Westminster Politics

That Starmer piece was really weird. I had to check the tv a couple of times to make sure it wasn’t a glitch, felt like I was having deja vu.

I agree but think it's cos he realised the public are fecking morons. Rather than throw too many things out there, stick to a couple points and hope they land - it's exactly how the Conservatives keep winning and how Brexit happened. Just say 2/3 things again and again

I just fear he still lacks enough charisma and is too much like a block of wood to attract the casual voter.

Possibly you’re right though and it is an interesting take he may have deliberately changed his approach to parrot a few key messages.

I just want him to be comfortable in his own skin and not to appear like a robot.

Just listening to Starmer on the BBC. I long for him to be good, I really do. The country needs a change of government.

Sadly he’s just sat repeating himself on and on. Same phrases recycled. Like a parrot.

Why!
What else can he say ffs. People say he is boring - politicians should be boring. Hate that it dominates the news cycle like ugly reality TV.

BBC:

Boris Johnson has appointed Greg Clark as the new Levelling Up Secretary, replacing Michael Gove.

Kit Malthouse becomes Chancellor for the Duchy of Lancaster, the most senior minister in the Cabinet Office after the prime minister.

James Cleverly has been appointed as education secretary.

It was borderline awkward and came across he literally had nothing else to say. Recycling the same thing time and time again.

It’s positive they’ll opt for a vote of no confidence but I’m surprised he didn’t specifically call for a GE at the soonest opportunity in the same way Ed Davy did moments earlier.

Just a man reading a script. So uninspiring.

How about a Russian sniper takes him out on the steps of No.10? I'm setting the recorder.

Oh his points were fine but don’t keep repeating them to each question like a parrot.

It was uncomfortable watching him and gave the impression he had nothing else to say.

Is it too much to ask for a leader to be themselves rather than be that scared of making a mistake they must remain rigid and robotic to a few catchy phrases?

Can't believe there is talk of an interim PM. Have they learnt nothing from Ralf?

What time is the announcement?

Is Starmer trying to be a small target?

It did work for Albo in Australia to get our Tories out.

He's been calling for A GE literally every day this week.

Cos he was asked similar questions. People do all too easily look for things to critisize him over...

He's a fecking moron.Talk like an adult? Nah, baby the population and make sure the quotes in the papers are exact.

Hes obviously better than BJ and having the Conservatives in but it would be nice to have a leader who is capable of speaking off the cuff well. He’s decent in the PMQs when he has time to think of stuff but we have had a bad run of politicians who aren’t capable of speaking about stuff when they’re under pressure to think it up on the spot.

That sort of thinking got the country the charismatic charlatan that is Boris. Give me someone boring with integrity any day.

Atlee was notoriously a bit dull but was one of the best PMs we've had.

Labour haven't had a leader like that since Blair, sadly.

Interesting. Yes I'd say that's been Starmer's main tactic. I'm even willing to give him the slight benefit of the doubt and say that his ostracising of the left was to dampen the political heat, rather than personal beliefs.

I definitely agree with you that he is not charismatic enough and currently needs to realistically rely on the other side to throw it away more

Just a couple weeks ago someone who went to a Starmer speech said he was boring and can't imagine going for a pint with him like you can Boris. Whilst it is absolutely infuriating that someone considers that important, unfortunately morons like that have the vote so do have to win them over

It would be nice. Personally I'd accept shit over what we have now, it would be a huge improvement, so I'm not wasting time/breath looking for pefection. Starmer is good enough, without doubt.

I agree, can’t be too picky. It’s just a sad state of politics right now.

BBC:

Another cabinet minister has been appointed.

Shailesh Vara has been made Northern Ireland Secretary, Downing Street has confirmed.

He replaces Brandon Lewis, who resigned from the post today.

He is just filling the cabinet with blind loyalists. Anyone who thinks he leaves quietly is deluding themselves. He needs forcing out.

I am watching T May and she is speaking some sense, more than she did has PM.

In hindsight, we should probably have just backed her from the start! Damage limitation and all that. Although would probably have been no furlough scheme/financial aid programmes during the pandemic.
