UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

0059: Merseyside Police confirm they are dealing with a number of incidents in South Liverpool, including cars being set alight. Members of the public have been advised to avoid Smithdown Road, Lodge Lane and Upper Parliament Street. In a statement, Merseyside Police's Andy Ward said: "Officer have tonight dealt with a small number of incidents of violence across the city. We will not tolerate any violence on the streets of Liverpool and have taken swift and robust action in response."

I really really hope this doesn't affect flights, going on holiday on the 10th. feck thats tomorrow!

I accept that these kids don't exist in a bubble, even if their situation isn't their conscious motivation. Basically everything about this stinks, right down to the Caftards who want the army to go Rambo on them.

This, I can fully agree with. Don't wanna pull out the "we're the victims" card here, because we're not, I think it's just important to highlight that these rioters are extremely disaffected young people and there's a reason for that. Society hasn't exactly treated us all that well.

There's this thought that if you're a youth growing up in London then it's easy for you because London has everything. Not true. Trying to get a job right now is nigh on impossible but you still have to pay London prices!

Based on my brief sojourn with the ones in Bayswater tonight, I'd say they're not angry. I mean, obviously some will be angry people. But as a group, they weren't angry. They seemed like bored kids waiting for the entertainment to start.

I think that makes them even worse human beings. If they were angry about something or fighting for something, it would still be over the top but not quite as disgusting. Doing it because they're bored and shitting all over other people is appalling. If it's out of boredom, they deserve any beatings, injuries, or other actions taken against them. They're no longer a part of civilized society.

The bits about the government yep, but he's made some good points.

I've never liked him anyway, but I've no time for anyone who would try and take a political gain from a national crisis whilst it is ongoing and people are fearing for their lives. There's a time for analysis and debate about causes from the nations leaders and that is when the issue is resolved and dealt with. Simply going on TV and saying 'well if I was in power this wouldn't happen' doesn't do anything productive and just grates.

I mentioned plastic bullets earlier, but fair enough the thread is busy.

What would you suggest needs to happen?

The reality is that the police are definitely overstretched and can't deal with everything. That said, where there is a police presence, I would instruct them to go hard into the rioters and rule with an Iron Fist.

The military can be drafted in, as others have said just to add a 'presence' or a fear factor for the rioters. Some would inevitably still stay, but the vast majority of these little cnuts who have nothing better to do than just get involved and make a mess would ultimately scarper.

As I said earlier, I think there is more to this than just youths rioting. Someone at some level benefits from this.

I agree with all you say , but to be honest I have no idea what I would do.
I think I would be in favour of the Iron fist approach and crack some heads , at get the peace and calm everybody want and take the criticism after when the fires are out.
The trouble I can see with that is there could be death and that is not what we want , they would be made some sort of hero.

The cost of all these riots will be say tens of millions. The cost of the current market turmoil and the bankers runs to hundre of billions but the riots will take all the news.

Yea banks have had no news coverage in recent times.

That guy on sky is telling everyone to get to the streets. Whilst the police and the BBC are saying everyone needs to go home and stay out their way.

There are millions of jobs in the UK at the moment, I get emailed about 400 a day. There are just too many scumbags who don't fancy the type of work that's available. Turn their nose up at the jobs and live sponging off the state because they can't be arsed.

If i wasn't just off to bed i'd call you an idiot and explain why.

As it is i will just pity you and rest easy.

Give me your email address I'll forward them on to you every day.

Some people just have too high standards. If you need the money you'll do the work. It's bullshit that it's nigh on impossible to get a job at the moment. There are shitloads of jobs out there.

0105: BBC staff member reports hundreds of youths ransacking a Panasonic store in West Ealing - no sign of police.

To be honest, this is the kind of reserved thinking that has let the trouble escalate to the degrees of which it has.

They need to take the crack heads first, then deal with the pr afterwards. I realise that it could backfire and escalate the situation, but then again what is there to escalate?

I live in Ealing and I'm fecking embarrassed to say so. We need a death curfew for these cnuts.

Aye it's smalltime, but it's in everything thay say, the nature of party politics. The opposition just become a parody. It does get to me too when our lads do it.

Not really true that

I did mean take the criticism after there have been heads cracked , this cant go much long .
It is spreading across London and if let soon across the country , I remember that last country wide riots in 85 and it was not nice.

gmpolice GM Police
No disorder or riots in Manchester. Speculation about ongoing riots totally inaccurate. GMP monitoring the situation.

THERE's NOTHING GOING ON IN MANCHESTER

The hundreds of jobs I get emailed to me every day 365 days a year must all be lying then. They're not really looking for workers.

Part time workers, those in education, apprenticeships, even unpaid work, don't get included in unemployment statistics. And its currently at 30% for 16 to 64's National Statistics Online - Unemployment

I'm amazed it that high it doesn't seem right. :wenger: Mental
