UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

If the government can't guarantee the safety of it's citizens, maybe US style gun laws aren't such a bad idea after all

Does anyone know why the army haven't got involved?

With regards to communities standing up for themselves, I'm all for it. As Mockney said, get proper numbers involved and the looters will be overhwelmed. It'd be great if everyone united and give these scum a good kicking. It's about time communities stood together with a common goal, instead of the usual shit we see in the news.

I've seen a few bits and pieces saying that there's trouble starting here in Preston, though I'm not sure if it's true yet.

Where'd you se that Mr pocco, if I may ask.

So a friend of mine had their flat in Haringey broken into and completely stripped bare. Took everything. Even their bedding. Wasn't your normal break in either. Every window in the place had been smashed in and they obviously took their time looting it. Another friend got fronted up to by a gang of masked hoodies while walking to work through London Fields and only just managed to talk his way out of a beating.

London's a shit place to be right now, even if most people are managing to stay un-molested. Sounds as though the impression i'm getting from the news coverage isn't far wide of the mark.

That is disastrous. :( cnuts.

The only thing I worry about is exactly the second bit, getting fronted on by a gang of them for absolutely no reason. I'm half tempted to stash my nun-chucks in my bag tomorrow.

Yep, Tottenham, Hackney, Croyden, Ealing, Birmingham, Salford, Manchester and all the other places involved would undoubtedly have been much safer places to be over the last few nights if everybody had guns.

Yeah one thing that would make this a lot better is if half these cnuts on the streets had guns

EDIT - feck off A1. By the way did you see my other back-track, you were right about ought, sort of.

Police helicopter has been circling in Hammersmith for about 20 minutes now... though there doesn't appear to be anything going on. Might just have felt like flying.

Yeah yeah.. just putting it out there.

But I can't help to think that if no one's there to protect your family or your property, why shouldn't you be able to do so?

Though, I should probably have worded it differently. "Swiss style" gun laws ;)

Would be like a Hollywood blockbuster.

Perhaps they aren't trained to deal with this sort of thing, but it looks worrying to me that the police a vastly outnembered. Even if they were used as 'numbers' on the streets, I think most of these looters would think twice about getting involved where they are.

It just seems daft that our own country is getting ripped apart in places and we can't even utilise our own army to help deal with it. It'll be interesting to see how we deal with this, but right now I can only see an army presence or backlash from communities putting an end to this.

I think it's like that across London. I can see a shitload of helicopters from my roof but no flames...

Ought is a Manc thing, Aidan.

Owt, surely? Though half my lot are from Yorkshire so maybe I'm wrong...

The vast, vast, vast majority of people.

Today almost nothing has happened. It's as safe as any other normal night here now.

Do you mean the way it's spelt or the word itself?

And I've had a lovely beef steak. I've also got my baseball handy incase some scallies decide to pay a visit.

about time too , Police challenging a gang in Birmingham.

Apropos of nothing, a few years back they did a study on criminals who were identical twins separated at birth. There were 13 of them, and when they tracked down their twins, they found out that 9 of them were also criminals.

The other 4 were policemen.

From BBC: Liverpool city centre has gone into lockdown with all shops closed from 6pm. A digger has been used in an attempted robbery of a Post Office in Bootle.
