Westminster Politics

The worst part is that i'm not even shocked. This is the type of news story that Labour should be using as a clear attack on the Tories and yet we get feck all. Unfortunately the NHS is doomed to fail at this point, too much damage has been done.

In reality it's a shitty stick that no one will want to touch, as no party can fix these issues for a further 5-10 years (through recruitment and graduating of appropriate staff) or immediately through external recruitment from overseas, which Brexit has had a material impact on.

They had a reported 40,000 staff shortage in 2017 which would have no doubt increased post pandemic due to the long term effects on that sector, and the governments pledge of recruiting 50,000 nurses before the end of their parliament term was calculated on the back of a fag packet.

Another Tory MP saying the quiet bit out loud!

“I GOT (A POTENTIAL) BRIBE TO SECURE MY VOTE!”

Not even an actual bribe, just a ‘oh sure we’ll definitely look into that, er, what was your name again?’

More completely normal governing by the Tory Party

Access to Justice is a disgrace in this country.

Its been slowly squeezed over the past 10 years since LASPO. Don't expect any change in that any time soon.

The government ignoring the legal sector about proposed reforms is BAU under the Tories. The party of law and order.

Boris Johnson is a classic case of the wrong person in the wrong job.
He is essentially a journalist in a CEO job.
He has the wrong skill sets. He is a tactical thinker, only interested in the next headline. Whereas a CEO skill set is more one of a strategic thinker.

His management of Brexit is a perfect example.
Get Brexit done. Without being able to understand the longer term consequences.
The total balls up of the Irish border issue illustrates just how he thinks.
Tell them you have an Oven Ready solution without understanding the ramifications.
And when his plan fails, just change the rules. Or pretend the problem doesn't exist.

And he is not going to change because he cannot change.
He has been promoted to a position way above his level of competence.

It feels like pretty much everything is with our country atm. Public transport, policing, health, justice.

Hes a charlatan and a shyster. He knew as well as anyone that his brexit deal wasn't what he claimed it was, he knew full well what he was saying when telling the Northern Irish there would be no border in the sea etc etc . These aren't misapplied skill sets at work, its a bullshitter getting away with it because he knows he can.

PMQs is about to get under way. I'm very interested in how he will try and change the narrative.

“Im delighted to have the support of the Conservative party, it’s fine to focus on what matters: cost of living crisis and Ukraine”

In response to every question.

That and the usual bullsh1t about how he (yes he) has delivered the lowest unemployment blah blah and the strongest economy blah blah.
But Starmer scored well on the increasingly terrible NHS waiting lists.
And the promised 48 so called new hospitals.

While that is true, legal aid rates haven't increased in 30 years and were cut by 10% in 2013. Think about the level of cut that is compared to inflation.

On top of that in order to get a Legal Aid contract there are a lot of additional administrative and audit burdens on top of the usual SRA compliance points that causes additional overheads, my job being one of them (thanks!).

I can understand why a lot of firms won't touch Legal Aid. They are talking about increasing one part of the system that they cannot avoid dealing with since criminal justice is backing up the courts, but think about how the government has a conflict of interest in decreasing the availability of public funding to challenge the government in Judicial Review or other civil claims, which is also a major part of justice.

Anyway.. Sorry for the rant

He isn't even a journalist, to call him that, us doing a huge disservice to those good journalists out there.

He is just a liar, full stop.

Thread:

This one was the icing on the cake though

Looks like when another poster on here told me that the yougov polls I linked to about the popularity of labour manifesto pledges in 2019 were biased, he was right after all. Except they were biased in the opposite way he'd suggested. Shameless, these 'high-up' people.

If you don't laugh you'll cry

Well that thread is strictly about the 2017 elections, not 2019. I don't think it's a surprise though that after the 2017 results, the media bias against Corbyn increased significantly and he didn't get anywhere near an impartial representation by the media.

2027 - Hi I’m Clive and my experience of the 2017 election was probably a little bit different than most people, firstly I burned thousands of ballots while priti patel held a pistol to my head 1/23

Twitter threads are so overdone and pretentious

I then woke up in a sweaty rage as my alarm clock had failed to remind me that Strictly was coming on in five minutes, so I went back to sleep 2/23

why dont the labour front bench just do what the tories do and just make shit up. hurl all kinds of crass accusations at the tories. its beyond doubt that the british public will believe any old shite.
you have a majority of daily mail readers convinced of a left wing mainstream media plot against the the tories! convinced the likes of Laura K were labour party stooges, its almost as give they believe Corbyn was given a free pass by the press!!!!.

i wont link to the shite, but theres a long comment piece in the Mail today pretty much stating this case....

He is just a liar, full stop.

He was a journalist before entering politics.
But what I was pointing out is that he is completely unsuited to the job of Prime Minister because he has completely the wrong skill set and personal characteristics.

And yes. He is a compulsive liar who struggles to understand reality. But that is not his worst characteristic.
Definitely the worst PM I can recall because of his terrible sense of judgement.

“Remainer” is the Johnson version of Menshevik, Trotskyite, saboteur etc. A sinister plot which explains all the failures of Big Dog’s government. Even though every open remainer was purged from the parliamentary party two years ago.

Maybe not the right thread, but could not find another.
Regarding the forthcoming rail strike, I keep on hearing that this strike could affect people going to Glastonbury.
The Glastonbury Festival is held in farmers fields around 6 or 7 miles away from the town of Glastonbury.
And there is not a railway station in Glastonbury.

True… but a lot of people get coach + festival tickets that involve leaving from various cities. I guess a good number of people would get the train to those cities before hopping on the coach.

Maybe. But they have been given plenty of notice so as to make alternative travel arrangements.
It was more the lazy reporting I was highlighting. Any excuse to bash workers exercising their legitimate right to withdraw their labour.

Facts have never gotten in the way of the Tories and media attacking workers and unions.
