United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

At the moment, yes, but if Van Gaal's methods work with them then presumably they will become better.

Cleverley for instance, consensus seems to be he will work better in a midfield 3 and is generally quite a tidy player who showed glimpses of being good enough but has failed to kick on. Van Gaal may be able to develop him and would likely deploy him in a 3 across the middle. Thus negating the need to buy someone in.
Not a big fan of him (as my posts here say) but Cleverley will be a different player next season if we sign Van Gaal. Not world class or anything like that, but I can see him doing an upgrade on himself similar to Henderson did.

Even Martinez who at that point not won anything refused your offer. I'm sure you're now happy with 3rd choice.

Now, now Sultan. No wumming in this thread please...out of Martinez, Rodgers and Moyes who would I choose? Hmmm, let me get back to you. :p

It seems it's the club who are looking at alternatives rather than him not willing to commit.

This is more accurate I believe. We were looking at alternatives. Got Rodgers and it turned to be the correct decision to 'wait for him'.

He is not a long term option, but for short term he is excellent.

Who is a long term option with today's requirement for success? Who can guarantee it? All of the top managers can, but are they considered long-term managers?

:)

The Keane as his assistant story is bullshit, thats never going to happen in a million years in my opinion.
I agree. If SAF has even an iota of influence Keane will be nowhere near the job. Who would be pushing for it anyway? Van Gaal has the "bad cop" side of things pretty much sewn up, Giggs is on hand to play his foil, anything else would almost be a demotion. I cant imagine what anyone would think Keane brings to the table that those two between them dont have covered.

Although it's looking very likely that Van Gaal will indeed be our next manager, I'm still feeling very nervous and want an announcement as soon as possible but most likely it won't happen before the end of the season. :( I just hope we get it right and manage to plan well and strengthen well before the start of next season under a manager who will take us forward and modernize our play.

Papers are saying van Gaal with Roy Keane as assistant. How to scare away transfer targets.

Actually I think it would be different. The players that are willing to work hard and do not have the big egos etc. and know that they are in his plans will be extremely attracted. Or what kind of players do you want to have?

Can anybody tell me why Chelsea were never linked with Van Gaal?

At the moment we appear to have plenty of the opposite. Van Gaal would certainly shake things up a bit (even more so if Keane is in tow).

Why because we failed under Moyes' outdated spam-sandwiches tactics are we suddenly labelled a team of big egos and slackers?

For anyone who hasn't seen it, check out this van Gaal interview:

he literally says himself that he will either work in the Premier League or retire, he doesn't want to go anywhere else. The United job is absolutely perfect for him, I can't imagine that he doesn't want it at all

It just all seems to be pointing towards Van Gaal atm, Im definitely warming to that idea.

Glad I called this crazy Dutch bastard back at the beginning of February. By far the best shout out of any realistic options back then. Will be great for us to get us back on track although Ancelotti would be unreal too if it's true he could leave now.

not so sure about van gaal. Football-wise i would prefer someone like klopp, although lvg could be the right man to steady the ship.

Not only has Moyes convinced the world that our squad has no talent, but he has also managed to convince many people that Man United football club and its players are evil.

Just watching this video of him, he says he usually always plays 4-3-3 and always looks to keep continuity of coaching staff when he joins a club

Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but does anybody think Welbeck would absolutely flourish under van Gaal? Hard worker, very good close control and short passing, fast as feck. I think he'd be a nailed down started in his 433 and be quality.

Yup. I literally think Welbeck will be Louis Müller. And Müller always plays.

All the young players could flourish under Van Gaal, which is why he is the stand out candidate. He's not afraid to drop big egos.

I'm certain if Welbeck could improve on his finishing you will be hard pressed to find a manager who wouldn't play him . His composure in front of goal is the only thing stopping him from exploding imo.

The Times are reporting that Conte and Blanc have been in touch with United to express interest.

Conte would introduce wing-backs, something I've been dreaming of for 3 or 4 years now and something I think we're well equipped to try. Still a bit risky. I was thinking about Blanc as a candidate recently but I think PSG will want to keep him for one more year. Similar to Conte, not the most experienced of managers. We wouldn't know exactly what to expect. A bit risky. Ancelotti is staying as Madrid (unfortunately) are going to reach the final and probably win it. That will be enough for Perez, even if they finish 3rd in the league (I think they'll be runners-up).

Van Gaal is the safest option of those available, though, and I'll be glad if we appoint him. We need a safe bet to steady the ship, his attacking mentality can only help.

I don't think this is a sort of job we're accepting applications for. If you've had to call us to apply - there's a reason for that.

Welbeck is a very good player and great tactically but he lacks the 'football intelligence' Muller has. Not a shame on that, I think that Muller is probably the best in the world on that. If Welbeck will become a starter under Van Gaal, I think it will be more like a left forward rather than a number 10/number 9.5. I am not sure that he'll be a definite starter though, most likely it will be between him and Shijni Kagawawa until one of them performs significantly better than the other.

As we can already rule out options of signing Klopp, Pep or Jose we can make it happen for Van Gaal and give him enough funds to replace all lazy ass, talentless spastics who earn around 100k and do nothing. He got balls and authority to incorporate serious changes and club needs someone who'll take the steer and hold everything in one piece while controlling all other things like transfers and youth system. Ancelotti comes to mind as that kind of experienced and strong character but Van Gaal may suit a bit more to United. (Experience and character close to Fergie's)

In the first days of May maybe we'll have more than one serious candidate for the job, but right now Van Gaal is the safest bet and even Manchester Evening news says he's ready to step up to challenge.

I dont necessarily mean its my choice just that he seems most likely. However, I think he would be a good bet having read/watched all the stuff about him.

I'm just not convinced about Blanc. I was pretty unimpressed by his French team and his work at PSG will have a question mark due to the vast sums he has to spend. His big chance to impress was the tie against Chelsea and in that second leg his negative tactics cost them. I think with both PSG and France he has shown a tendency to run out of ideas very quickly.

Conte would be good but I think Van Gaal's footballing philosophy fits more with United than Antonio's.

Klopp remains the ideal.

Conte is an interesting option and one which potentially offers long term prospects. But does he have the commanding presence that will be needed to get us back up to speed? I don't know much about him.

As for players that might flourish under van Gaal, I think Mata is a good pick. Rooney might get sidelined though.

Conte has done poor in Europe. Failing to qualify from the group they were in this season was awful. He's done well in Serie A but they clearly have the best side in the league. I'm also not convinced by this 352 he loves to play, can't say I'm convinced it will work here. I might come across negative about him here, he's a good manager but I wouldn't want him to be honest.
