Jose does not have problems with van Gaal. As much as I know they often phone with each other...

Heavy breathing & death-threats maybe?

So he can't start work until after the WC....

That is a big damper
Yeah it was one of the negatives I had about hiring him. But I guess he can still have a say in our signings, and he can brief Giggs and co on initial training while he is at the WC.

I don't see how this ends well. Van Gall isn't a good fit for United at all and it's blatantly clear that zero thought or planning has been put into choosing him.

It's embarassing.
You may not like him, but he looks to be the best possible choice with all of Mourinho, Pep, Klopp and Ancelotti unavailable. In fact, I think that only the first three are better than him anyway. And likely only Pep, Mourinho and Del Bosque are more decorated than him.

What makes you think they will be retained?

I'm absolutely delighted with the Van Gaal appointment...It's a win win situation.....Van Gaal is everything Moyes was not..he will bring
- Beautiful attacking football and incredible experience, speaking many languages too
- an ability to get Van Persie happy and banging them in
- Will probably sign some up and coming Dutch wonderkids for knock down prices and dutch players have always excelled at OT
- Will take no crap and will not think twice to turf out anyone that is not good enough or too old such as Fellaini, Young, Evra etc
- Will be a great mentor for our backroom staff who one of may one day take over from him in the hot seat

LVG is a great manager, the issue I have is would be good to other options too. Don't want another Hobson's choice type of scenario like DM......

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manchester United have told Sky Sports they have not signed a deal with Louis van Gaal, or anyone else, to become their new manager.

A newspaper report in Holland on Saturday morning said the Dutch national coach had agreed terms to take over at Old Trafford at the end of their World Cup campaign later this summer.

But a United spokesman said: "There is nothing to report.

"We have not signed a new manager. When we have something to report, we will announce it."

Yep, they have very good relations. Van Gaal made Jose the manager he is today, by upgrading his position on Barca from translater to assistant manager.

Thats one of the reasons i didnt want him, but we're running out of options now. The club are perfectly entitled to push through any deals that we had in place - the one's that they agree are top-class of course. The alleged list of players Moyes had been lookin at - would grace most of the top teams, so its a no brainer that they get the deals done anyway & inform LvG that we cant wait til mid-July!

How the hell do we conclude transfer business before the WC?

After the WC, prices will skyrocket

He's got a fearsome reputation but has a sense of humour about it as well....

I like him. I think he's a great appointment.

Parody view to further the caricature of him, but yeah, he is a crazy guy.
£100m and he'll be looking at the German league? *Toni Kroos intesifies*
I just hope we have conferred with him about the targets and start signing.

That is a bit of a problem, you have to wonder where our seeming bids for Carvalho and Shaw are in all of this.

But you could also look at the team and say those two would be obvious choices to slot into the first team of any manager. If we offer the right salary the players won't mind, you can just tickle their pride by saying "Oh you're saying you can't win a place under LVG?"

If I'm not mistaken about what you are thinking, van Gaal won't be needed to conclude any transfers. I assume that the club has one or two targets (Shaw/Kroos?? Whoever) that are already targeted and will be brought in regardless of the manager. Then I'd assume that van Gaal will brief Woodward on a few names he would like to bring in, then the CEO will get to work while the manager is at the World Cup.

That's true. When jose left there was a small gap before ancelloti took over. Apparently perez and carlo were talking about targets in that time and ancelloti approved of isco and bale and the other signings. here is no reason united wont do the same.

Clubs & Managers have player deals sorted all the time before major championships - we've just been feckin useless at it over the years!

Chicharito deal was sorted before the last WC - thats the only one i can think of relatin to United!

Prices could be reduced if our targets have had a poor show at the WC. We need to get as many agreements in place before the WC & thats what the club have been tryin to do, so they're on the same page as me & most fans!

Get in, hope it's true. Even if this guy only stays for 2-3 years he would fix our long term future.

Ppl getting worried about captain

Who cares? It's Manchester United not Wayne United.

Doesn't his dutch team have 3 captains? For all we know he could make Evra 1., Carrick 2. and a young player 3. captain. But if he thinks RvP or Rooney are the right choice then fine, who cares?

Exactly. The club is bigger than waitin around for any new manager coming in to pick up scraps near the end of July. "These are the players we've spent time on & we're not missin out on them.."

Moyes apparantly passed up on nailing deals for Strootman, Thiago & Garay because they werent his choices & United gave him the yay or nay option. Those three would quite possibly have transformed our season!

Do they? I think that RVP is the captain with Strootman being vice captain. On Bayern it was Lahm with Schweinsteiger.

I doubt that Kroos intensifies. I do not think that Kroos has everything to be a preferred target of van Gaal. Kroos was given to van Gaal as a talent to build in - and he for sure tried - but we somehow doubted Kroos' willingness to really adapt to the plans. Like before when he shied out of playing parttime in Bayern's U23 with Hermann Gerland who is told to be very demanding. Kroos then wanted to be a no. 10 - and van Gaal did not see him there as he just lacked the dynamic for that position - and he saw him deeper in a no. 6/8 position. That did not really work out 3 years ago - but since then 3 years are gone.

There is a lot great talents in the German league right now - and as van Gaal still follows every Bayern match he for sure knows what happens in the league. Could be that he has an eye on some of the young ones - some should not be that expansive but could be really van Gaal material.

--------

At Bayern it was van Bommel - but he was already captain before van Gaal arrived. Only when he wanted to bench van Bommel and let Kroos and Gustavo play - and both of them got into a fight over it and van Bommel left - Lahm and Schweinsteiger took over.

And the captain of the Netherlands is Robben - van Persie is second. The one who made the votes for the Ballon d'Or was Robben...

You aren't set up for that though. Who decides who is worth buying and for how much?

I know Moyes was bad and all, but this is basically the very antithesis of how United understood itself to work - The manager being in full control.

Badly implemented antithesis too. You're gonna need a Director of Football to pull off something like this.

Not sure if true, but RvP is definitely captain, after that I heard somewhere that Robben is vice captain and Strootman 3. captain (maybe a third captain was chosen because both RvP and Robben are a bit of a sick note).

Hah, yeah, I'm just teasing. I'm sure it won't happen.
As for German league talents - who are you thinking? I know Ginter has been a name tossed around a lot, he seems technically adept with the ability to play DM and CB. One of the Benders, perhaps? Goreztka? Tah? Any good wingers? Help me out, here!

Fergie, Gill & Ed (and Ed's team) can sort all that out. All the works been done from what we hear - apart from signing the deals...

Cant wait around til mid-July to start a whole new process of identifyin players - thats just suicide... again!

The Manager is in full control when he takes over - LvG wont be our manager (if at all) until his contract runs out!

I saw these names being thrown around; apologies if they were already mentioned here:

Kluivert as assistant
Frans Hoek as GK coach
Van Dijk as psychologist
Max Reckers as video analyst

I would find that hilarious. Ferguson basically undermining the managerial institution he championed so much himself by acting as a kind of shadow DoF.

according to goal.com, united and van gaal have agreed terms, but the contract has not being signed yet.

http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/

De Telegraaf is going all out on their Van Gaal story. Their 3 top articles on their sports page are all about Van Gaal. €100m does seem like a very low budget if he wants to buy 4 players as stated in one of articles. :( That's like £80m. Someone like Kroos would cost over £30m.
