Westminster Politics

No one needed this Cummings incident to know that either he or Boris aren't particularly smart, or suitable for office. We all knew it before now. Maybe some people didn't know who Cummings was but they certainly knew Boris was both an idiot and a liar, and they voted him into government.

People have voted for liars before but until the brexit election they had never willingly voted for someone who was so obviously not fit for office, and that marked a very big change for this country.

It told our elected government that people didn't care about holding anything they do or say to account, or how good they were at actually being a government. It's taken 60,000 people dying and an incident like this for people to suddenly and inevitably change their mind, but it's too late at this point to expect it just to change back. There is no way on earth that Boris or Cummings relinquish any power willingly, because doing or saying anyhting they can to grab and cling to power is the only purpose either of them had in the first place. Literally nothing that happens will change that. They don't know how to do anything else

Cummings and co have no idea how to run a government. They are experts at lying and ignorance and that's it. The inevitable outcome when they were elected was a hostile government that is held in contempt by more and more as it fails to do it's basic duties. You can lie about what other people are doing quite easily, but it's quite hard to constantly lie about what you are doing when you don't have a clue what you are actually doing. It'd take a very smart person to do that, and we're dealing with someone who thought it was a good idea to drive 260 miles during a lockdown despite knowing he was in the public eye. Smart people don't do things that thick people would do.

I hope you are right but thr last 4 years have taught me that the public of this country are easily deceived and ultimately don't care about stuff like this.

Maybe, but this is a little different. Boris now wont command any respect from anyone, whether it's government officials, unions or members of the public. People might not care but they're certainly not going to listen to him...which at a time when the government needs help from pretty much every collection of unions, business, public services etc. around, is quite a serious problem. None of them are going to forget about this because it's of direct concern to them at the moment whether they can trust what the government tell them or not, and this makes it possible for anyone to think they can.

That Telegraph writer's giving us the high hat, mate.
The way all of the Cummings minions are running around like crazy, I'd be surprised if they had to coordination to hit a high hat. Maybe a triangle or single bongo.

I can't think of a drum pun, so I'll just type any old shit as usual.

Was just on Daily Mail Website: they have gone all in and with such gusto.

They have 5 or 6 different reports on this Cummings story, all slamming BJ and/or Cummings from every conceivable angle.

They must think these reports represent the views of their readership.

 post of the year

So, are we all guessing our Cummings out date? Thursday after a couple of failed attempts to change the narrative focus from "being a good father" to "look over there, a wasp!"

Couldn't believe what I was seeing when our cnut PM was speaking earlier.

1. Comes out in an attempt to look like a figure of authority and pardons DC, when in actual fact he looked a mess, and was clearly all over the place.
2. Defends his best friend with saying its a parents instinct to want to protect their child. Correct.
3. Then the cnut PM quickly moves on to re-opening schools where there are still lots of question marks around this
4. Why are parents going to send their kids to school until they're confident it safe, or schools even re-open in the first place.....I mean, can they not use their own instincts to keep the children safe?

Boris is a twat, so are the Tories, we know this, but sadly their are too many stupid people in this country who back them (btw bizarrely they're stop supporters have suffered from Corona the worst). DC needs to go, and all those MPs that backed him need to get egged, badly, and the PM should get a public flogging for this

The schools thing is really difficult now. I actually think it's the correct thing to do based on the current situation, given the hardship on a lot of parents and desperate situation they are in. It just needs to be done very carefully and flexibly. I'm not sure how you can make it mandatory for any parent to send their kid to school at this point given the wide range of circumstances different people are in. Same with teachers. You have to let people go by their individual circumstance.

Good luck doing anything when you have no integrity and can't command any respect or trust from anyone though. As soon as something goes wrong, which it's likely to somewhere, it's going to be hostile beyond belief.

Ah ok. It's only a fine at worst though isn't it? Much as I'd love to see a pissed off Durham police really go for him, I don't want to get my hopes up.
That would be perfect. A fine is proof of guilt. The fact that two officials have been forced to resign due to breaking of lockdown regulations means there is now a precedent that has been set and should be adhered to. If this second supposed breach of lockdown gets charged by the police then Boris can’t defend him. Furthermore it will bring into question whether Boris kneW if his senior advisor was breaking lockdown.

Yeah but they can't make it the Wild West for governance. Teachers are either told to go in or the school doesn't open. The teachers have already made it clear that they're not interested in going back in so unless the order comes directly from the Local Authorities, which it won't, it has to come from Boris. Which it won't. He's more than happy to just let shit hit the fan because he doesn't get to take the blame for any feck ups and he probably hopes that people get distracted with trying to stop their own lives from becoming shit so that they don't have time to care about Cummings

I’m not convinced a large % of people really care. Most of the public won’t even have a clue who Dominic Cummings is. Have a look around, the population aren’t in lockdown anymore, and haven’t been for weeks.
Time will tell.
How long people will care for is up for dispute. But this will annoy alot of people who have had to endure a lockdown. Lockdown is a unique and unifying issue, this is national. Every single person experienced the lockdown. It is very different to when a policy or scans impacts a small section of society.

