Sir Alex Ferguson: “I had a player once who said to me that Rooney and Ronaldo weren’t good enough and he was not prepared to wait until they were good enough (Roy Keane? Ruud Van Nistelrooy?). But that’s the trouble with potential. People don’t identify potential. They’re very poor at it.

I’ve identified all my life the potential in young people. I know potential. I know how to develop and have faith in it. And young people surprise you when given the opportunity. That’s what this club is all about.”

Id be surprised if it was Keane as Ive a seen few different quotes about Rooney and Ronaldo and they were all positive. Id say it was Gibson

The quote was pretty obviously about van Nistelrooy's opinion. He wanted out because he didn't want to wait for the success.

I think Deco was joking, Pexbo.

Although it does sound like something Gibbo would say. He's so negative about everything.

People were seriously mad at his Usain Bolt celebration.

Then they need to get a fecking life.

I personally think it was O'Shea who said that but now that he's not here anymore, I'm not sure. It had to be Gibbo who said that. feckin Irish!

The most asinine part about that quote is that if he'd waited around for just one more season RVN would have seen Ronaldo become the 3rd best player in the world... and if he'd have waited around for two he'd have seen Ronaldo crowned the best player in the world and he'd have a CL winner's medal for himself.

Of course there's a pretty good argument to be made that all of that development happened because we got rid of RVN and gave Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha a chance to play together.

With Welbeck it looks like we finally have a player who brings many of the same elements which made Saha such a good player (when fit) for us.

Good comparison.Hopefully without the horrendous catalogue of niggles and injuries

Yeah, probably mostly by the idiots who don’t know their arse from their elbow, its not an Usain Bolt pose, its an “Apollo” pose

Yes, because Danny Welbeck is concerned with Greek mythology.

I'll tell you what I love about Welbeck.

Last game against Spuds, we're 2 up and Nani was through on goal (the shot was blocked by Friedel) and Spuds started a quick counter attack. Welbeck who was close to the spuds goal races back 50 yards to cover because Nani and Rooney are upfront.

This is why despite Berba being obviously more experienced and talented - Welbeck deserves his shot at keeping his place. Commitment and hunger to make it at United...Love it!

Steady on, your making him sound like Alan Smith! He's a much more technical player than you give him credit for. Some of the things he can do when the ball is at his feet can be arguably be on the same level as the most skilled in the league. When he was in the youth team he was never known for his workrate, if anything he was too laidback and easygoing. That loan to Sunderland has been the making of him.

He's always been amongst the most talented in his age group, but when you ally his technique and overall completeness of his game with the workrate and even heading ability he has developed, then you are looking at a seriously World-level star IMHO... He'll be the Ronaldo "X-factor" replacement/Rooney's proper partner we've been looking for since Ronnie left. A lot of has seen him since he was 16, and he hasn't shown anywhere near the whole range of his skill and technique, all thats needed is for him to get his confidence, and you saw it straight away after his goal on Monday, what kind of player he ciuld potentially become...

Think his point was that on top of his skill and technique, he has drive and determination in bundles as well.

There won't be any "FFS Welbeck, lazy cnut" moanings around here anytime soon, because he works his ass off.

Trust the Caf to make me laugh after an horrendous night out

Deserves the start tomorrow. I'm excited to see him run at this Arsenal defense.

Danny's injury has put a bit of a downer on things for me. He fitted in perfectly with our new style and team.

How long will he be out, a couple months?

I feel bad for the lad :(
He was clearly gutted because he knew he was in a form that could have maintained as a starting player for a while. It's amazing this mentality

He was playing brilliantly. Sucks ass that he's going to be sidelined for a while.

Hopefully 3-4 weeks, the good thing is that he came off straight off straight away and didn't put the hamstring under any extra strain...

I think a wrestler did it as well... Hogan? Macho Man? Memory doesn't serve me well...

Welbeck always seems to suffer injuries when he's doing well. Last year at Sunderland he started scoring for fun and then got injured.

That hamstring will take atleast 4-6 weeks. Then after that there is no guarentee he'll return to form immediately.

Very unlucky lad. Perhaps the Louis Saha comparison has more to it than just the playing style.

I think he tweaked it on that Rooney's cross, I just knew something had gone wrong.
Then the chase for the long pass did him in
