How many stories/headlines do we need to endure over an average, overweight, overpaid footballer? Given he offers both club and country nothing both should just be shot of him. They were given the saturday off, however were due to report for training on sunday. Further details were given on talksport an hour ago.
His agent is a shark no doubt but, for the club to pay up his entire contract, they would need to conclude that Rooney is prepared to sit out his entire contract and cause trouble while doing so. I have been critical of Rooney but I don't believe he would have the complete lack of self-respect to do so, nor (from the point of view of the club negotiating with his agent) does Rooney have thick enough skin to realistically carry out such a threat (particularly in the relatively small, United-centric world that is Manchester/Cheshire).
This is the nub of the issue really. If he was still a top player, this would probably pass as a vaguely amusing incident and be reported as "you can take the player out of Croxteth, but can't take Croxteth out of the player" or some such condescending nonsense. As it is, Rooney has been stinking the place up with his performances for months on end, doesn't look fit, doesn't look motivated and this will just be another nail in his United coffin.
