United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Sadly it's the only way to go. Otherwise we just end up as a feeder club.

How will we end up as a feeder club? To be honest I just don't really see what our scouts are really achieving anymore. Can't we identify the next great wingers and try to bring them in? All we seem to do is target the tried and tested players that other big clubs already own. It's a shit transfer startegy.

It sucks that he's the best option right now when we really need a new manager.

But his personality is what we need right now. Moyes was so beta.

Agree with this. There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to find the kinds of players that made Dortmund and Atletico such a success. Our fans seem to have become obsessed with buying the most expensive players out there like that would be the instant solution to everything. If there is any truth to the Cavani rumours, I will be shocked but it will show a dramatic shift in our philosophy as a club.

Robben!? feck that. We're losing our identity as a club. Are we just going to compete with City and Chelsea by seeing who can buy the trophy? I really don't like what we're becoming. At least buy good young players that can go on to be remembered as great United players. These players have already achieved it all elsewhere.

I really hope United aren't going this route. The like of Thiago or Strootman, massive potential but still not world class, is the level we should go for.

Or the like of Sanchez, who despite winning trophies with Barca but still underrated, is the other alternative; if we want to go with more established player.

I agree that it won't happen. The problem is though, are we happy settling for 4th next season, or do we want to be challenging for the league again.
If we get rid of 5 players, and bring in 2 or 3, I don't expect us to challenge for the league, and it will be one of the first seasons we will go into it happy with 4th.

I'd love to see an overhaul of the squad, but yes, I don't expect it to happen
If we saw that much change in the squad all at once as you're suggestions we'd never challenge for the title anyway, we'd be a squad of strangers having to get used to each other from scratch. I'd argue we have a better chance of doing better with am incremental approach, tho of course this is unknown territory, it's hard to say which way round is better. If the Glazers wanted to throw enough money at the problem to do everything now I wouldn't object... With the WC as well tho, just not realistic.

Christ. The transfer window hasn't even started ffs. So how the hell are we losing our identity?

So apparently we signing half of Bayern and you believe that?

You would think that if Rodgers analyzed Liverpool under Dalglish, he'd need to shipped out the whole team (bar one or two player) before he can challenge for the title, wouldn't you?
Players like Ashley Young, Cleverley and Anderson have been really bad even under Sir Alex who gets the best out of his players. Now if you really think that those players can step up, it's your choice. I don't believe they can.

Are you Gary Neville in disguise? The only thing that matters is winning, the method we use to win is irrelevant.

The squad will look like strangers in the earlier parts of the season when they're all new to van Gaal's tactics anyway.

Never mind competing for the title. With the kind of radical overhaul that a lot of people are claiming our squad needs, I reckon a top four finish would be a big ask.

The impatience of some football fans to fix problems by adding 4, 5, 6 or even more new players to the best XI never ceases to amaze. It's an approach that we've never taken before and almost never guarantees instant success. If Van Gaal does attempt something that radical I fully expect us to be struggling to get in the CL slots next season with loads of caftards using this as evidence that the manager isn't good enough.

Why does everyone sound so certain that hes coming to us?

You obviously have not been reading the papers. When there's a unanimous opinion amongst all publishers that something is going to happen... it almost always does. The last time this happened? The two days before Moyes was sacked.

I have some sympathy with it because I think even if we don't have a complete overhaul of personnel, we'll have a complete stylistic and tactical overhaul that's going to be pretty disruptive anyway. I don't think we'll be competing for the title next year. So maybe there is an argument for changing the players at the same time we change the style and think about preparing for the season after next.

I don't actually advocate that, and neither do I think it'll happen. But i can understand people wanting that. Things have been that bad this season the temptation to sweep it all away and start almost from scratch is extremely strong.

But ultimately, I suspect, flawed. There is plenty worth salvaging from our squad, and the Glazers are not going to burn everything we have down and start again anyway. Too expensive.

We're losing our identity as a club because we might bid for Robben?

Sorry to spoil this majestic rant, but he is the worst coach to go out and buy players. Woody will buy the players according to Moyes's selection of players scouted. Van gaal will probably bring in 1-2 players that he knows are top class. He had football directors ho brought him the players.

Woody will buy the players van gaal agrees too.

In 2002 Chelsea spent 500k on 3 new players. That season they finished 4th. They had some good players, and some not so good players.
The very next season, out of nowhere, in came a new owner, spending 150m on 17 players. They finished second

After a good season, a full season of playing with each other, the team decided in invest another 60m on 5 new players. That team went on to win the league for the next two seasons.