Those two officials were expendable. Johnson will just ride it out. In the 1,000-1 chance Cummings gets fined, then he's been punished, we move on. People are confusing twitter and the wider electorate.

It wouldn't matter if he did order it at this point. There is very little reason for anyone to listen. I suspect that has more to do with why he wont come out and out order it or give clear guidance as well, because it would just expose how little trust people have in him and his government.

I'd also suspect that was the reason for our wishy washy lockdown but sort of not a lockdown approach in the first place. It doesn't really work as a blame avoiding tactic as people will always blame weak leadership when things go wrong...but it'd be far more damaging to tell people clearly and strictly what to do and loads of them just decide not to listen because they already think you're an idiot.

The level of respect for this government going into all this was low enough that the likely outcome of trying to impose any strict measures would have been open hostility. I'm convinced all this has cost a lot of lives already.

People also missing the point that integrity has never at any point meant anything to either Boris or Cummings. They could have the entire population of Britain protesting outside no10. They wont care.

Literally Cummings only concern is staying in power. It's like asking a car thief to drive your car back to you because you've noticed it's gone.

The new Pro Cummings angle on Twitter is that his kid is autistic so people should stop trying to play politics.

Huh? The law doesn't apply to him, unlike other people, because he is a parent concerned about his kids.

Straight from the let them eat cake script book of privileged wankerdom.

If the Mail are hammering him then the blue rinse brigade will be baying for his blood. That matters a lot more to the Tories than Twitter does.

The new Pro Cummings angle on Twitter is that his kid is autistic so people should stop trying to play politics. Which is a dodgy argument for a couple of reasons;

1) the kid is four so that must be one hell of a diagnosis team that managed to discover that with the utmost certainty
2) Cummings is a twat

‘Have sympathy for Child who is autistic’ strategy blowing up against Cummings on twitter. Loads of hard hitting rebuttals like one below.

They will switch to defending him soon enough. The Mail has never worried much about arguing both sides of an argument for ratings.

I wonder if it was Cummings who came up with this latest Tory three word message.
RESPONSIBLY, LEGALLY and INTEGRITY.

The government still defending the indefensible this morning on breakfast news and trying to re-write the rules again. Still avoiding specific questions and trying to deceive. The government are a disgrace. Cummings position is untenable and so will be the PM’s himself at this rate.

The crux of the argument for me. I’m furious that we have a government full of liars but I don’t necessarily blame them. A leopard can’t change its spots, it’s the people that voted for them and expected something different that should be taking some responsibility for this.

Can't see Cummings going anywhere. He is a very important part of Johnson's agenda .Similar to Trump's

I must admit, I'm very confused about this situation. This guy must be extremely important or have a lot of dirt on people. The Tories could have nipped this in the bud pretty quickly yet they've allowed it to become a massive story.

I’m amazed people like Tom Harwood are allowed near a TV screen and a platform to sprout their shite. It’s not as if people like that have a knowledgeable view on anything.

He‘s being ushered in as a young voice of the right. Despite the fact he’s completely devoid of any intellect.

I have written to my MP who is unfortunately Chris Skidmore Conservative requesting that he does the right thing and urge his leader to do the right thing and sack Mr Cummings for breaking lockdown instructions.

I would urge anyone who feels dissatisfied with how Boris Johnson is defending him to contact their MP.

Yet the news companies keep giving him a platform even though he keeps sprouting nonsense.

He’s quite clearly got a patron in BBC politics/news production. A bit like Milo had in the US.

Isn't he the general of the army of online trolls that flood comment sections up and down the country? (Senior adviser is a euphemism imo)

Seen a few people discussing the Government's instructions to send people back to School in June being completely destroyed by the authority they have conceded over Cummings.

If parents are told to send kids back to School they can't enforce it as the parents have every right to "use their parental instincts`.

The Education Secretary placed responsibility on Cummings' head. Note the wording:
"He has made it clear that he’s broken no rules and he’s broken no laws"

That's not the same thing as supporting him at all.

It is clear however that there is a plethora of additional information circulating in the public domain which deserves appropriate examination. I have today written to the Chief Constable, asking her to establish the facts concerning any potential breach of the law or regulations in this matter at any juncture.

Confirmed that investigation will go on, I wonder if the papers/journos and witnesses now will collaborate
Think it'll be quicker than a parliamentary inquiry in any case and we'll be back in the BoJo lied to the queen territory I reckon once this is finished but question will be how much that will affect Tory popularity with their base
