Westminster Politics

Seriously, he's the worst-dressed man since me.

Ah ok. It's only a fine at worst though isn't it? Much as I'd love to see a pissed off Durham police really go for him, I don't want to get my hopes up.

I think the importance is less in what action the police will take than what they will uncover. At the moment we only have eyewitness testimony. If the police confirm a second breach of lockdown I think his position truly teeters onto the brink of becoming untenable.

I've not followed the news for an hour, and on reading this thread my first thought was to agree with you, but then I've looked at the BBC and Sky online and there's feck all about Starmer. Going back through the thread it looks like all he's done is made a short tweet which has had and will have little impact. He should have had a press briefing and put forward his thoughts a lot more effectively than that. He should have made a call that would be headline news, not just made some insignificant tweet.

Never interrupt your enemy when he’s making a mistake.

The telling thing in that interview I believe was Johnson's palpable irritation. It's quite clear he knew that he was on the wrong side of the argument, and he recognised the absurdity of the position he has been compelled to adopt due to the hubris and misjudgement of his puppet-master. That's why he was so irritated at the questions and any attempts to follow up, because he knows his bluster can only hold for so long. Any serious scrutiny and it will be exposed so he cannot permit it to happen.

I think the press conference will backfire, too. I fail to see how that will win over people to the side of Cummings, and that is what Johnson needed to do, because it's evident they are on the backfoot when it comes to the opinion of the majority of the public and the media. The arrogance and failure to engage with the details will enrage the journalists and ensure they pursue this until they get answers. I've never seen such a unanimity of opinion across the political spectrum, certainly not in recent years, as to the moral corruptness of the government's present position.
Agreed, and Boris will "self isolate" himself away from any press briefings or questions until it blows over and we move on to the next big news story. The political version of putting your fingers in your ears and saying "not listening"

The last few days has made me certain that Cummings' knowledge of skulduggery in the Leave campaign includes something that has the potential to destroy Johnson.

Isn't that intelligence report on Russian interference in British democracy that was finished two months prior to the election still being kept secret?

Yeah I think it hinges on what happens with the second one. If there is undeniable evidence, then I don’t see how they can spin that. If it’s just the first, then I think it’ll blow over unfortunately.

We have yet another in a series of surreal, stupid situations in that Boris Johnson himself has yet to appoint a committee to approve the release of the report.

Well, all I can think is that Cummings has so much dirt on the Government that if he's sacked, or pushed out, or forced to resign, he'll spill goodness knows what, which will destroy reputations.

He's already shown himself to be totally unscrupulous and not to give a flying feck, he'd probably enjoy it and look forward to huge sales of his sordid memoirs.

They managed to shut JRM up, because they thought, quite rightly, that he was damaging the image of the party, but they are incapable of controlling this absolute fecking cnut of a man. (I think that's the technical term.)
It might also be because he can bully Boris into doing what he wants. He seems like the type. If he's that much of a cnut in public then feck knows what he's like behind closed doors. And we all know how much of a fecking coward Boris is.

Boris: "Please, Dom, take a seat. Um."
Dom: "I'll stand."
Boris: "right, um. Well. You um, you know that, um."
Dom: "in fact. I'll sit in your chair and YOU'LL stand."
Boris: "um, right yes, I'm, of course. Right so...um"
Dom: "HURRY IT UP YOU FAT BASTARD"
Boris: "you have to resign."
Dom: "feck off bacon face."
Boris: "of course, um, right. Yes."

From my perspective, I couldn’t give a toss about Cummings or what he did. What really enrages me though is the way that these soulless politicians (Hancock, Patel, JRM, Gove etc.) have rallied around him.

For me, it’s not just Cummings position thats untenable but every single one of them that have come out in public support of him. This isn’t left versus right, remain versus leave, this purely comes down to the integrity, trust and moral compass of those that clearly do not deserve to be in the positions that they are in. An absolute embarrassment that the public is getting treated like this by elected officials.

Good one!

Not too far off this

Just think if you voted Tory in the election you actually voted for this guy. Take a look at yourself.

I doubt it. The vast majority of the public don't care, the government will distract with something tomorrow or Tuesday, plus the furloughing story will flare up again and it'll be forgotten.

I honestly dont know. This story seems to cut through. Such a brazen example of hypocrisy is pissing off even the more apolitical people I know.

Exactly the reason they are encouraging football to return.

I dunno, this seems like something that taps perfectly into the British psyche and pisses everyone off regardless of political affiliation. As long as the opposition don’t make the mistake of politicizing it too quickly.

Any word if the eyewitness who saw Cummings in Durham forest or whatever it is took a picture, that's what will bring him down.

Rumour is that even more evidence will be featured in tomorrow's newspapers.

Wrong. Very wrong.

Iain Watson been asking the BBC questions at the press conference last few days, he certainly isn't letting them off the hook. Johnson was desperate to cut him off when he had sound issues today.

Even Der Stürmer has lost faith:
