Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

No, I am saying the club should encourage him to leave. I don't think Rooney is hard-faced enough to do a Winston Bogarde although we may have to throw in a sweetener.

His agent will get whatever his contract is worth out of the club. Have no fear on that score, then he'll run off the the US and earn his crust over there.

To which people are you referring to?

Are you taking a story in the media to be 100% reliable and informed. Maybe you're one of those people.

United players are huge click bait, obviously Rooney attended a wedding had a few glasses of wine and went to bed at 1am is hardly going to be shocking enough.
So are you factually reporting that Rooney attended a wedding, had a few glasses of wine, and went to bed at 1am? If so you should start your own newspaper and start reporting your inside knowledge. We'd appreciate the honest truth.

That's a pathetic apology really and an even worse victim card. You're an over the hill player trying to keep your place in the team for a big game, perhaps dont get shit faced.

My cousin's brother's cousin's brother said that his regular pubs have moved all of the top shelf liquors to the right side of the bar to maximize revenue from our Wayne since he never looks left.
I'll get my coat.
Is he someone we can believe?

Ffs the mental gymnastics to defend Rooney. No one's chastising him for having 'a few drinks'. Look at the pictures and the state of him, alongside claims that he couldn't even stand up. Drinking is fine, binge drinking is not.

Now let's not consider this in a vacuum. Rooney is 'supposedly' carrying a knock, so instead of resting he'd chose to drink heavily all night.

This is in a season where his team mates have been harshly critiqued by the manager due to the culture of the club. What precedent does this set to fellow team mates?

He's the club and national team captain. England's national team has always been a laughing stock, but we are really in a period where Manchester United are also becoming a joke club.

What's worse is he acted so immaturely wearing the national team badge. My secondary school would bollocks us for getting caught doing anything stupid in our school blazers.

Then add the bollocks apology. Sorry for getting pictured acting inappropriately. How about fecking apologising for acting like an idiot.

How many stories/headlines do we need to endure over an average, overweight, overpaid footballer? Given he offers both club and country nothing both should just be shot of him. The sooner United are rid of him the better. I can't stand the bloke and all he has done for the club just crumbles away with every lacklustre, painful to watch performance.

In addition it was on the saturday night before training.

England captain drinking til 6 am the morning before a training session. What precedent does this set? Had it been a player from another club i'd be laughing. Heck, Rooney's become a name opposition fans would love to see in our starting XI - the guys just a joke now.

Yeah, really not believing he was sent home due to a 'knock'.

Should reports of Mourinho's anger being directed towards the FA be true, he's really misdirecting his frustrations. It should lie solely with Rooney, he's 31 years old. Not a 16 year old who needs chaperoning.

What a load of rubbish, he's not sorry at all, he's sorry he got caught. Should be dropped as England captain, what example does that set for children? To be honest might not make much difference anyway, they played ok without him the other night.

Because he's been straight back into training this week and is reportedly fit for the Arsenal game, if Southgate had planned all along to rest him he could have just said so.
And risk pissing off other PL managers for playing their star players but resting Rooney? Sure that's happening.

Well The Sun themselves ran with the 1am bit earlier

“I can only conclude he was celebrating the win against Scotland.

“He was really s***-faced.

“He was not a pretty sight by the time he left around 1am.”

It's sad that the word of The Sun is taken as the truth on here. They just make up stuff as they go along. Their earlier article stated 1am which then went on to become the more sensational 6am in an article the next day.

If you are worried about kids drinking, they don't learn that from footballers.

Wasn't part of the reason he got banned for swearing on camera was because the FA and others were all worried about the children? As if they have not heard their parents, neighbors, teachers, friends, etc etc etc swear.

Someone should please play the video for him.
No one is saying players can't drink on a night out. That's not what is rumoured to have happened to Rooney. They said he could barely walk at 6 am ffs. Wtf is wrong with you people?
How many times do you hear top players at other clubs being drunk to a stupor during the season. To make is worse, the player in question has unperformed for ages and has previous for the same thing.

The pictures are bad, but how can you believe quotes from the Sun?

Doesn't the article say they were given the day off?

His agent is a shark no doubt but, for the club to pay up his entire contract, they would need to conclude that Rooney is prepared to sit out his entire contract and cause trouble while doing so. I have been critical of Rooney but I don't believe he would have the complete lack of self-respect to do so, nor (from the point of view of the club negotiating with his agent) does Rooney have thick enough skin to realistically carry out such a threat (particularly in the relatively small, United-centric world that is Manchester/Cheshire).

This is the nub of the issue really. If he was still a top player, this would probably pass as a vaguely amusing incident and be reported as "you can take the player out of Croxteth, but can't take Croxteth out of the player" or some such condescending nonsense. As it is, Rooney has been stinking the place up with his performances for months on end, doesn't look fit, doesn't look motivated and this will just be another nail in his United coffin.

So many jobs out there that you'd get disciplined in if you went out and got sh!tfaced in public while wearing your company clothing/uniform.

I guess the FA isn't one of those as Southgate seems to be blaming the people reporting it rather than Wayne for being stupid.

Think that one girl is wearing any panties?

She must have known that she was one flash away from getting on TheSun pages, so: no panties, no bra. Bloody vulture, though a damn hot one.

Really is a disgrace.

Quoted for truth. This is a disgrace. I'm not English, but he is meant to be representing the Country as Captain of the most followed national sports team - unbelievably shabby, and it puts Mourinho in a very bad position.

Fergie had his number, he should have been shipped out a long long time ago, and now definitely never play for England again after this total lack of respect for the role and the jersey.

I can't believe that Coleen will be too happy to see that pic either!

I like how in the apology it's that he's "sorry the photos were published" rather than "I'm sorry I was out getting leathered"

Like when you apologise to your girlfriend by saying "I'm sorry that you think I behaved like a dick"

Or sorry that you saw that I cheated on you.
