The waiting feels an awful lot like adding a girl you fancy on Facebook and waiting for her to "accept" your friendship request:lol:

I don't mean to be rude but this post made me laugh/smile.

Bloody swearing, it's fecking disgusting isn't it!
Yeah, that is important as he respected the manager, other players, coaching staff etc. If he swore at them, that is a sign if disrespect. I am not saying Ronaldo is an angel, but the best player any player in the world should aspire to.

Let's move back to discussing Van Gaal.

So it would appear that LVG to Utd is pretty much nailed on if the press are to be believed?

What then, should be made of Pep G's reported comments in his press conference the other day that Bayern should "back him or sack him"?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...issuing-ultimatum-to-Bayern-Munich-board.html

Is all not well in the Bayern camp under Pep?

Makes you wonder why if LVG is nailed on for the Utd job, why not just announce it? It's hardly a secret we are in for him?

Is it possible that Pep's comments were designed to attract our attention because all is not well for him at Bayern?

Just a thought!!!

Quite a Biased view of things in that article. The only criticism came from Beckenbauer, whom no one takes seriously any more.
pep just declared that he would continue to follow his way of football and not ditch everything because of one lost tie. No one in Germany understood his words as being an ultimatum.
If Peps words were "an ultimatum", you guys better prepare for your daily "ultimatum" once LvG shoes up at Old Trafford.

Pep, Rummenigge and sammer are already in discussions about possible player signings (and departures) for the coming season.

Fair enough, was just a thought. Just think it was a slightly unusual thing for him to say based on the fact he's one of the worlds most sought after coaches, and has just won the Bundesliga at a canter.

I get the impression Pep has been found out. Without Messi, Xavi and Iniesta can he be the best coach in the world?

Is this the worst kept secret in football now? I just read a Bryan Robson interview to MUTV where he was arguing that Van Gaal should keep Giggs in the fold. Fergie's departure has taken the suspense out of this club!

"I think it would be very disappointing for those lads not to be kept on, in whatever role, as they are part of Manchester United," the former club captain told MUTV.

"The fans would be very disappointed if they don't have a future in the club.

"I have read that Van Gaal wants to bring in a goalkeeper coach, a fitness coach, and (Patrick) Kluivert as his assistant.

"If you are talking about bringing all these people in you have to make sure that you are making the right decision and you are not allowing them too much rope.

"It is up to the board to step in and say 'you can have leeway with this, but there are definitely restrictions on this part of the club'.

"That has to come from the club rather than the new coach. Sometimes I think when you go into a new club, why not give the staff a chance?"

And experience?
In Giggs' case it'll just be his longstanding excellence as a player. I'm not a massive advocate of him as assistant by any means, I think it's up to Van Gaal to decide whether he wants that, but I can see the advantages of it in terms of as a link to the players. He'll be quite late to full-time coaching given how long his playing career lasted but you'd imagine he's been preparing for it for a while. I'd certainly be in favour of him being on the coaching staff in general, but that's obviously on the assumption he's not plotting in the background all the while. I'd like to think he's smart enough to know he can't manage Manchester United until he's had a good few years experience of actually coaching, and would happily accept a normal coaching job.

The annoying things about the whole Giggs question is not knowing if it's actually an issue. Is this something being negotiated in great detail or was an agreement reached on it quite easily? Does Van Gaal have reservations about it? I hope he isn't being made to compromise too much about how he is going to run things, he needs to be able to get on with it his way.

The core of the team isn't rotten though. We have a great keeper, centre-backs who whilst young I find exciting and future legends, okay CM is an issue, but up front we're fine with Rooney and RVP.

What would worry me is if we let the failings of David Moyes lead to a consensus that a hammer rather than scalpel is needed to fix our problems. Yes it has holes here and there but it's still fundamentally a good squad and there's no way in hell a semi-competent manager would have us drop out of the top 4 this season, let alone 7th.

I'm not so sure.

Smalling, Jones and Evans are all injury prone and error prone.

Rooney and RVP don't work together but neither will stand for being dropped. Both are also only likely to get worse and more injury prone too.

We don't really have a spine at all.

Looking at his history of fast, attractive football with a penchant for blooding youth, if he can replicate that at United ... If he can do that, it'll work nicely.

van Gaal? He certainly doesn't play fast and attractive football. This is the coach that inspired Guardiola, so what we will see is the second most similar coach to Guardiola that is available these days. Possession football with robotic like similarities being drilled in to the team which will keep most matches looking pretty much the same.

At its best it can be a fun watch, like Barcelona or Bayern at their best, at worst it can be dreadful and possession may not lead to anything like Barcelona/Bayern at their worst.

van Gaal's glaring difference is that he loves width, whilst Pep prefers intricate play through the middle and close ball control in confined areas.

I agree about van Gaal loving width, but the part about Guardiola isn't true. For Bayern he has used the wide areas as his main penetrative route, but with Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets all playing centrally it made sense to involve them in the game as much as possible.

But the reason his width has been so frequent at Bayern is because he basically has two of the greatest wingers in the world at his disposal. Even then, both like to cut inside and interchange. It is a thing for Pep, but it's nowhere near as much as van Gaal, IMO.

For what its worth, Daily mail claim this is his preferred line up for next season.

De Gea
Rafael Hummels Jones Shaw
Carvalho Kroos
Cavani Mata Muller
RvP

What's the point in even mentioning that?

From the current crop of CB's, I'd say Evans will be the main man. He is by far the most comfortable on the ball and doesn't lose composure when given it, which is integral seeing as LvG seeks to instigate from the back, often playing back toward the centre backs and keeper. If only we had him and Rio from 6 or so years ago.

The daily mail are smoking something very special to come up with that. Six new players likely to cost 250 million, two of which, Cavani and muller, played out of position.

So, what happens if this doesn't get announced on Wednesday? There will surely be a lot of panic since van Gaal will start his preparations the following day.

I am hoping it gets announced tomorrow evening after the game.

Essentially, yeah. The 7th has long been reported as the deadline, even before Moyes got sacked. If we haven't managed a deal by then there's seemingly something major blocking the way.

It's looking fairly sure he will be announced though, so I'm not too concerned.

Actually it'd be interesting as that would mean we are waiting for someone who hasn't finished the season yet with his current team. But everything points towards the fact he is going to be announced in two days. I would love to see him at OT tomorrow!

van Gaal loves width no doubt, but Guardiola hasn't shown or named a particular preferences in this regard so it is not an accurate and factual point on his philosophies. There is already a difference, van Gaal always has width in his teams and Guardiola doesn't see it as a necessity. We don't have to stretch that conclusion to "Guardiola prefers intricate plays through the middle" because that point isn't correct.

If van Gaal had Iniesta, Messi, Busquets and Xavi playing centrally they would also play with intricate plays through the middle. van Gaal is by no means a manager who won't attack through the middle, he wants wide wingers because he says it opens up the space centrally. van Gaal has no preference as of whether to attack mainly out wide or centrally, for Bayern with Robben and Ribery he opted for a strategy relying more on the wingers to create but that hasn't been his philosophy in all his sides.

If he considers our central players to be capable of breaking down teams to a satisfying level then he will be playing with intricate plays through the middle.

Don't buy it for a second.

Cavani is unhappy at PSG because he is getting played out wide so I don't see why he would join a team with no CL football to just get played out wide again.

I don't think we would attract all of them players either.

His Ajax side were terrific. Maybe I'm living in the past...

I don't know an awful lot about Van Gaal. But I will be supporting Holland this World Cup. Alongside England of course.

Could you imagine if our next manager was the guy who just won the World Cup. Wishful thinking I know.
