Our activity in the transfer market better not be the same as this mess. At this rate we'll end up signing Shaw just before he starts claiming his pension.

When is the Ecuador friendly then?

And after the friendly there will be the 1st WC game, so then the announcement will be delayed again?

Does it really matter, this is nailed on and it's not like he can do anything anyway. Since the delay appears to be the friendly on Saturday, does anyone know if it's on the gogglebox?

It's not really a "mess". Just because it's not been announced, doesn't mean it's not already official ie he's signed his contract. Even if he hasn't, like I said in an earlier post, he will be working with Woody/Giggs to have everything set up for when he does take the reins after the WC.

You guys need to chill. The deal is obviously done if Giggs has gone as far as flying out to Holland to chat with him.

Just because we have not "officially" announced it yet, he will be our manager. I don't see why people get so panicky.

Aye, he is the one person that has been spot on about us of late. I wonder if the meeting with giggs didn't go as smooth as hoped?

That would odd after all the reports said the meeting went well. I wonder what contract issues are though.

if he is the man then better make it happen as soon as possible.

and then get woody to go and get all the transfer targets.

Jesus there are some impatient people in this thread. It's been delayed by a few days, so what?
Indeed. Even if he does sign today, it's not like he'll be relieved by Holland to come and start working here immediately.

Things are clearly moving and he's nailed on to sign up.

It's so funny seeing people actually believe so many of these journalists on the announcement date. They've been saying "tomorrow" or "next week" for about three weeks now. When said date comes it's "just some issues to iron out, sorted in a couple of days!". They'll say that until they finally get it right.

It's also interesting that no one seems to know if Giggs agreed to join LVG.

Nothing to worry about - it would have been a private conversation. I find it funny that the newspapers appear to "understand" what was said in the meeting. "It is understood that..."

Wouldn't be surprised if that is one of the sticky points being discussed with LvG right now.

That was my thinking too, but it's most likely nothing major.

Yup, it's funny that some of them know what was talked about in the meeting but they don't know if he took up the role. Maybe there are some doubts? United like to brief the press and if Giggs took up the role I would've thought they would have informed them.

Better to solve all issues now than have to put up with all the "drama" during the season: "They didn't give me the money to sing players, the squad is not good enough and i couldn't bring in the players i wanted, look how much Chelsea and City have spent, the players don't believe in the manager, Rooney's pissed cause he's not captain, etc."

It's a good thing that Giggs went to meet him in person, i believe there's a symbolism there especially now that Rio, Vidic and possibly Evra are gone. If Giggs becomes assistant manager, it'll be a clear indication, at least to me, that the vast majority in the dressing room have faith in the new manager and are willing to work with him and adapt his footballing philosophy.

And the fact that LvG himself is being so thorough and wants to clear out every possible "gray area" regarding the final deal, shows how much he wants to come to England and manage Manchester United. Calm down people.

Rubbish, that it's all agreed re Giggs - I heard on TalkSport

:D

Are you implying that TalkSport actually talk about sport in between the adverts for half price white emulsion and transit vans?

Wow. I've been living a lie all this time.

And that fecking tradepoint advert

It's funny, he wants to avoid distractions to the WC but you just the English press will be there asking him about United during the WC.

And that fecking tradepoint advert

Is that what they're singing? I thought it was just a bunch of BNP skinheads on their way to a West Ham game.

This can't be good for the Dutch national side, you'd think LvG and the Dutch FA would want this wrapped ASAP to keep his focus on the world cup. Having these talks prolong can only be detrimental.

SSN said they're about to go live to United's head office in London to find out what's going on.

FFS, how is this a distraction? It's hardly like it's something which people haven't heard anything about, and he's leaving the Dutch set-up anyway post-WC.

Getting concerned now. We're had at least 4 good opportunities to do this now and flunked all of them.

"Announcement of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United will not be made this week......due to Shinji Kagawa endorsing a new & improved mattress!.......PLAY-A-MAKING!!!!"

That's how you report something if you are told it off the record by a reliable source.

I wouldn't be too sure. That's how you report something you are told by anyone. Off the record is off the record - they can't use it at all. If it was a reliable source, they would say "from a reliable source" or "sources claim", not "it is understood". That just means that they could have heard it from a neighbour of van Gaal's. Who lives three miles away. And is dead.

Ha ha, you might be right, I guess it depends on the newspaper in question. I guess the "reliable source" bit of my post was superfluous because a paper should only report things it hears from reliable sources. But you are allowed to report information you were given off the record, off the record only means you cant name the source. "It is understood" is how you pass on that information. It doesnt necessarily make it unreliable, it just means the source doesnt want to be named. If something is particularly contentious it would need to be verified if it was off the record, but that isnt a legal issue, it is just about a paper protecting its reputation, making sure it doesnt report things that are wrong. Which doesnt seem to be something newspapers worry about too much when it comes to football to be fair.

You don't reveal your source unless you want out of a job. If the interview is on record then fine, if it isn't, you "understand from sources close to the club." First rule, that.
