United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

I didn't say he should get the U21 job, I said it would be little different to running a B team. Unless you're saying that B teams never have an incumbent manager?

I know what you're saying, mostly, but the U21s league is pretty competitive, and should give the chance to develop a style of play a little more desirable than dealing with League 1 cloggers, IMO.

Is there any reason an U21 team would have a particularly higher churn than a B team?
I didn't mean it directly toward you. Just seen many people say oh give Giggs or Scholes the youth teams. So wondering what they plan on doing with Joyce and the others currently running the youth sides,

It is somewhat competitive and experience there would certainly be better than no experience but I don't think it is as good as the real thing. I don't know the specifics of B teams in other nations but I'm assuming as it is a proper team in a proper lower league they have a registered squad. At the moment with our U21s there is players going in and out on loan all the time. With a B team it would reduce the amount sent out. I think with a B team you would have a regular group of players to rely on and have a much better chance to develop a style of play. Look at the U21s at the start of the season and look now and a large portion of the side is different.

Louis van Gaal turns players against him, claims Manchester City chief Ferran Soriano

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has sparked a potential row with neighbours United after claiming their prospective new coach Louis van Gaal has a habit of turning players against him.

United are on the verge of agreeing terms with Dutch veteran Van Gaal and hope to confirm him as the long-term replacement for David Moyes next Wednesday.

However, City’s Spanish chief executive Soriano — who worked at one of Van Gaal’s former clubs Barcelona — believes the 62-year-old is a confrontational coach who risks alienating players wherever he works.

Bold claim: Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano said Louis van Gaal turns players against him

Soriano said: ‘If you treat your people badly, they remember. One day you make an error and they kill you. I’ve seen this in many clubs.

‘Louis van Gaal has been a very good coach in many clubs but his style is very difficult. The same thing happened to him in Barcelona as in Bayern Munich.

‘He is very tough, people don’t like him, but he wins. And one day you don’t win — and when you don’t win, everybody that is angry with you will come back to you and try to kill you.

‘In the movies this works, in real life it doesn’t.’

Van Gaal, currently coach of the Holland national team, had two spells at Barcelona. His second ended when he was sacked in January 2003. Soriano joined the club later that year and stayed until 2008.

Soriano made his comments at a conference in March, before he knew about United’s interest in Van Gaal. He added: ‘Before you decide how to manage your team, decide what they need.

‘Do you need to be more direct? Do you need to delegate more? Do you need to be more of a coach? Are you able to manage people? How much do you know about your job? How can you be a leader if you don’t manage people well and don’t know what you are talking about?’

Soriano also said in his 2012 book Goal: The Ball Doesn’t Go In By Chance: ‘Louis van Gaal has won titles with different teams, big and small, and he’s thought to have little empathy and social skills.

‘I couldn’t help but smile when I heard Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich’s [then] technical director, explain why Van Gaal wouldn’t continue to coach the Bavarian team: “Van Gaal doesn’t listen, it has to be whatever he says”.

‘It seems his reputation is justified.’

Basically, because he is so harsh/arrogant, if he wins-then no one says anything. If he loses, the players will blame him in every little thing.

This is not right, we should win and lose as a team. We all know this will end badly, but is the success in the next few years will outweigh the evident fall out?

On that Soriano interview, this was in the Telegraph:

It should be noted that Soriano’s incendiary observations on the divisive nature of United’s new manager were given to a football and government summit in the United Arab Emirates last month, well before David Moyes’s sacking and long before it became clear that Van Gaal was Manchester-bound.

Can't wait for his press conferences. Hope disco mirror has the balls to leak team news next season

Fellaini will be sold. Van Gaal will have no place for him at all. Neither technically good enough, nor does he possess the physical speed required for his system.

All those listing Kagawa left in a 433 - forget that as well.

Man city can feck off.

Besides, it is only a 2 year contract. I am sure United have taken everything into consideration. Even if it goes bad, we will have some success along the way, and then in 2 years, Ryan Giggs can take over. If it goes well, than he can stay longer and everyone is happy. It is a win win situation.

Some of the journos have already said that LvG threw them out of a hotel once years ago. Physically threw them out I mean.

From The Telegraph article

Van Gaal’s coronation as United manager is days away, although the thorny issue of what happens to interim coach Ryan Giggs has yet to be resolved.

Can't bloody wait!

We don't know anything of the sort. It's rare to find a character that "everybody dislikes" (according to who...? Oh, City's chief exec!) - just becase he's fallen out with other people is no guarantee this will happen at Old Trafford.

Look how somebody like Cantona, dismissed as an erratic trouble maker elsewhere, fitted in at United.

Mourinho could look like a buddhist monk next season.

I am hoping for a few fireworks, as long as it is nothing that harms the club in any way of course.

He will look like a saint in comparison. I've lost count how many times he just destroyed journalists. If his social skills were better he'd be one of the best managers ever. But for 2 years to lay a good foundation he's perfect.

