United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

It is definitely genuine, we've met with him, he's mentioned us by name as one of the PL jobs he'd be interested in and quite a few of the Dutch football people seem to think he's seriously considering it or has already decided to do it (then again, if they talk as much shit as our ones do, probably means nothing).

I think he's most likely waiting to see what could come up this summer. Quite a few big jobs could open up.

The only thing that keeps me slightly optimistic is that I'm certain Ferguson still has a lot of influence at the club and I'm not sure he'd like a manager so different from himself and Moyes or a manager who, as good as he is, tend to leave after 2/3 seasons having caused some tension when he's spent decades at Man Utd.
Sir Alex committed cardinal sin in power mechanics by not only picking but backing a loser and the club has paid dearly for that blunder . As unimaginable as it may sound he will pay for it too, sooner rather than later .

If Klopp is unattainable then LVG wouldn't be a bad choice.

He has am abrasive personality and I doubt the board will enjoy working with him. But atleast United will be good to watch again. At this point I don't care as much about trophies as restoring the joy in watching the team play.

Also LVG does have a good trophy winning record and will command instant respect in the dressing room.

Some points from Sid Lowe's book of interest - (I'll update it as I listen)

Positive:
- He played an attractive brand of football, based on his time at Ajax
- He was instructed to bed in young talent, he gave debuts to Iniesta, Puyol, Valdes, Pepe Reina and Thiago Motta
- Iniesta says his generation are very thankful for his contribution
- Real Madrid never won the league when he was manager
- In three seasons he won 3 trophies, 2 league titles and a Copa Del Rey
- Tactically astute.

Negative:
- He fell out with the fans "Barcelona aren't as big a team as people in Catalonia think"
- The press hated him
- Authoritarian rule over the club, he was seen as almost too aggressive
- Fell out with the big players, half the dressing room was against him.
- When he left, the players practically threw a party
- Fell out with Stoichkov & Rivaldo, important players.
- "He was a brilliant coach on the training pitch, but hard to get on with"

Van Gaal also fell out with the Bayern bosses and the results didn't come anymore. Not an easy person to get along with but could bring stability for 2-3 years until we have a "proper" replacement

Let's say Moyes is sacked tomorrow, what is the reason for not hiring him now, allowing him a few games to test the players out?

He's taking Netherlands to the world cup, ffs.

He is not a easy guy and a little bit mental, but his positives are exactly what we need right now and I think it would outshine the negatives easily. Yeah he fell out with the Bayern bosses at the end, but his changes and his short time there was still so instrumental for their current team. Maybe 4-5 years would be too much, but I don't expect him to be that long here anyway. I am confident he would be a briliant choice for at least the next 2 seasons and he will build great foundations for our future. I don't think world cup will be that problem, wouldn't be surprised if he is already looking at our squad and thinking about what he could do with it. Not every coach waits till 1st July to start his job.

But let him just try out the old Trafford seat and see if it's comfortable.

Don't really want him

Would have to wait until after the WC (something which hindered Moyes coming in late on).

Would sooner a younger more modern manager personally. We need to make this choice perfect.

Get 2-3 years out of him before appointing one of Pep, Klopp or even Mourinho.

I want Klopp, if I can't get Klopp I'll settle for Van Gaal to take over the realm and get things in order so we can go in for Klopp again as soon as he becomes available (which will be in 2018 I guess).

I expect the announcement to come at around 11pm

Weird, now the change is finally happening I'll be gutted if it's not Klopp. He's perfect! Preparing for disappointment.

If Van Gaal is appointed, I fear Rooney will not get a sniff at a starting spot unless RVP is injured or tired. :( Van Gaal will always prefer a player like Mata or Kagawa in the number 10 position if he plays with 1 striker and saying it by his own words, he hates coaching a bunch of primadonnas.

Klopp just signed a long-term deal with Dortmund. Unless he wants to come and we're ready to pay over 20m for him, it won't happen.

Going by Sid Lowe's book, he doesn't have a history of bonding with the dressing room. More or less the whole Barca team had fallen out with him by the end.

Yeah, didn't like the fact that players never took to his philosophy on football.

He'd fall out with Rooney, I'm 100% sure of that. Vidic is already leaving, Ferdinand and Evra will probably leave as well so I don't think there are any other major personalities in the dressing room who he'd have a major clash with.

If the Glazers keep up with their hands off approach, I don't think he'd have too many problems with them. Unfortunately, I think they might want to be a bit more involved after the way this season has gone.

To be fair, that Barca team was full of cnuts and individuals bought only for their talent rather than their talent+personality. If there's one legacy from the Fergie era, it's that we have players who will fight for someone they respect. I bet that even Rivaldo's own mum hates him.

Waiting until mid-July to have him actually at the club is quite arguably too big a risk to take given we go on tour three days after the World Cup ends. You would think that the rumours about sounding him out are true if we're to eventually hire him.

I agree, we could do with a strong manager, the only problem could be Rooney, but I really don't care about him, if he wants to act again like a primadonna he can go and can try to find a team, which pays him only anything similiar to us. He needs someone who gives him a asskick sometimes, the situation with Moyes and him is a joke.

Perfect

Let Rooney earn his way into the team instead of being picked by default. I wouldn't be too concerned if he chose to get rid of him altogether.

How many of the current squad will be available for tour? We will have 10-13 players going to the world cup. Its a tricky situation no matter who we get.

I couldn't care less if Rooney's nose is put out of joint. His reported wages are so out of proportion to his quality on the pitch it's not even funny.

I'd rather pay £25m and get Klopp with a £175m budget than give £200m to Moyes.

Everyone has their price. Plus we aren't going to have an annual jumble sale of our squad to which only Bayern Munich are invited.

Aloysius Paulus Maria van Gaal seems the obvious choice considering the prior speculation and the other variables in the current elite manager market.
