to be hated. But to confuse what Spurs have done this season with that sort of success is silly. You played well and finished 2nd. Let's not pretend this is the kind of story that causes envy and dislike. It will take some real success and even prolonged success for that to happen.Funny how he thinks people came to dislike Spurs' achievement of this season. Thing is it didn't materialize and United had changed so much. Remote rivalry is often built on recent competition, which long seen Spurs failed hard to achieve anything for themselves for a long time. Arsenal is fast becoming a more friendlier rival in the recent year. Now people have sympathy for Arsene. Less than a decade ago the rivalry was fierce. Arsene being unjustified dismissed would be welcomed here with open arms. Its a funny thing but a lot of Utd fans wont realise there was a time when Spurs were close to being our biggest rivals.
What on earth are you talking about? They were for a while one of our biggest rivals, it did materialise, it happened, it was a thing. I remember it clearly. Just because it isnt that way now doesnt mean it wasnt that way in the past.Thing is it didn't materialize and United had changed so much. Please elaborate. I didn't follow the club until late 90s. And at that time, there was air of rivalry. If you talk about the 70s then as I said, United has changed and Spurs couldn't keep up and in modern era, Spurs is not real rival. What on earth are you talking about? Spurs were a real rival in the 60's, just because it didnt happen in your lifetime doesnt mean it didnt happen. There was a time when Preston North End were a big club, just because it hasnt happened during our lifetimes doesnt mean they werent a big club. Please elaborate. I suppose much of this discussion really leans on what is going to happen next season.
Spurs' fans think they have "arrived" after challenging this season.
Fan's of bigger clubs think their "arrival" has as much to do with other's sleeping, and that will now change.
We'll only see next season how the two fair.

I've already given you the answer. The dislike isn't genuine. It's mostly due to Spurs posters here. Glaston has somehow annoyed loads of people.I wasn't talking about this season or success, we haven't won anything for years, so how would I be talking about success? That's why I said I was surprised by some of what I read here.
We aren't delusional, we know precisely where we are and have been in the food chain. We are optimistic, but surely there is nothing wrong with that, if you can't be optimistic then what the he'll is the point? However you paint the picture there does seem to be a genuine dislike here, it's there in the threads in black and white, I genuinely have no idea why which is why I asked because we are and have been an inoffensive club who hasn't competed properly at the top level for a long time.
London clubs is obvious, northern based ones I'm not bothered but surprised, that's all.

There was football being played before Fergie.

You should have started a poll of who people would like to see win the title if not Leicester, and Spurs would have won it easily.
You seem to miss my point. New United fan nowadays are not raised to with that Spurs rivalry. It might be a thing in the past, but it was a short term competition and had stopped being relevant. Someone like Leeds who are long term rival, even they turn to village club, is still known forever as rival for a rookie United fan. I am not trying to rewrite history here and concede for lack of knowledge of the 70s and 80s. Just saying this kind of rivalry is once upon a time rivalry, and not a eternal rivalry thou shall not keep forever for generations, if that clear thing up.Spurs were a real rival in the 60's, just because it didnt happen in your lifetime doesnt mean it didnt happen. Like I said, it's mostly because of Spurs' posters here. What that entails, I'm not sure. I imagine it does entail the views you mention, but I doubt it is anything to do with "all" Spurs fans.Ok, I thought i was reading it's because all their fans are delusional, think they are a big club, have arrived etc etc.

Point taken. Thanks for the info nevertheless. This should be more let be known more among united rank and no more happy for Spurs to win the league, I guess.Speak for yourself. there are plenty of United fans my age and older and the rivalry with Spurs is relevant. You need to stop thinking about yourself and your own generation and realise that United fans cover all generations.
The village club term is used in hypothetical sense if you read the whole thing I wrote. Here is a simpler version: Leeds is United fierce rival forever.Football has history, it's not a PL era sport only. Calling Leeds who are an historically great English club a 'village club' IMHO doesn't just insult them but also the history of the English game.
