Top 4 race 2016/17

We are done. I expect us to end up 6th. We don't win enough games. We also respond poorly to the pressure of needing to win. We didn't start playing for about 40 minutes today, and we've seen that a lot this season: Whenever we play knowing a win will take us up the table we nearly always fall apart performance wise. The players haven't got it in them.

Beat Arsenal and hope for a couple of slip ups. Pool and City are more than capable of doing so

This died 3 months ago, today we made relegation fodder look good

Lets just hope we can get the europa and play our kids in the league

Think we'll get 6 points from the last 4, leaving us on 71 points which isn't awful. Not enough for top 4 though. Was obvious in October or November that we were dropping too many silly points at home and that hasn't changed. All on for the Europa league as its been for a while IMO.

Europa league + injuries + our fixture list make this very unlikely. I'd consider playing a weakened team for the rest of the season.

We play Arsenal away, Spurs away, Southampton away and Palace at home.

Better it's over anyway so we can focus 100 on Europa instead of 75-25 on Europa.

Top 4 race was over in Feb. I dont know why some you still believe in this pipe dream.

That's that. Was always a tough task with the games remaining. Scrap the league and go for Europa 150%. If we play like we did today though we won't make it to fecking Stockholm

Read the whole sentence - I know that's maybe difficult for you but you even quoted the whole thing. I also didn't say our whole attack had broken down because of one player - which was the gist (re. your midfield) of the other posters fawning over Pogba.

Man you can reply without being dick too, it's not hard.

Post I quoted said Liverpool goal scoring went down and you replied Mane missing was the reason along with injuries. How is that not depending on one player.

A lot depends on the result of the north london derby later and our game tomorrow evening but, even if those results go against Utd, I still cannot see Jose wanting to risk a heavy defeat to Wenger by playing a weakened team. I know he is a very pragmatic manager but that personal rivalry runs deep with him.

I'd rather have your fixture list and you'd rather have ours. Our one is making me shit bricks.

If Arsenal beat Spurs today, they are your biggest threat to top 4, not us anymore.
How many draws at home now? :D

10 draws at home.
Old Trafford which is supposed to be our fortress and we only won 7 games so far.

The fact that we're even talking about a top four race shows the shambolic state United are in. We're in a race for what? To make up the numbers in the Champions League? Is that really the height of our aspirations right now? To be an also ran in one of the groups or maybe get to the last 16? Cos ladies and gentlemen that's our level right now.

People say, if we don't get top four we can't get the players we want. Maybe, maybe not? I think money will inspire a lot of players more than anything. Top four is a target for the Glazer's accountants. I want to win the title. Not 'get' top four. Our season was really dead months ago, when it became clear we were miles away from challenging for the title.

We're a nothing team right now.

Nearly every chance we've had of achieving top four this season we've made a complete and utter balls of...

All our eggs are in the Europa League basket now and to be honest I'd fear this side will find a way to f*ck it up.

League Cup final, we got out of jail.

I dunno, this team are very frustrating.

So true, but we need top 4 to avoid the Europa and the shambolic scheduling associated with it.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - Einstein

We do the same thing over and over, but some people keep expecting different results.

A fecking tragedy this season ain't it?

Just play the kids. Why take it seriously? If we genuinely don't believe its worth competing in we should just use it as a training ground for our youngsters. If we get knocked out so be it.

Chelsea with no European competition have stormed to the title like Leicester before them.

Agreed. It's not like it's ten years ago when making the top 4 in the PL made you a serious contender for the CL.

I doubt if any player is going to jump for joy at the prospect of joining Champions league cannon fodder.

We are done... let's aim for the europa... however with our injury crisis and having to play a Darmian-Blind cb pairing, I am hoping it won't be the Kaka Milan goal fiasco....:)

We're not done. Liverpool are broken a bit as well and don't have the comfort of playing a top 8 side.

Time to scrap the league now, esp with the injuries. Need to rest players even if we get beat by Spurs and Arsenal. Not important as the Europa League matches now. Need to give our players a break and just a sole focus.

Indeed. When PSG was on the way up they had no problem attracting huge names. They just threw huge amounts of money at it. United is just as capable of doing that.

If you're trying to sell United on the basis of us sneaking into the top four you're having a laugh. At this point in time we'd struggle to make the last 16 of the Champions League.

City and/or Liverpool just need to drop points in a game. That's assuming we win the rest of our games of course.
Lets be honest, we would just draw another if they do.

No point thinking about it, our players are cowards, and we are a cup team.

Watch Ighalo and Deeney do thier Cole and Yorke act against us tommorow. Fecking infuriating I can't take pleasure from United's piss poor performances, we will lose tommorow.

Best case scenario, we pick up 9/12 points in our remaining games (we'll lose Spurs away and miraculously beat all of Arsenal, Southampton and Palace). That'll leave us with 74 points. We'd still need Liverpool or City to drop 4 points in their remaining games, so 2 games where they don't win. With how easy their fixtures are, especially against teams with nothing to play for, I can't see it happening.

And that's if we get 9/12 points! I can easily see us drawing 2 of Arsenal, Southampton and Palace too. It's over.

Yup, lets hope they boys can get a result on Thursday, I would accept Jose playing the kids against Arsenal if we can just do that.

This is a genuine question and not a WUM but have the feelings towards how Jose set up at the Etihad changed after today's result? City's defence is not great by any stretch and with Fellani causing problems, their back line could have been exploited.
At the time, I though it was a good point gained but after today, it seems like you wasted an opportunity to ask questions of City

Certainly feels that way. A draw v City and a win v Swansea would have been pretty good. Draw in both looks horrendous.

City certainly trying their best to give it back to us though

Top 4 won't be over until the last game of the season. We aren't great, but there's a reason why Liverpool and City are still in touching distance, because they screw up just as much as we do.

Jose is a frontrunner. He gets his nose in front & does what it takes to stay there.
We are not the frontrunner , we are chasing , chasing requires a different more risky set up. Jose doesn't seem to understand this.
We are behind 4th placed citeh , yet we sat deep & put 11 men behind the ball against them ???

I guarantee wenger wont employ them tactics at spurs this afternoon. They may well get beat , but they will have the cajones to risk defeat in order to win.

Even if Arsenal, City and Liverpool do drop points I would play the reserve defence and rest Pogba from now on.
The risk is too great, we're dropping like flies.
It should be seen as a bonus if we get top 4, we shouldn't live and die by it when we have EL
