I missed this one at the time but it turns out that last month we expanded our partnership with Airtel to include Bangladesh. It's a three year deal.
There are now 15 telecommunications partners covering 37 countries world wide.

One of the byproducts of the Glazer controversy is that business aspects of the club which would have been ignored as boring in the past have become compelling reading for fans of the club. My degree in economics has finally gotten put to some use after all these years...if only in trying to figure out what's going on with the business side of the club.

I was thinking yesterday that it had been a little while since we last heard about any new commercial deals, certainly after the stream of them that were announced at one time. Given there has been more invested in the commercial side of the club (wasn't the big increase in the wage bill at the time of the last accounts put down to an increase in commercial staff?) then I'm a little surprised it's been so quiet, despite the terrible economy.
More deals must be being worked on though, at least for renewals such as this.

So the new five-year deal with Chevrolet replaces the previous eight-year long agreement with Audi. I haven't seen any figures in terms of annual value but it's been described as a ''significant increase'' on what we were receiving from zee Germans.

I just find the notion of posting on a football forum about the increase in revenue from a new deal which sees Chevrolet replace Audi as the sponsors of our substitutes seats, well, strange. Why would you bother?

Does this new deal mean Chevy logos on the seats on the 'bench'? Maybe the players will start pitching up to Carrington in Corvettes rather than A6s
I never saw a reported figure for how much that deal was worth in the latter years (the contract was renewed several times since 2004). Based on similar second tier sponsorships I'd say it was worth £1.5m-£2m pa with the new Chevrolet deal being valued at £3m+ pa.

An extra million pounds of revenue per year, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things, nothing news. GCHQ has a curious agenda with this sort of stuff, and I find it strange.

The growth in commercial revenues is absolutely fundamental to the club's future in terms of gaining a competitive advantage over other clubs and sustaining a strong playing squad. I know stories like these upset the anti-Glazer fanatics, who like to pretend that our American owners have brought nothing positive to Manchester United, but that's half the fun of reporting and commenting on them.

I think its interesting gee, and it is important especially regarding the FFP rules coming in soon, we need every bit of extra revenue we can get.

I clicked in expecting to find news.
There wasn't any.
It's not ''nothing in the grand scheme of things, nothing news''. A £1m uplift on a sponsorship agreement, and it could well be more than that for all I know, is a perfectly significant event for a business generating £330m pa. And when you start getting that £1m-£2m uplift on all of your 10-12 (non-telecom) global second tier sponsors then it becomes VERY significant.

It doesn't matter if the new deal is only a slight increase over the old one, it's a new deal and this is the thread where those deals are highlights and/or discussed.

I find any news that the club is expanding financially interesting, certainly more so than the "have you ever shit yourself in public" type threads. More revenue = less debt = no debt = world domination........simples
