we should also send on g neville and scholes for the last 10 mins to get their 3rd bookings so they can go into the 1/4's with clean slates

When you watch him play does he make you think he's a youngster?!?
I firmly believe he'd have made the difference in the Worthy final, had he played

(1) either we let FC Bâle win, and 'give' a weak team to the winner of one of the other groups for quarter finals,
(2) or we beat or draw FC Bâle, and 'give' a good team (deportivo or juventus) to the winnier of the other group, thus in doing so, this can weaken the other team (fatigue stuff you know...)
But I'd go for the first option, at least if there is a possibility that FC Bâle qualifies for the semi final or higher, this would surely arrange us as well as other teams in the same situation. What do you think? Very tricky indeed.</strong><hr></blockquote>
are you serious about that? can't imagine any sportsman even to think about that.
we would need all the luck on earth to qualify for the quarterfinals and i dont really believe in this. i expect our time to get a result tonight but then lose at home against juve.
by the way: we re not french or something. you can call us "basel".

I agree with you as far as the bit about sportsmanship goes. I would seriously think about continuing to support United if they intentionally fielded a weak team just to piss off Juve or Depor. Fortunately, Ferguson has said that he will be fair to them and put out a team capable of winning.
On the Basel forum some people did say we were putting out a weaker team on purpose. That is not true. Our central defence pairings have been wiped out by injury, basically Butt and AN Other, Van Nistelrooy needs a rest, and so does Beckham. There have been other injuries as well.
I think you will lose tonight however. Hopefully we won't repeat the mistakes we made in team selection against Haifa.

He was a youngster last year wasn't he? It's great to see a player come of age isn't it?![]()

There's a difference between resting players and having them excluded because of injury, and fielding a weakened team to throw a match. If United ever threw a match I would be extremely pissed off.
In any case, Ferguson has said he's only going to field 2 youngsters with Fletcher losing out to Pugh. So it should be a relatively strong team still. Not the youth team as some people make it out to be.

some swiss papers said that stuff about ferguson sending out a weak team and being arrogant in his statements but on the forum no one believed it.

well we made quite a lot of changes for the semi final replay against arse if i remember rightly yorke, cole and giggs were rested or dropped to the bench

But at that time we had four top notch proven strikers, so dropping/resting Cole and Yorke wasn't considered as weakening the team imo

I'm gonna guess at what it means, and with no knowledge of German it could be wildly incorrect:
