UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

Point taken, gentlemen. Allow me to rephrase then, if you will. In a happy society where people care about their community, would you see this many youths crapping on their own doorsteps?

Clearly my generation has been disaffected by something. I'm not trying to condone the riots - particularly not this mindless violence. What I am trying to point out is that this'll be blamed on the incentive to be lawless (electronics are pretty cool) as opposed to the real reasons. Personally I feel strongly about the current deputy PM having lied to us. Others will be angry about the way they police treat them. Others will be frustrated because there is seemingly no future for us right now.

Again, another angle. If this is owing to boredom, how is that the fault of the rioters? Surely it's the job of an efficient economy to keep them active? How can so many young people be bored simultaneously?

There are pertinent questions at the root of this but they'll all be glossed over, as they were during the tuition fee protests.

Finally, don't get me wrong, the free stuff would definitely be an incentive to loot but you'd have to be seriously messed in the head to go setting the homes of innocents on fire. Why are people my age that messed up?

I hope you guys can see my point here. The violence and criminal behaviour is disgusting and instead of just trying to brush it off and move on, we should look into why this is happening.

Not to sound funny or anything but I'm well surprised Ealing went mad before Acton.

I accept that these kids don't exist in a bubble, even if their situation isn't their conscious motivation. Basically everything about this stinks, right down to the Caftards who want the army to go Rambo on them.

really , well your a fool then , sorry

So it's ok for rioters to burn peoples livelihoods down, intimidate innocent people, even break into their houses without fear of any repercussions? Bollocks.

Shoot them with rubber bullets, non lethal, yet I would say many of them don't deserve to be blessed with a life.

If that makes me a fool, then fool me once...

Based on my brief sojourn with the ones in Bayswater tonight, I'd say they're not angry. I mean, obviously some will be angry people. But as a group, they weren't angry. They seemed like bored kids waiting for the entertainment to start.

I am hearing off Facebook that there is trouble in Liverpool and a Police Station in Birmingham has been damaged.

Some pics on Twitter too apparently.

no I am not saying its right and you did not say plastic bullets and yes there could be a case to use them .
Even they can still kill , I know something has to happen and quickly.
I will give apologies for the fool comment , I dont think you are to be honest.

If I was in London right now, my first instinct would be to go to The Winchester, have a nice pint, and wait for all of this to blow over...

I had similar zombie survival thoughts earlier. Utterly mental, kids without cause.

The police station in Birmingham is on fire. This is a picture from Toxteth apparently

Pass a new law... ''the right to give birth is not a free right anymore''. I think it's fair considering the "yutes" on road these days. I mean you cnuts get paid to have babies who feck up my city WITH MY TAX MONEY.

I say shoot them all and stick their remains in the museum with Stalin.

These riots are nuts why would people do this to there own country. Own city. This is embarrassing for our country. Stop please

I see Ken Livingstone got a lot of stick earlier in this thread, but he seems to be speaking a lot of sense about the underlying social causes in the comments being replayed on BBC News right now?

He's using it to play partisan politics.

Boris Johnson would be saying the same thing if Ken Livingstone was the current mayor of London.

Whatever Ed Milliband is planning on saying tomorrow, Cameron would be saying if Ed Milliband was the PM etc etc.

It's easy for a politician to talk about stuff when they're not in power a la any politicians pre-election BS.

Horrible stuff going on. Hope all Caftards around England are safe and sound, and that they get this shit under control as soon as possible!

He's using it to play partisan politics.

Politics is by its very nature partisan. And his comments about the danger of police cuts at this time, and the nature of social disenfranchisement felt amongst youth were bang on.

The thing is of course this is to do with lack of education, opportunities, self respect and the materialistic world we live in but its not simple cause and effect, the kids don't know why they hate the world, which is the sadder part in all this.

That is how bad britain has got. That instead of people crying out for opportunities, they don't know they need them and they don't have the self respect to ask.

I've been attacked by 10/15 13 year olds with poles before. Scariest thing ever.

It's what politicians do when they're not in power, talk perfect sense until they get there. They always have the right answers and the right opinions when they're campaigning.

I mentioned plastic bullets earlier, but fair enough the thread is busy.

What would you suggest needs to happen?

The reality is that the police are definitely overstretched and can't deal with everything. That said, where there is a police presence, I would instruct them to go hard into the rioters and rule with an Iron Fist.

The military can be drafted in, as others have said just to add a 'presence' or a fear factor for the rioters. Some would inevitably still stay, but the vast majority of these little cnuts who have nothing better to do than just get involved and make a mess would ultimately scarper.

As I said earlier, I think there is more to this than just youths rioting. Someone at some level benefits from this.

That is stupid, but there should be a written test to become a parent instead of just the physical