He'd get more control here than at Bayern or Barca too.

I recall him saying how he was jealous of Ferguson and how our club is structured.

I'm looking forward to seeing that. Journos are mostly a shower of preverbials, so I'd quite like to see him in action.

I remember him making stupid substitutes and playing 4 forwards against Ireland in 2001, It was idiotic. Helped us win.

Other than that im happy if we get him!!! Agree on the Fellaini comments if he does get the job. He'll ditch him quick smart.

Let's be clear though there are many players that have said that they loved working under Van Gaal. The AZ players even asked him to stay on when he was considering leaving.

I think the biggest danger is that similarly to Bayern and Barca, we have club stalwarts that will not enjoy Van Gaal domineering and dismissing their thoughts on philosophy and so on.

Moyes was like a fart in the bathtub, this could be nuclear!

It will be entertaining anyway, on and off the pitch.

I wonder if Van Gaal will force him to get a hair cut?

No he wont ditch Fellaini.

If I recall correctly wasnt there a whole power struggle going on with the Netherlands at that time?I remember there was a few factions

Which is why we need Giggs to remain in the staff so that he can learn from Van Gaal and then combine it with SAF's style when he takes over.

What Manchester United could expect from Louis Van Gaal as their manager
These four key aspects of the Dutchman's coaching style would define a potential new reign at Old Trafford

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ect-from-Louis-Van-Gaal-as-their-manager.html

He places great importance on intelligence and favours players he believes to be the smartest.

That's Mata and Kagawa in then. And Young and Fellaini sent to the Dog and Duck FC.

He also springs the odd surprise, as his former Bayern Munich players will confirm: Van Gaal exposed his genitals to them as part of a team-talk.

Sounds like a mentalist.

Van Gaal is a coach known for his strength of mind and also for his inflexibility. He will understand the emotional appeal of Giggs. He will understand that offering a club icon a prominent role on his staff would represent sound PR. He is not, however, the type of coach who will do it if he doesn’t think it will benefit him on the coaching field.

Some supporters will ask why United do not offer Van Gaal the job on the condition that he keeps Giggs - at least. Across town at Manchester City, for example, Brian Kidd has now worked as a coach under three managers.

Woodward, however, is adamant that United’s new manager is given carte blanche to do things his own way. The chief executive would very much like Giggs to be incorporated prominently in the set-up but it will not be allowed to become a sticking point in negotiations.

In some way or another, a line of continuity should remain. Neville - part of Moyes’s regime - is not expected to stay. Butt, though, is likely to return to his work with the Under 18s and Scholes may be given the opportunity to go with him. The only thing that may stand in the way of that is their pride.

This week the mood among the Class of 92 has darkened a little. They don’t like the uncertainty or the lack of clarity. Last week, walking along the touchline ahead of the game against Norwich, they were central figures in a fairytale narrative.

The reality of United’s new dawn - and their part in it - is rather less romantic.

THE MEN WHO COULD COME IN UNDER LOUIS VAN GAAL:

PATRICK KLUIVERT - First team coach - Age 37

Legendary Dutch striker who shot to fame as a member of Van Gaal’s European Cup-winning side with Ajax in 1995, when he scored the winning goal against AC Milan in the final at the age of 18.
He teamed up again with his mentor at Barcelona in 1998.

Following his retirement in 2008, Kluivert was recruited by Van Gaal to coach his strikers at AZ Alkmaar, and then appointed as an assistant when he took charge of the Dutch national team in 2012.

FRANS HOEK - Goalkeeping coach - Age 57

One of Van Gaal’s longest-serving and most trusted lieutenants, the former FC Volendam goalkeeper has worked at Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Dutch national team, and has overseen the development of the likes of Edwin van der Sar, Pepe Reina and Victor Valdes. Hoek has written various books on the training methods of goalkeepers.

JOS VAN DIJK - Physiotherapist - Age 57

Another senior member of Van Gaal’s backroom team who has worked with him in Spain, Germany and Holland, and is trusted with full responsibility for the medical department.

MAX RECKERS - Chief analyst - Age 34

The Dutchman first worked with Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar and then followed his boss to Bayern Munich, where he spent the next two years as his chief anaylst, a role he has subsequently carried out for the Dutch national team under Van Gaal since 2012.

This was in the Mail article about Ryan Giggs staying on. Giggs is waiting to be offered a role, but he wants a role where he will be involved a lot, and a role which will help him improve.

Only way he could really get on my nerves right from the beginning if he doesn't rate Mata. Don't care about the rest but he has to play Mata

Opposing managers will be careful about what they say to the press about us. Van Gaal will not let anything go unanswered.

Didn't Pellegrini say something about Man City being the only club in Manchester? Van Gaal's response would have been classic.

All Moyes said was that we aspired to be like them.
