United vs. Barcelona [Preseason Friendly]

Is SAF with the team? Or still in Manchester doing that other jor the club?

He'll be joining up with the squad some time this evening.

Most excited about seeing Rooney and Kagawa, but also to see how Kagawa does against top quality opposition

The formation I went with above is meant to basically be a 433, but with Rooney tucked in behind Welbeck and Kagawa shifted a bit wide and forward from midfielder to make up for the gap.

Actually it reminds me a bit of the 424 formation that Brazil used to use.

He's coming to Gothenburg this evening.

Edit: I see on Twitter he's just arrived at the hotel.

What's that website that lists all the channels that are showing this?

Manchester United will be wearing the new white away kit vs FC Barcelona tonight in Gothenburg #MUFC

Uh-oh.

See if we can stop the rot and not concede 2 goals in it :nervous:

Why do we keep wearing our away kits against them?

Just as long as we don't see the tequila sunrise kits, I'm good

Leo is supposedly going to play at least an hour tonight and rumours continue to suggest Villa might actually get a run out - I still can't see that happening really...I expect a dress rehearsal of sorts so it will be more competitive than one might expect, I wager...Tito will continue to alternate between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3

Dos Santos stayed in Barcelona, supposedly he's the subject of a loan move to Sevilla...Song remains the most consistent rumour for the last signing of the summer as Agger has been priced out

Right, off to Gothenburg in a minute. Not to excited about the game itself being a friendly but very excited bout meeting fellow reds and having a pint or two:devil:

Was he trying to take a pic of the flight attendances ass? Too late I would say.

Not to excited about this. We'll probably have 25% of possession. Good test for the defence I guess.

Uh-oh.

Wow. Breaking News!!!

What a pointless tweet.

Though, tbf, in comparison to some of the worthless shite on there it's like front page news.

Uh-oh.

Expected. I don't think we've worn it before and what better game for it to make its debut than against Barcelona?

This should be a good watch to see what we've come up with to tackle teams that play possession football. Although their style is a bit different, Bilbao made us look like clowns.

Finally going to see The Dark Knight Rises tonight so going to miss this. Hopefully catch some highlights when I get back.

I hope we play some sort of realistic first-team that would be likely to start against a team like Barca, or some of the difficult away games in Europe or the Premier League.

de Gea
Valencia Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Scholes
Nani Kagawa Young
Rooney

That's what I'd most like. Testing more Rooney/Welbeck as the front two could be good but as we've seen in the big games this generally lead to us losing even though their partnership is good. Anderson, Hernandez, Keane etc as other subs.

I remember our match with them last year, Alcantara scored a beaut. DDG made a couple of good saves and Owen missed an open net.

See a boring game, Barcelona to fanny about with the ball for 90% of game time and to win 1-0. United to have maybe one or two attacks.

Rio's a proper legend.

are we really wearing white against these cnuts again?
Yes, a friendly against Barcelona is a good game to use the new white kit for the first time.

If we meet them in Europe, I hope we play in red and white, especially that their kit is almost all blue this season.

But kits, only God knows.

I am normally not superstitious but coming out to play Barca while looking like Real hasnt worked out for us.

I'd like something like that as well, has lots of width.

That is a solid line up considering. If Barca are in the mood though we still wont be able to cope,

it'll be interesting to see how we play, we need to be compact yet have quick wide outlets to relieve the pressure they apply directly after losing the ball.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing welbeck play in this, he has speed and strength to hold up the ball and could be a good option. I want to see how kawaga and rooney get about as well, but i don't know if we can fit all three of them into the team while still having two wingers and a solid defensive midfield.

my only real thought is a 3-5-2 something like
ddg
valencia/rafeal-- ferdinand/vidc-- evra
carrick--scholes
nani -------kagawa----------------young
rooney-----welbeck

People who think we're going to play 3-5-2 have spent too much time on playing Football Manager.
