Ah ok. It's only a fine at worst though isn't it? Much as I'd love to see a pissed off Durham police really go for him, I don't want to get my hopes up.
I've not followed the news for an hour, and on reading this thread my first thought was to agree with you, but then I've looked at the BBC and Sky online and there's feck all about Starmer. Going back through the thread it looks like all he's done is made a short tweet which has had and will have little impact. He should have had a press briefing and put forward his thoughts a lot more effectively than that. He should have made a call that would be headline news, not just made some insignificant tweet.
Agreed, and Boris will "self isolate" himself away from any press briefings or questions until it blows over and we move on to the next big news story. The political version of putting your fingers in your ears and saying "not listening"The telling thing in that interview I believe was Johnson's palpable irritation. It's quite clear he knew that he was on the wrong side of the argument, and he recognised the absurdity of the position he has been compelled to adopt due to the hubris and misjudgement of his puppet-master. That's why he was so irritated at the questions and any attempts to follow up, because he knows his bluster can only hold for so long. Any serious scrutiny and it will be exposed so he cannot permit it to happen.
I think the press conference will backfire, too. I fail to see how that will win over people to the side of Cummings, and that is what Johnson needed to do, because it's evident they are on the backfoot when it comes to the opinion of the majority of the public and the media. The arrogance and failure to engage with the details will enrage the journalists and ensure they pursue this until they get answers. I've never seen such a unanimity of opinion across the political spectrum, certainly not in recent years, as to the moral corruptness of the government's present position.
The last few days has made me certain that Cummings' knowledge of skulduggery in the Leave campaign includes something that has the potential to destroy Johnson.
I think the importance is less in what action the police will take than what they will uncover. At the moment we only have eyewitness testimony. If the police confirm a second breach of lockdown I think his position truly teeters onto the brink of becoming untenable.
I used to be even more premature when I was younger.Never interrupt your enemy when he’s making a mistake.
We have yet another in a series of surreal, stupid situations in that Boris Johnson himself has yet to appoint a committee to approve the release of the report.Isn't that intelligence report on Russian interference in British democracy that was finished two months prior to the election still being kept secret?
It might also be because he can bully Boris into doing what he wants. He seems like the type. If he's that much of a cnut in public then feck knows what he's like behind closed doors. And we all know how much of a fecking coward Boris is.Well, all I can think is that Cummings has so much dirt on the Government that if he's sacked, or pushed out, or forced to resign, he'll spill goodness knows what, which will destroy reputations.
He's already shown himself to be totally unscrupulous and not to give a flying feck, he'd probably enjoy it and look forward to huge sales of his sordid memoirs.
They managed to shut JRM up, because they thought, quite rightly, that he was damaging the image of the party, but they are incapable of controlling this absolute fecking cnut of a man. (I think that's the technical term.)
From my perspective, I couldn’t give a toss about Cummings or what he did. What really enrages me though is the way that these soulless politicians (Hancock, Patel, JRM, Gove etc.) have rallied around him.
For me, it’s not just Cummings position thats untenable but every single one of them that have come out in public support of him. This isn’t left versus right, remain versus leave, this purely comes down to the integrity, trust and moral compass of those that clearly do not deserve to be in the positions that they are in. An absolute embarrassment that the public is getting treated like this by elected officials.
Seriously, he's the worst-dressed man since me.
'...and Dobba can piss off too.'
Same with me, expressing how little I care for Lonsdale daps. It’s part of his schtick, to express how little he cares for social conventions.
I doubt it. The vast majority of the public don't care, the government will distract with something tomorrow or Tuesday, plus the furloughing story will flare up again and it'll be forgotten.I think the importance is less in what action the police will take than what they will uncover. And isn’t that fundamentally the saddest thing about where we are as a society today, that you can’t even expect those very basic principles from people running our country.Good one!

I'd appreciate him finding the spine.'...and Dobba can piss off too.'
Is the BBC's political editor still silent?
Wrong. Very wrong.I doubt it. The vast majority of the public don't care, the government will distract with something tomorrow or Tuesday, plus the furloughing story will flare up again and it'll be forgotten.