I am not really expecting an overhaul either, but I would like one. Next season we could be in a total transition. New manager, with a complete new style of player. Whether we have a bunch of new players or not, having this new system is going to be new for the squad anyway. Wouldn't it be better, bringing in 5 or 6 players (not 17, which would be even worse), spending a season gelling them together. I think with 5 or 6 players, you will still keep the core of the team. I think 4th place is very manageable if we did this. Quality players, are just that, quality.

This would give us a great foundation to build upon. With this strategy, I'd be happy back in the CL, rather than just push for the title, but I'd expect if 5 or 6 players did come in, we'd push better than we did this season.
The problem with our squad is, we don't push out the clearly bad players, and these have built up over time

Using that logic, that'll mean we lost our identity years ago before Robben opted to go to Chelsea before us.

Depressing when you've spent a season in transition, and you realise all you've been doing is transitioning to a state of almost total shitness, and you need another season to transition again into something else.

Well at least a season of transition (read regression) is behind us.

I think a season of transition in the right direction could be fun actually. It just depends on what direction is.

It would be a great sentiment but the core of our team is rotten and needs cutting out and replacing.

It needs that Chelsea moment, in 2 seasons time our squad, apart from maybe two or three names needs to be completely unrecognisable from what it now.
We should of done better this season with what we have, we should of made additions, got in the top four, moved some players on brought some players in.

We are a season behind in our transfer dealings, 2 or 3 should of gone in the summer, 2 or three should of been brought in, a couple of players should of been brought in January and at least one moved on.

This summer a top club looking to challenge for honours would be looking at 2 or 3 players, a club rebuilding would be looking at 3 in 3 out plus some prospects.

We have stood still for a year when we needed to be active.

The core of the team isn't rotten though. We have a great keeper, centre-backs who whilst young I find exciting and future legends, okay CM is an issue, but up front we're fine with Rooney and RVP.

What would worry me is if we let the failings of David Moyes lead to a consensus that a hammer rather than scalpel is needed to fix our problems. Yes it has holes here and there but it's still fundamentally a good squad and there's no way in hell a semi-competent manager would have us drop out of the top 4 this season, let alone 7th.

I do think that we need a CB, with experience and leadership. I don't mind Evans, Jones and Smalling, but I do think we need another CB that brings them qualities with them. I just don't think them 3 are good enough yet.
For me, personally, I think we need 1 LB, 1 CB, 2 CM and 1 LW. That is 5 players that I think we need to get back on track this season. I do believe a RW would be nice, but I am not trying to be overly greedy here

One way will see us go nowhere and spend a great deal of money in the process, one way will see us create a far better team than we have now.

It's a turning point in our clubs future that sees us either do a Liverpool under Dalgliesh, or a Chelsea under mourinho.

Anyone who's suspicious of Van Gaal and his relationships with players should watch this video of his qualification story with Holland

ᴴᴰ The Netherlands • Ready for World Cup 2014 • A…:

Seems like he's very passionate, not to mention some cracking goals from RVP and VDV what ever happened to that guy?

WTF WTF Why hasn't this been announced yet ??

He's backed out, hasn't he? We're left with Giggs as manager. Wallwork's coming back to coach the reserves and David May will be our sporting director. :(

Or. Woody has an ace up his sleeve. Imagine Atletico wins the double of La Liga and CL to accomplish the greatest feat in modern football. Media worldwide are in fits and flock Simeone - who declares "Manchester is my heaven" in the post match presser..:drool::drool:

I've missed the days where you had to watch a press conference or post match interview from behind your hands in case the manager loses the plot for no discernible reason

All reports and signs point to Wednesday calm down well have a fiery nutter in charge in no time.

Sorry, must have missed this. Why Wednesday?
I think he starts his world cup prep on may 7th.. Something about the Dutch Fa wanting this to be completed before 7th in the papers.. Not clear how true it is though..

Because it is apparently the deadline set by the KNVB before Van Gaal cuts his vacation short to go back to work with the national team. Still, I think it's absolutely ridiculous to wait for that long before confirming the man. People won't mind if Van Gaal is officially confirmed before that, even if it shadows everything else in the world of football.

Then City sack Pellegrini and hey presto, dream comes true.

Our Louis is at the Milan derby this evening with our Robin and Kevin Strootman.. make of that what you will.
