Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United

Ferguson wary of Saha threat

Thu, 01 Mar 13:06:29 2012

Manchester United fear former striker Louis Saha could put a serious dent in their Barclays Premier League title challenge as the reigning champions travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham on Sunday.

The France international has scored three goals in two league starts following his transfer deadline day move from Everton, and is likely to be paired in attack with Emmanuel Adebayor as Spurs look to close the gap on second-placed United to five points.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is wary of the threat his former player and his new team-mates pose to United's title battle with fierce rivals Manchester City, telling manutd.com: "He's got tremendous talent. He's got two great feet, he's quick, he's got a good spring in the air. There's no doubt he's a handful."

Where is that blade of grass that did him in so often when he was with us?

There's always hope Fergie is lying about Valencia, he's due another red herring.

We should invite Saha to warm up with our team right before the game, that seemed to be his downfall half the time.

Its more likely we're reading too much into his "should be ok" comments in his ghost written match day program.

Just read that Bale, VdV, and Kyle Walker are questionable to play play on Sunday.
From Harry's press conference this morning:

* Bale has a hamstring that's not torn but is a bit tight ... "hopefully should be okay" for Sunday.

* Walker "got a knock but he should be fit".

* Van der Vaart's "hopefully going to train today".

So pretty much everyone fit to play on Sunday...well that's a bit shit.

Good, so if United win there won't be any excuses for Spurs or the London media to hide behind. United are the injury hit team here lets not forget.

We're past that point now. Squeky bum time! I'd take a scrappy one nil win courtesy of a dodgy referee decision against a bunch injury ravaged Spurs youngsters.

Yep totally, I will take 3 points any which way. :) Hopefully without any more injuries!

Does Harry partake in the occasional bit of strategic misdirection, such that Bale may well be out and he's just covering?
Not really - he tends to play it straight when it comes to injuries.

Sounds like Smalling will be better placed sitting this one out; we are OK in central defence for this match as things stand, but I'd want to rest Rio against Bilbao so I'd focus on getting Smalling ready for that one, eight days after the actual injury should hopefully be more than enough to be safe.

Just seen the 06/07 fixture on MUTV. Spurs 0-4 United, O'Shea in goal, cracking performance from Larsson, good cameo from Saha (United) and some decent chances for Berbatov (Spurs). Great game, but how times change!

Did Giggs score one before half time? Or we got a peno.

Was a great game that.

Ronaldo got the first (pen), Vidic headed home for a second and Scholes and Giggs got one apiece to finish them off. Our record at WHL is frightening - 16 wins and 5 draws in 21 games is an insane record since the loss in 2001.

Almost lost one in 2009(?) when Tevez scored a late equaliser with his shin

------------ De Gea ----------
Rafael --- Evans -- Rio --- Evra
------ Carrick --- Scholes* ----
Nani ------ Rooney ------ Young
---------- Welbeck ------------

*or Giggs.

I'm expecting us to win here, 1-0 is enough. I hope Nani and Young will put good performance, I think they could be the key.
Bale is their top man, but I think we can stop him easily. Only problem is that he is given pretty much free role this year, so stoping him it's probably down to our midfield rather than to Rafael. Modric had a poor game for Croatia, let's hope he will continue like that for weekend too.
One more thing, no more stupid goals from setpieces please.

Likely Line-ups (Guardian)

I'd be pretty angry if that was our line up tbh.

All you guys out there must not have high hope tomorrow as Spurs are playing with 13 men.
The additional player is a very talented guy who is called Martin Aitkinson.
If United will to play Scholes, he will surely get send off unless Scholes just stroll around without getting into a tackle. The slightest tackle from him will be penalised. He will probably get 2 yellows if not a straight red.
I wonder whether United can protest and get someone else to referee the game. If I remember correctly, there was a United game where he was named but did not carry out his duty.

Did I miss something? Who's player number 12?

Re. the Guardian's predicted line-up: almost certainly Lennon will play instead of Kranjcar.

Whether Saha will play up front alongside Adebayor remains to be seen - it's possible, but if VdV is fit I'd expect him to play instead of Saha.

I'd say there's just as much pressure on Spurs after Arsenal's win today.

gonna be a close game I think, hopefully we can get the win though.

did I read right somewhere that Bale was doubtful?

Does Guardian really expect we will start without Nani.

Massive. Last week had the feel of Fulham 2007. A win today and the belief will be huge in the dressing-room.
