Who? Realistically?

Quick two-minute list:

  • Klopp
  • Simeone
  • Pochettino
  • Conte
  • Ancelotti
  • Frank de Boer
  • Heynckes
  • Bielsa
Then there's completely left-wing possibilities with the likes of Vitor Perreira, Montella, Tuchel etc. I'm not saying that they should be considered, but there's more appeal in those than in a 62-year-old coach who's skipped around Europe and caused hassle everywhere he's been. He'd be a van Persie lackey and I cannot bear our esteemed striker to have that much influence at Old Trafford considering the trouble he's caused this season. Throw in van Gaal's World Cup commitments until the middle of July, he'd be a catastrophic appointment.

I understand that we cannot afford another 'experiment' and we need to new man to hit the ground running immediately. That will surely bend the Glazers' ears, not to mention the fact that van Gaal will cost them no compensation money. Unfortunately, those are the type of owners we have making the decisions that matter. Money talks, especially with these lads.

One of the reasons you don't want LVG is because of his age and yet you want Heynckes.

You say LVG is confrontational yet want Bielsa. Amazing. You know Bielsea is more of a head case and has joined Marseille?

@nahealai 's defence of Moyes was quite mental. Completely deluded. Now here you are slating a manager who has won everything in the game, including winning the title with every club that he has managed.

We could go quote mining for players who have slagged off Fergie in the past and come up with quite a list, none more damning than the testimony of Roy Keane. More recently we have had Paul Pogba slating him. It is what happen in a competitive environment, you make enemies.

Van Gaal's teams play great football and he is a proven winner. Eccentric and entertaining to boot.

You can cry for dour Dave, his insipid football and magnolia personality. I will enjoy the Van Gaal experience.

Looks to be the favourite. I don't mind that he's a bit mental, that he could be controversial..our so called 'big players', Rooney and van Persie, could do with a rocket up their arse. My biggest problem is that he won't be able to start until after the World Cup.

How are Pochettino, Conte, de Boer and Bielsa better alternatives than van Gaal? A catastrophic appointment? Moyes was a catastrophic appointment. Van Gaal is, by some considerable distance, a batter manager than him. Klopp and Ancelotti are also extremely unlikely to be available and Heynckes has retired.

Does anyone what he is like in the transfer market, has he bought well and also does he like to promote youth players?

Klopp says he's not leaving, I doubt Simeone will too (and he can't speak English) Ancelotti is still Real manager, Heynckes is retired and Bielsa is close to joining Marseilles, not to mention the fact he's more mental than van Gaal. Pochettino is still green and after Moyes we're not going to take risks.

Conte and de Boer are the only 'realistic' alternatives you've listed, heck I don't think Conte's going anywhere either.

Moyes is also stubborn and confrontational yet I wanted him to remain. Means nothing.

As for your point about age, yes, van Gaal's (and Heynckes) go against them but at least Heynckes ticks every other box. van Gaal doesn't.

Bielsa hasn't signed a thing with Marseille yet. Roy Keane agreed to join Blackburn and Gascoigne agreed to sign for us once upon a time, don't you know?

He just makes it up as he goes along.

Van Gaal is too old. Yet wants Heynckes.

He's too confrontational yet wants Bielsa who has just joined Marseille.

I hope the avid supporters of Moyes afford our next manager, be it Van Gaal, the same luxury of support they afforded Moyes himself. This thread thus far indicates that they will judge him a hell of a lot more harshly. Surprising.

 Moyes is about as confrontational as an autistic seal

If we get this guy then I assume we are all going to be adopting the Dutch National team at the World Cup this year?

Can he start if The Netherlands are knocked out quickly? Ie they get out of the group stages, but fail to progress through the first knockout round.

You obviously have the comprehension levels of a primary school pupil. Absolutely no ability to infer somebody's point-of-view from reading their posts.

We're talking about van Gaal here and the package he brings:

  • Age against him? Check
  • Trouble-making? Check
  • Other commitments well into our pre-season? Check
I also never said I wanted Bielsa nor Heynckes. I just put their names forward as possible alternatives. Both also have their negatives (Heynckes' age and Bielsa's mental capacity) but that's it in terms of both of them. van Gaal ticks far more negative boxes than either of those do.

You genuinely have no concept of understanding other peoples' opinions, have you?

Why would sir bobby approve van gaal when he disproved mourinho? Say what you want about their decision to hire moyes, but I still want sir Alex and sir bobby to give their inputs into the hiring of a new manager. It's just that they go through a proper hiring process this time instead of just hiring someone on the basis of being Scottish and hard working.

Not even remotely true.

It's the anti-Moyes brigade who are immediately starting the comparisons with Moyes. I didn't mention his name until I was challenged on it.

Funny how these myths always start and gather pace, isn't it?

Our arrogance last Summer has created a season by which we can't really pick and choose. I said it yesterday, there will be both positives and negatives surrounding all rumoured names. Other than Van Gaal, Simeone is the only real alternative that is both talented and proven, yet he can't even speak English. Klopp is bound to Dortmund, we passed over Mourinho. Other than Van Gaal or Simeone, we're either relying on Madrid to sack Ancelotti or we're taking a punt on somebody like Martinez.

We're in a bit of a hole and nobody is going to be perfect other than a Ferguson clone. Well, we tried that option and it's gotten is nowhere. Van Gaal will make controversial and unpopular decisions, I may even disagree with many of them, but we need a bit of that, I feel.

He has an air of maverick about him, wouldn't have worked straight after Fergie. Now with the players having gone through Moyes, Van Gaal should be able to give them a kick up the arse. Slightly worried.

I'd imagine so, but I still think that's too late. We'd need a permanent appointment as soon as possible, as I imagine any deals will need to be approved and identified by the new manager. We can't have a repeat of last summer, it's so damaging, regardless of who the manager is.

I really, really dislike the idea of him becoming our manager.

He's a ticking time-bomb and will surely create havoc in the dressing-room. There's also an argument to be made that he's "yesterday's man", not to mention that he'll be tied up with Holland until the middle of July. We cannot afford another wasted summer, absolutely no way. The new man needs to be in place come the beginning of June, at the very latest.

Plenty of other/better alternatives out there.
Do you seriously think this Dutch side will make it that far? I'd be surprised if they make it past the last 16.

So, now that Moyes has gone, do we believe the Glazers have already met with van Gaal?

To be honest, mate, I don't. However, you can't make a managerial appointment on the hypothesis that Holland won't progress in the tournament. On one hand, best scenario for us would be for Holland to get knocked out in the groups, but does that bode well for van Gaal at United? I personally wouldn't be happy with that.

On the other side of the coin, in order to cement his status as a great coach, he'd lead Holland into the latter stages of the tournament, but as a result, misses the entire pre-season of United and doesn't get time to analyse our squad, decide who he wants out, who he wants to sign etc. and we begin the season in dire straits. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes - as a club - that we made last July and August.

Can you see where I'm coming from with this? van Gaal's World Cup commitments are just an unnecessary distraction and I think it's a major blot against him.

Getting Van Gaal will take a little of the shine off Moyes going as he's not the breath of fresh air I'd have hoped for, especially given the stuff I've read about him, I mean how is Mourinho worse in Sir Bobby's eyes? At any rate I could see it being a short term appointment that gets us back on our feet and into the top 4.

The more I read about this fella the more I like him. He seems mental but I think some of our players could do with a bit of mental in front of them when they under perform. Rooney would probably be f*cked if LVG came in.
