Errrhmmm...how about the guy that got the penalty.

he dived, not really a positive. Ronaldo had a poor game..

Did he dive really???

certainly looked like it, commentator thought the same and their crowd went crazy, very little contact if any.

Unfortunately he did. That's why I can't be upset about tonight's result. They deserved their win.

I'm gonna have to catch it on TV tonight.

Our defence was terrible tonite, especially Oshea and Rio. And our midfield was crap too, I mean phil neville in the CL??, I will dread the time, (if we qualify for the next stage) when we play the likes of Real madrid or Juventus cos this time around we would definitely lose.

FERGIE FURY AT BLUNDERS

Sir Alex Ferguson blamed ``terrible'' defensive blunders for his side's shock Champions League defeat in Stuttgart tonight.

The Manchester United boss was left stunned after two errors inside three second-half minutes gifted the Germans a 2-1 win in their Group E clash at the Neckarstadion.

Ferguson said: ``We defended terribly for the two goals and if you defend badly in games of this nature you deserve everything that happens to you.

``From a position of control we surrendered within minutes and allowed Stuttgart to become strong.''

Gary Neville was at fault for Imre Szabics' 51st-minute opener when he challenged unnecessarily for a header which gave the Croatian space to shoot past Tim Howard.

Then two minutes later it got worse as Szabics' defence-splitting ball found Kevin Kuranyi in space on the right to shoot home what turned out to be the winner.

Ferguson added: ``We committed ourselves to winning balls we shouldn't have been winning, all we needed to do was drop off to the edge of the box and be patient.''

The United boss will have a worrying few days checking the fitness of Ferdinand after the defender limped off following the challenge which gave away a late penalty, which Howard saved.

He added: ``We will take a look at it tomorrow. It was just a collision with the centre-forward and I don't think it was serious but we will wait and see.''

Ferguson's only bonuses were the return to penalty-taking form of Ruud van Nistelrooy, and the fine spot-kick save from Howard which prevented a potentially much more severe defeat.

He added: ``We maybe had a bit of fortune tonight with the save from Tim Howard because that goal might mean something to us when Stuttgart come to Old Trafford.''

Stuttgart coach Felix Magath hailed one of his side's finest ever nights in European but admitted he was disappointed by the penalty award against his side.

Goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand was penalised for apparently pushing over Ronaldo in the box but Magath said: ``I think the actions of our goalkeeper were absolutely correct.

``He was going for the ball and he used his hands so there was no reason to give a penalty.''

What the hell are you on about  All i was saying was that there was no free to air coverage of Man Utd vs Stuttgart for Australians. And as i found out about an hour ago, no cable coverage either. At least you get to watch it! I'm also not sure what your comments have in relevance to my quote

sorry if my comments not relevance... but from what i can see, our back 4 play really bad.. o'Shea and G Neville always late tracking back.. Silvest & Rio also terrible.. :(

Why is Forlan coming for Rio ?? he always loss the ball, i think Djemba² is a better choise.. if Djemba plays, Keano move a bit forward.

;) Dont b sorry! I just wasnt sure what u were on about!

Didnt watch the game but from what i picked up, the defense wasnt communicating very well (neither were the midfield)

When Diego came on, i suspect that United either played 3-5-2 formation (very very attacking) or they reverted to 4-4-2 formation with Keane slotting in as CB. Both those formations are attacking and SAF brought on Diego for Rio to try and score the equaliser. IMO it was the right move to make. But im not sure whether wasting time bringing Fletc on was a good idea :nono:

Livvie, that´s an insult.

Sorry Jens - it wasn't meant as one. Poor choice of words - I meant the result, i.e. a defeat in the CL, not that Stuttgart are the same quality team as Maccabi.

I thought Stuttgart looked very strong actually - well organised and solid. United looked ordinary in comparison.

Rio was really shown up last night, its not his fault he cost the bones of £30m, but he'd want to start showing a bit of form. I think O'Shea had a poor game also but wasn't helped by the fact that Ronaldo was played out of position, the two of them dont have a proper understanding yet.
Overall it was a poor performance but the team will get over it. Some of our fans were at it again prior to the game with the usual posts about how we'll stuff them 2/3/4 nil, the same people who predicted we'd thrash Wolves 10-0. Hope those people are feeling as bad as the rest of us after last night. I'm not having a go but a little bit of respect for the opposition from now on would be wellcome, we are certainly not invinceable, no one is.

Those are very valid points, furthermore I would rather we lose or draw a game in the group phase "just to keep a sense of perspective" and then knuckle down in the k.o. phase thats when the team really has to perform. Good learning experience for our youngsters.

It was a terrible performance from the team yesterday especially the defense, they just collapsed in the second half. As for phil neville, I don't EVER want to see that guy play in our midfied in the CL, he was terrible, play fortune next time for christs sake and giggs its been a very long time since he played a good game he was totally innefective last night. Anyway I have hope we will still qualify, of the 4 remaining games 2 wins and a draw will see us thru and we have to start by beating Rangers next.

 Thats a very laughable comment. People forget that Giggs scored a double against Bolton and was the archtect of just about every United goal in the game against Panathinikos. I agree with the rest of your post but that comment about Giggsy is unwarrented :wenger:

Yeh maybe but he was crap yesterday!!. Also I just remembered that scholes started on the right with ronaldo on the left and giggs in the middle, surely Fergie should have had scholes in the hole behind Ruud, ronaldo on the right and giggs on the left??, that was a strange one to me.

Yeah i agree completely. While Scholes's drive through the middle of the park is awesome, his penatration down the flanks has never been good. Why change something that had been working so well

agree too, I think SAF was trying to surprise the opposition but it was pretty ineffective, Ronaldo was like a fish out of water on the left, Scholes ditto on the right, Giggs had no room, thats our third succesive away defeat in the champs league. Have just got a copy of my evening paper and Keane has lashed the team out of it calling on them to restore the pride of the club in the next match against Rangers. He blasted Utd for making Euro novices Stuttgart look like seasoned Champs League campaigners saying that this is our ninth Champs League drive this year but we were well beaten by a side making their home debut in the competition. Fair point IMO.
