United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Next week is fine, finish this season and draw a line under it and in a couple of years time we can imagine it never happened.

Love that RVP "trust me", he's absolutely buzzing with excitement and anticipation of what's to come

Avoid announcing it so we can focus on our last, utterly meaningless game, so that when we announce it the Holland team can be distracted while preparing for their very meaningful tournament. Doesnt sound like the most sensible approach to me but what do I know.

Its all but a done deal now folks!!!

Sky sources understand that an official announcement from Manchester United confirming Louis van Gaal as the club's next manager is not expected this week.
Reports circulated on Tuesday that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager could be rubber-stamped as David Moyes' successor as early as Wednesday.
But Sky Sports News reporter James Cooper believes United fans may have to wait until next week for a formal announcement confirming the 62-year-old's appointment.
"I think it's a case of when not if, but that 'when' may be a little longer in the future than perhaps we imagined on Tuesday," he said.
"Certainly the information throughout the day was that there might be an appointment today (Wednesday), which coincides with Louis van Gaal taking charge of the Netherlands squad at a training camp this afternoon.
"The received information now is that Manchester United are very relaxed about the situation but we might not get an announcement rubber-stamping Louis van Gaal's appointment as Manchester United manager until perhaps as late as next week.
"He's the man Manchester United want. They have sounded out other candidates but Louis van Gaal is going to be Manchester United's next manager.
"I think Manchester United, quite understandably, want to get this season out of the way. It's been a disappointing season and next week they will unveil Louis van Gaal as their new manager."

It's weird, I mean why leak all those stories then? Everyone in the media is talking about it anyway, so just announce it already ffs!

Yep, we are as relaxed as mid table clubs usually are, nothing to win, nothing to lose, nothing to play for :D:(

This all stinks of Ander Herrera, I believe three representatives have boarded a flight to Hollands training camp.

"Louis van Gaal arrived for the start of the Netherlands' pre-World Cup training camp at a secluded hotel near the small Dutch town of Hoenderloo early on Wednesday, but refused to answer my questions regarding how he felt about becoming the next manager of Manchester United.

"The coach will oversee a training session here later today and is due to hold a news conference on Wednesday next week, by which time his appointment will have been confirmed.

"The Netherlands have friendlies against Ecuador, Ghana & Wales in the coming weeks before heading to Brazil, and Van Gaal will want to avoid distractions. However he must now also plot how to turn around the fortunes of the Premier League's most successful club and how to spend a transfer budget estimated to be about £200m."

Ahhhh so that's why United are delaying LVG's announcement!.......Gary Monk is due to announced as permanent Swansea manager in the next 48 hours. United don't want to be over-shadowed by the Swans!

frig sake, just announce it already and we can move on.

I'm getting really excited about this!

A manager who knows what exactly what he wants from the players, by all accounts a top, top trainer who has a history of nurturing youth. Someone who doesn't take shit to boot. Sounds perfect.

We must however be prepared for a slow start, I hope we can be patient with Van Gaal.

Seriously, the whole world knows that he is coming. Even those monks up in Tibet when asked to pray for United replied "It's OK Van Gaal is coming".

Just announce the damn thing.

What difference does it make when the club announces it.We all know it's probably likely to happen

Maybe out of respect of Giggs as he is the manager now?

What difference would it make if they hold the announcement back?

Announce it now, get the interviews out of the way and let him concentrate on the world cup.

I can't help but want him to win the World Cup, even if it means him starting work with us later.

Around what date are our squad usually due back for pre season training, out of interest? I realise it will be different this summer for everyone with internationals and everything... Surely he wont be missing a lot?

This really is getting odd now. Every report is about how we'll wait till so and so date/week to announce. I don't see the sense it holding back the announcement if the deal is done? Maybe it's not as certain as it's made out to be.

Usually middle of the first week of July they come back for tests, then second week they start training.

Absolutely. Loads of players wont be back until late themselves, and then dont they usually get a couple of weeks rest after a tournament? I dont think Van Gaal will be missing anything hugely important even if he is in Brazil right till the bitter end.

Hmmm... I guess it depends on whether or not he can actively participate in transfers while he's still in charge of Holland. If that's all on hold until he officially takes the reins, then the sooner the Dutch are out of the tournament the better.

I wonder on what % of transfers the player actually gets to speak to the manager before he (provisionally) signs, or it takes a talk with the manager to convince him to join.

I'm sure we'll give it our best shot to sign up the targets identified without him able to speak to the players.

There's definitely examples of players who say they were finally convinced to join a particular club only after talking to the manager (Ramsey to Arsenal is a good - and annoying - example) Talking to potential new signings aside, I presume the manager has to sign off whatever offer is made. Which will be tricky from Brazil.

Our greatest midfielder of the last 20 years Roy Keane.

Virtually signed for Blackburn until Fergie invited him around for a game of snooker...

I dont know if that is necessarily the case. Im hoping Van Gaal and Woodward will have talked at length about our squad, where we need to reinforce and who we should go after. That should be enough to be getting on with. If any or all of those avenues prove to be dead ends then Van Gaal will have some time to look at it when he gets back.

If talking to the manager is going to sway anyone, who's to say watching that manager take his team to the semis or the final of the WC wont impress them just as much? Conversely, what is Van Gaal going to say to any prospective targets that will outweigh that player having watched him guide Holland to an early exit?

As Ive said before, I always support Holland in tournaments anyway so Im probably just rationalising.

Could be they don't want the new manager to be associated with this season. You can just imagine first game, we get beat by Southampton and media go into overdrive.

I would like to see it announced on Monday, after the season has ended for us. I can't believe it is not a done deal.

He won't be in charge. He'll just be appointed. So it won't make a difference.

Im fairly certain Woodward and Van Gaal have already talked targets and its now up to Woody to deliver. This would also include the players that we had progressed under Moyes i.e. Shaw. Van Gaal will have been given the choice on whether to complete these deals.

I suspect Shaw will be signed....Carvalho wont be.

It's a little strange that Mark Ogden (who is considered pretty reliable) got it wrong, saying it would be yesterday/today.

Does this mean that Van Gaal is off the table till after the World Cup? Or is this a done deal, with the club holding off the announcement until after the season?

There's no substantial news about other candidates for the job. Van Gaal is still the safest and most solid bet.

The matter of week or a few days doesn't really matter to this point but it would be definitely better for the club and supporters to know the truth. Probably multiple amount of conversations already occurred between the club and their 'chosen option'. It should be all set now.

Perhaps on the next press conference Giggsy will announce something as he also need to know his future and a next role.

No it isn't. We've been told for a while now by reliable journalists that it'll be van Gaal. The delay just seems strange, especially when various names keep getting thrown up such as Guardiola and Ancelotti. The consensus among the decent journos seemed to be he was waiting to see if Ancelotti lost the semi-final, then rumours we were waiting if there as a backlash against Guardiola. I don't think speculating on whether we're delaying the completing of the deal on the outcome of some other external circumstance is at all unreasonable.

But you're speculating that it's Woodward that is dithering when it's much more likely that we are allowing Giggs to finish his allotted four games as interim manager with no distractions and without having to answer questions about his future.
