from twitter:

"Are you proud of what you're doing?" asks Sky reporter. "Are you proud of your mum?" girl responds. This. Is. England.

Dear god.

Because they are saying the same thing over and over and its rather annoying :wenger:

Comments about it being the 'fault' of immigrants are fecking stupid, however the policies of successive governments in terms of dealing with the demands of immigration are certainly part of it, and part of the discrepancy you're pointing to yourself.

Thats not saying immigration shouldn't be allowed, just that how its dealt with has been naive and inadequate.

As for looking to yesteryear, I referenced attitudes during the war (in response to the excuse of people growing up in hard times) to point towards a difference in societal attitudes between then and now, they had it far worse that the current generation didn't so whats changed between then and now, why have attitudes changed so much, to an extent that its now ok to destory a 150 year old business in your community that offers god knows how many employment, or to burn your neighbours house down?

If we really want to address the issues which are causing these attitudes thats what we need to look at. How have we ended up where we are? Society is part of it... but ultimately society is what we make it and the prevalent attitudes of its members. Its not some controlling, external force.

Nobody has said that yet it is inferred that I did, I actually said very early on in the evening I was concerned that if this drags on the likes of the BNP and EDF will play the race card and whip up vigilante reprisals.

The point I was making regarding immigration is the one you are making, it has been very badly handled for many years. Very high levels of migration, from many different countries, overwhelmingly heading to very small and densely populated parts of the country, often the poorest parts of the country, is always going to throw additional complexities into the mix if not aptly handled.

I have no qualms with immigration in principle if immigrants are either genuine asylum seekers or suitably qualified for what they want to do, if the country benefits by their presence then I am very happy with immigration. Though when you have the likes of Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham etc. with inherent economic problems, in dire need of gentrification and investment leading to ghettoisation, on top of being home to a huge number of incoming and second/third generation immigrants, it is going to put a spin on things.

That does not by any stretch of the imagination mean that I am blaming this on immigration, the point I am making is that you cannot talk about ghettoisation of parts of London and exclude immigration from that.

Dear god.

Solid comeback in fairness.

I mean, how are you supposed to respond to that?

This could turn really ugly soon. Apparently rioters are building up in numbers... getting ready to attack Dalston again, after being ran out by the Turks. Could turn in to a blood bath.

That does sound bad, and that could turn into a bloodbath easily.

Respect to the Turks.

BBC reporter saying Ken has lost the plot!

 Yes!

Society has always been unequal, but it is this generation who are the beneficiaries of one of the most generous social covenants in the world - previous generations did not get anything close or even dream of getting the life chances that kids get now. There are people in their fifties who were born into slums, I'm sure they would have loved housing benefit for a decent home or a student loan to get the chance to go to university - but they didn't and they got on with it.

What are you on about. I'm in my fifties, and I can tell you that good quality council housing was widely available, after a wait, and I personally went to university with a grant (not a loan, a grant) big enough to keep me pissed most of the time for three years. Go to bed, you're over-excited.

Isn't TBGB about 22 years old? He sounds like a 55 year old politician. TBGB needs to go loot himself a ps3 or some porn mags and have a normal childhood.

The police should go and raid a sperm bank and start shooting it at the protesters. They'll soon go home.

On a serious note though, they really need to get some water cannons out or have the helicopters start shooting tear gas at them from above.

"Looting the bikes, nicking.....erm....smashing the....er...pizza huts......and it's getting very worse".

Feel for the guy but he's not great at this talking business.
