United linked with van Gaal in the meeja

Like some have already said, dragging this out longer without the official announcement is more detrimental to the Netherlands preparation than to announce it now.

Seems a bit bizarre all this press leaking just to pull back again.

Good old Woody hasn't learnt anything from last season-he is still making a hash of things now.

Yep, whatever happens with this appointment, we can't really point fingers and say 'the club should have gotten such and such'.

There's nobody better out of who's available.

Agree with this. LVG has plenty of flaws but I can't see any better options so he's definitely who we should go with. It's kind of reassuring to know we're definitely making the right choice from what's in front of us.

What does the tweet say? I'm behind a corporate proxy at work :(

OptaJohan: Number. Blah Blah Blah. Infuriatingly pretentious single word statement at the end that has no real relevance to what has been said.

Sorry, Opta stats have annoyed me for a long time. I know it's such an irrational hatred, but I can't help it.

Generally speaking I'd be reluctant to criticise the club or Woodward for the delay as there's probably plenty of logical reasons for us not announcing him yet. I'd be surprised if the club was stupid enough to screw up his appointment.

Having said that, I spent all last summer thinking the club and Woodward weren't stupid enough to totally screw up the transfer window either, so it just goes to show...

I think it's fair enough for people to get a bit irritated by any potential signs of illogical moves, unnecessary delays or simple ineptitude. These were the hallmarks of the disastrous start to Moyes' reign and would be a very bad omen for the upcoming transfer window if they continued.

Liverpool are the little robot that says "Happy Birthday Paulie".

I'd say liverpool were just Paulie. Annoying little thing that demands attention but just ends up pissing everyone off and getting laughed at.

What could possibly be the reason for delaying the announcement? Its baffling

It is strange. Especially as the announcement is apparently being delayed until after the Dutch friendly, as if nobody expected that to happen. I said last week this'll be delayed for the friendly, it was inevitable.

I'd not be surprised if in a couple of weeks time Woodward asks his secretary "Sally, what's a 'World Cup' ?"

They maybe want to announce it so they can have a press conference on the same day. Sunday/Monday seems to be the best time before Holland jet off to Portugal on Tuesday.

Sigh. Now we're not going to find out until next week now. I'm really tired with this delay after delay if it's sorted, then why not announce it. You know I got a feeling we're going to have to wait until Holland are out of the World Cup before we can announce it. Looks like we're in for another terrible summer without any signings, then we will sign Peter Crouch on deadline day. Can this club do anything now since Sir Alex retired everything seems like it's a incredibly difficult these days. Ed's really dropped the ball on this one. Needs sacking if we have a summer like last. Of course it will be the manager's fault like it was David's before him.

Respecting the Netherland's football association, as the Guardian stated.

I don't get how that works out. His press conferences will be dominated by this until it's announced. Get it done say that's all I'm saying on the matter until Holland are out and we know where we stand. It's not a done deal is my opinion. Watch us miss out to Arsenal or Tottenham. We're fast becoming a laughing stock of the BPL.

He could at least give us a cheeky wink or something when probed about the job. That would seal it for me.

So, when exactly is this friendly again ?? Let us hope that we get this done quickly, so we can start with the transfers.

No we're not. Stop being so dramatic. van Gaal will without doubt be Manchester United manager.

Tbh, I'm a glad that we're going over every detail(if that's the case with Van Gaal delay). With Moyes, it seemed that we appointed him and gave him free reign of doing stuff. Atleast we're sorting all the stuff here. There's still plenty of time left for everything.

The dates are: 17th of May, 30th of May, and the final one 4th of June. So we're waiting at least between two to three weeks before we know if this is the real reason behind the delay. I think we're going to struggle this summer again. Our national coach wanted futures sorted before WC. But I guess that doesn't matter to dithering Ed.

What a load of shit.

The deal is done, he is the new guy there are a couple of formalities and minor things to clear up we could make the announcement now if we wished but we have probably been asked by Van Gaal and the KNVB to keep schtum until after the Ecuador game, meaning you will have your precious announcement come Monday/Tuesday.

Yep, I agree.

There seems a more meticulous approach this time, Woodward and company have learned from their mistakes, I think. The rushed appointment of Moyes was beyond reckless.

Can't make my mind up about Giggs' role. I don't want to see him leave the club but can you see Van Gaal passing over Kluivert as his number 2 in favour of Giggs? I can't and if that's the case, I can't see Giggs taking a lesser role at the club.
Of course we can. Giggs' speciality is one of a kind. And it will maintain United as we want it to be throughout our history. We are not Chelsea or City without tradition
In one way the sentiment in me is glad for Giggs if he is going to be our number 2,the mans a legend but lets be honest its a risk.

Id have preferred him to go away learn his trade get some experience in management elsewhere come back and see if he can cut it.It would have been better to bring in an established coaching team that has been successful and can hit the ground running as there's a bit of work to be done to the first team.
These are all a myth. Players turning manager does not necessarily shine in a lesser club especially with Giggsy's rich experience of the club. He would be frustrated, underachieved and learn not much. The transition from Fergie Era to a new era will be most appropriately with Giggsy as a right hand man.

Then Monday/Tuesday comes, then it's Wednesday/Thursday (definitely, this time!) and end the week off with it's next week and repeat. Ed Woodward needs sacking. He dithered under Moyes which cost Moyes, his job and now he's dithering trying to get another bloke in. I haven't an idea what must be going through Luke Shaw's mind right now about us. I just hope they're telling potential players on the QT that it's a "done deal." Then again, he's probably too busy sorting out a Twix sponsorship deal for The Glazer Family instead of signing players.

I suppose we can take it as a positive that they actually seem to have learned something from the whole Moyes fiasco, and that the same won't happen again for a very long time.

A man who pulled the trigger on Juan Mata to the tune of £30 million as soon as we knew he was available, who bid £27 million on an 18 year old left back 2 hours after our season finished is the one that is dithering ?

Only one bloke in OT has ever been accused of dithering in his career, and he was out on his arse by April, all whilst costing us the opportunity to have Strootman and Thiago all for the same price combined as we paid for Fellaini last summer.

I don't think there is any rush with the announcement. We all know that it is a done deal. Announcing it won't change much. It would just be telling everybody what they already know.

they are done for a few days after today though
They have an upcoming friendly, they want concentration on the World Cup. I can understand their concern, as soon as he's announced there'll be a massive influx of English journalists travelling to the Netherlands' training camp.

SSN said they have a friendly on Saturday and then they have 2 days off after that and it will all be announced then. So Sunday or Monday.
