Welbeck

He's probably disappointed when he doesn't get on the scoresheet if he's played 7 minutes of a game never mind 70. But yeah, definite development and with his attitude you'd be a fool to bet against him developing further.

From BBC

Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has been ruled out for four to five weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the 8-2 win over Arsenal.

Welbeck, who has been in fine form this season, earlier opened the scoring, his second of the new campaign, before pulling up injured in the 35th minute.

His injury means he will now miss England's Under-21 games against Azerbaijan and Israel in September.

"It is a loss for us and for England," boss Sir Alex Ferguson told BBC Sport.

Welbeck joins Rafael da Silva (shoulder), Rio Ferdinand (hamstring) and Nemanja Vidic (calf) on the sidelines for United.

"Danny complained of a tight hamstring before he actually pulled it and we couldn't get [Javier] Hernandez on quick enough," said Ferguson, following the rout at Old Trafford.

"It is a shame for Danny but it [his absence] will be around four to five weeks."
These hamstrings of his have got to be in top notch condition for at least the next 10 years.

Hope he's out until it's fully healed....and then some if poss. :)

Hamstrings? Get on the Yoga Danny. Ryan give him the DVD:

He looked lively in the Arsenal game, and after he scored in the spuds game. My critism of him in the other games, and the first half of the spuds one is that he didn't seem to get involved in the play enough but hes shown hes a confidence player so hopefully the time he is out doesn't damage his confidence at all

Welbeck had 23 touches in the 36 minutes he was on the pitch... Hernandez had 26 touches in the rest of the match. SNM

Danny's game has always been more about getting involved in the build-up while Hernandez is all about making runs off the ball (attacking the space without the ball, if you will) and getting onto the end of things as an outlet. Completely different types of players.

Say no more? Good idea.

'Say no more'!! Leave that out for the bbm.

Aside from the little digs, I think you people are missing the point.

The way we are playing right now, is better than anything we have played since Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez were rotating positions. Rooney is almost playing like Gullit in his Milan-prime of the 80s, where he could effortlessly roam all over the attacking third and be destructive. The reason why he can do that is because Welbeck, along with Nani and Young, are intelligent and versatile enough to play in any position across the front 4. This allows Rooney to roam wherever he feels he can do most damage, safe in the knowledge that the other three are good, and intelligent, enough to make the right choices when in those positions.

Hernandez, much like Ruud before him, is simply too one-dimensional to thrive in such a system. He's outstanding as a centre-forward in yer bog-standard 4-4-2, where Rooney will drop off into the hole and ping passes to him and the wingers, but where he has to link up with the rest of the team, he really struggles. The only way I can see him getting back to being first choice, is if he improves his one and two-touch play and interaction with his teammates in general, and I know he'll strive to do so, I just don't think he has it in him to attain the level of versatility we need from him in such a system... I hope to be proven wrong though, cos though my post didn't seem like it, I do love him...

I never like to see players coming back quickly from hamstring injuries. Especially not when they have a history with it.

Take it easy Danny. Plenty of time for you yet lad.

Absolutely no need to rush him back, with the striker options we've got. Just make sure he's 100%.

Hope he doesn't push himself too much and we don't risk him too soon.

This guy has the potential to become as good as he wants. He's tall, blazing fast, adept at link-up play, quality with his head or either foot, and seems to radiate joy only slight less intensely than Chicharito.

And he's a Manc, so he'll never leave! As excited as I am about Cleverley, this guy is twice as exciting.

He needs to learn to play with his back to goal - thats the area of his game where he has to improve a lot. Everything else he can do

He has given our opponents quite a few counter-attacks due to losing the ball when it is played up to him - with his back to goal

back to some Berbatime :)

Think Berbatov will struggle to get much game time.

United this season appear to be all about pace - getting the ball from back to front as quickly as possible and getting in behind teams.

Berbatov - as talented as he clearly is, tends to slow play down when he gets the ball.

Needs to improve his first touch at times - can look awkward when the ball is given to him at pace.

That said he's coming along well, and should get plenty of game time tis year to further improve.

I would have said his hold up play is one of his strengths, albeit there is always room for improvement.

Oh sure, he has lots of room for refinement, but he's able to create a top class touch, he's able to hold the ball up, he just need consistency. But that comes with experience and practice.

For his age, he's way ahead of the curve. If it turned out he was cloned to be the perfect footballer I wouldn't think it strange, what a build!

Maybe he needs to take up Yoga from Giggs who suffered with hamstring problems regularly.

I've always thought for Welbeck it's confidence that held him back, as well as the injuries. He could be a bit passive/careful at times and seemed too aware of the crowd's frustrations when he misplaced a pass/lost the ball.

With his physical development and the Sunderland loan he has looked far more confident and is starting to show the talent he posesses and trying a few tricks/improvisation in games. The good thing is that there is more to come and he's still developing/improving.

Agreed.

The first 60" vs last 30" of the Spurs game being a great example of the difference in his game that a bit of self-belief can bring.

He's almost got Berbatouch  It's the decision making that goes along with it he's still improving on.

What happened to that argument I was having with you gimps last year about how in a years time Welbeck would be good enough to stay at United?

I think the counter argument was something about him not being as good as Gareth Bale and that therefore we should pay £40 million for Gareth Bale instead. People need to be shown up for this.

It can be very inconsistant (which is understandable for a developing young player). Sometimes its majestic but other times he can be a bit untidy. The Tottenham game is a good example, see before and after his goal.

Same thing happens to Rooney.

Anyone who said that ought to be made to dress up as a monkey and sprint in a straight line across Wales

That said, I was by no means sure three years ago that Danny would turn out this good
