Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

I just have one question, if we were the one to sign Alves, were people here call this a short term plan from us and Jose's repeating what he did at Inter or not?

Depends on the circumstances. If City have an up and coming right back who needed time to develop, then it would be understandable. I dont believe City do though, they need a defensive overhaul from what I gather. Wonder what that means for their interest in Walker also, after a constant link. It's already a limited pool out there for defensive options. Acting now rather than putting it on the long finger - especially when City are pretty strong from midfield up already, just presume getting in lads for the longhaul as better.

There is a difference between being a RB at juve alongside Chiellini Barzagli and Bonucci and alongside Stones Otamendi and all.

Apparently. But that changes nothing about his class. Pep is getting him to improve the City back line. He will do that.

I think we are after 2 fullbacks on each side personally. I don't see Alves coming as a definite no on Walker. It's clear he's building a squad to compete and you can't do that with one full-back all season. Alves as an option is an excellent singing IF he's one of two. I would be thrilled of having him as our only RB.

Edit: As mentioned as well; his winning mentality will hopefully be invaluable in the dressing room.

He will also link up well with whomever is playing on that right flank and actually get in better positions to score

I don't understand the links to K.Walker though, can't see Spurs even considering that after he just extended

RB: Alves & Walker
LB: Mendy & Bertrand

For us it would have been unnecessary, we already have an ageing, excellent full-back of the same caliber in Valencia. Sure Alves is somewhat better, but Valencia already is in his role and has played in England for ten years. Overall, mixing old with younger is a great transfer strategy for a number of reasons - as long as they are good enough.

So far we have gotten Lindelöf, who is going to have a huge battle in terms of proving himself and becoming good enough, Alves surely does not. It now remains to be seen what else Mourinho will come up with. Shit I'm starting to fear that Liverpool will get Aubameyang if nobody else wants him... which is incredible when one year ago he was the one everyone wanted, and in the meantime he has scored a ton of goals.

Just confirming the fee is agreed now. I think he's costing us £39 million based on some tweets I've seen from Liverpool based journalists.

Pity If True I think Darmian was solid enough as a defender offered nothing going forward but was a pretty solid squad player

They say Mourinho is refusing to sell him, though.

The Special One, actually, is Juventus’ no.1 obstacle in their chase for Darmian. Mourinho, in fact, is not willing to sell the Italian.

The Old Lady has already made contact with the Red Devils and with the player’s entourage but if a final decision about the player depends on Mourinho, Darmian is not likely to join Juve in the summer.

Would be a good move for all parties involved. Would free up space and allow us to bring in Semedo

The source is Fabrizio Romano, interesting.

I would'nt lose any sleep over Darmian going but if he does go and we are also selling Smalling we are starting to look worse off at the back than we were last season, Linderlöf for Smalling and Semedo for Darmian might not be a bad bit of business, however as things stand Juve will only offer peanuts and a replacement won't be cheap, I also think Jose likes a disciplined player like Darmian in the squad so I can't see it happening.

If Mourinho plans to use the man-marking system in the future we should keep him unless it's an outrageous bid because he's been great in that system.

Because it wasn't expected.

Exactly

Credit to the player, financially and contractually he was at a crossroads during his divorce & representation change years ago

Now he dictates his career options without restrictions because his play, even at his age, delivers

Incredible player

They're linked to another back already.

That seems to be a more realistic option than Darmian.

De Sciglio is a left back isn't he?

I remember when he was going to be the next big thing a few years back, never really progressed.

just me who does not rate Salah?

My opinion will probably be biased for obvious reasons. :D

But he has developed a lot since his tenure at Chelsea and become much better on the ball. His end product was an issue but last season he developed it a lot.

If he utilized the spaces very well as Mane, he can be a success at Liverpool. I just don't know how Klopp will fit Mane and Salah together since Salah is RW most of times, may be he'll put Mane on the LW or play Salah SS.

Mane can play anywhere along the front line. Effectively. I'm sure Salah can too but if not then he can take the vacated right wing.
