we should also send on g neville and scholes for the last 10 mins to get their 3rd bookings so they can go into the 1/4's with clean slates

good plan

Silvestre is out, and Fergie said that because of that he won't start Fletcher as he wants to get the balance right and only a couple of youngsters will start. I suppose it means Pugh could well be the one at left back With Richardson or Nardiello the other youngster.

Cheers mate, I got back on there and started the windups - lets get them going again

:D

Quality. They claim two of Fletcher, Richardson and Pugh will start and then rather forget to include any of them in the probable lineup.

4-5-1 our youngsters will need to adapt to this tactic if they want to succeed at OT

GK.Ricardo ( An experienced keeper is needed in young team + he desperately needs to play to improve his match fitness)

RB.Roche (more caps for young scarlet Roche)

CB May (an excellent performance may (difficult though) prolong his stay at OT )

CB Blanc (Who is better than Blanc to lead a young side)

LB Pugh (more first team experience)

RW OGS ( if he plays well we will be sure to have the ideal right winger cover for Becks in our hands)

DM Stewart (a good test for the Scottish U21 terrier)

DM P Nev (another good occasion to study P Nev’s well in his new role as a defensive midfielder)

LW Richardson ( A good game will confirm Richardson’s talent)

AM Fortune ( Scored a wonder in this role against Brazil U 23, this experience could prove handy in the long run)

STK Webber ( Deserves a chance to show his worth)

That team would be suicide.

Youngsters want experience - not one involving a massacre tho.

when I said youngster I meant only young NOT Fledgling. O Shea is currently our best defender
but he still needs more experience

In my side there are 5 youngsters and 6 senior. Quite a good balance.

Perhaps I should put Fortune on the left and insert Forlan in the link man role

(1) either we let FC Bâle win, and 'give' a weak team to the winner of one of the other groups for quarter finals,

(2) or we beat or draw FC Bâle, and 'give' a good team (deportivo or juventus) to the winnier of the other group, thus in doing so, this can weaken the other team (fatigue stuff you know...)

But I'd go for the first option, at least if there is a possibility that FC Bâle qualifies for the semi final or higher, this would surely arrange us as well as other teams in the same situation. What do you think? Very tricky indeed.

are you serious about that? can't imagine any sportsman even to think about that.

we would need all the luck on earth to qualify for the quarterfinals and i dont really believe in this. i expect our time to get a result tonight but then lose at home against juve.

by the way: we re not french or something. you can call us "basel".

In Spanish we call you Basilea! ;)

Anyhow, I think you will win tonight. Of course you can qualify. If Deportivo beat Juventus tonight, Juventus are out of it, as Deportivo will have 3 more points and thus a better head to head record between the two. You will just be one point behind Deportivo, Juventus will no longer be interested as they will be out - you can beat them, and we'll take care of Deportivo for you. ;)

I agree with you as far as the bit about sportsmanship goes. I would seriously think about continuing to support United if they intentionally fielded a weak team just to piss off Juve or Depor. Fortunately, Ferguson has said that he will be fair to them and put out a team capable of winning.

On the Basel forum some people did say we were putting out a weaker team on purpose. That is not true. Our central defence pairings have been wiped out by injury, basically Butt and AN Other, Van Nistelrooy needs a rest, and so does Beckham. There have been other injuries as well.

I think you will lose tonight however. Hopefully we won't repeat the mistakes we made in team selection against Haifa.

According to Fergie:

Gary Neville, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Phil Neville, Nicky, Diego Forlan, Solskjaer, possibly Blanc will all start. Fortune and Silvestre are out, Fortune back in a week, Mick possibly by sat.

He was a youngster last year wasn't he? It's great to see a player come of age isn't it? ;)

Spinosa fielding a weak side will

1) enable us to rest our stars
2) avoiding them from picking up injuries and yellow cards
3) Give valuable experience to our youngsters

You should look for another team to support because the advantages of fielding a weaker side are too much for SAF to resist

There's a difference between resting players and having them excluded because of injury, and fielding a weakened team to throw a match. If United ever threw a match I would be extremely pissed off.

In any case, Ferguson has said he's only going to field 2 youngsters with Fletcher losing out to Pugh. So it should be a relatively strong team still. Not the youth team as some people make it out to be.

i would seriously think about continuing to support United anyway

;)

some swiss papers said that stuff about ferguson sending out a weak team and being arrogant in his statements but on the forum no one believed it.

At the moment I prefer to lose the rest to CL games rather than pick up unneccessary injuries and yellow cards

But that is my opinion of coarse

The scousers will be gutted if Basel qualify.

I say we should give them as much help as possible in their qualification bid.

:D

Mr famous Basil...

Correct me if I'm wrong but in 99 we played a zillion more games, kept using our first eleven and won everything. Don't remember much complaining then about too many games or too many injuries

When you're winning you're games everyone wants to play all the time and confidence grows. At the moment we can't get into the winning habit, and allowing us to potentially lose this match by fielding a weakened team is all wrong as far as I'm concerned.

it means "there's someone looking for friends despairingly"

My little good luck ritual fits nicely into the discussion...

But at that time we had four top notch proven strikers, so dropping/resting Cole and Yorke wasn't considered as weakening the team imo

If Basle are really good enough they will qualify.
We must not throw our match away...No room for complacency

I'm gonna guess at what it means, and with no knowledge of German it could be wildly incorrect:

26 may 1999: I had the idea for setting up the first internet (www) service in Europe in 1989 at the department of Molecular physics, Genf University

C'mon Faulty's how close was that?

The Faulty's seem a bit upset about the odd's being given to any of their players to score the first goal

From their board:

Hallo Basel,

1-0 Erste Goal: Yakin Hakan 75:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Gimenez 75:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Rossi 75:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Tum 80:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Ergic 100:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Chippy 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Cantaluppi 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Barberis 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Varela 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Huggel 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Esposito 150:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Murat Yakin 150:1 (!!)
1-0 Erste Goal: Zwyssig 200:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Duruz 250:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Quennoz 250:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Atouba 250:1
1-0 Erste Goal: Haas 300:1

Jetzt möchte ich nur eine Sache sagen. Der will seie FCB Jahreskarte rückzahlen, dann kann er 1 oder 2.- auf den Sieg des FCB wetten :

Grüsse aus Wallis

Mike
