Where do you expect us to finish this season?

This thread says it all really. 1st-3rd seemed nailed on, with those saying 3rd being a tad pessimistic. Then it was top 4, with maybe a push for 3rd. Now, instead of 4th being a poor finish, it'd be incredible.

This is why you dont make judgments after a few games!

The funny thing is I still wouldn't even say Chelsea "look all that", in that you've hardly set the world alight, but the difference is you have arguably the best manager in the world who can pull of some tactical master-classes and knows exactly how to get the maximum out of what he has. If only we had taken the sensible option of going for him, presuming he was interested in managing United.

At the beginning of the season I thought we had an outside chance of landing the 2nd spot but certainly no worse than 4th.

But here we are and given what we know now, 6th would be the highest we could realistically finish. 7th is likeliest but if Moyes can modify his tactics and rely on less than 81 crosses a match we might claw our way past Everton for 6th.

4th is completely out of the question, in case anyone is still wondering.

At the start of the season I said top 3. Now I'm going with 6th.

Fecking dreadful stuff and the manager should get the bullet for it.

7th.

Fortunately Newcastle's bubble has seemingly burst and I think there form over the rest of the season will be poor following Cabaye's departure. How sad is it that I am referencing Newcastle United in a 'Where will United finish predo'...

I can really see us collapsing in the league once Liverpool move double digits clear. Players won't have anything to play for and will struggle to motivate themselves.

Edit: even more so than now.

No way, 5th is realistic. We are Man United, we must aim for the stars.

With Moyes at the helm anything is possible. What's the opposite saying for 'the sky is the limit?' Something to do with the Mariana Trench?

goodness..reading the first few pages of this thread, people were very optimistic. Hardly any of us predicted a collapse like this!!
Being optimistic was hoping for a title challenge. It was realistic to expect top four, we really should have got there.

I agree, I didn't think we'd win the league, for reasons often expressed here.....but I certainly didn't think we would be breaking records all through the season for all the wrong reasons!!

That first page! How innocent we all were! Like happy children on a railway track, unaware that the Moyes Express was around the corner, set to carry them far away from life and light and hope, and Champions League football.

I predicted third for you guys. I kind of felt those expecting the title or a title challenge were underestimating how important SAF was. However I didnt expect this kind of fall either, players are a lot more delicate than we think.

I think this shows the transparent line that makes a 'top player'.

If Cahill can play like Vidic under Jose but not under another manager then he still must have that capability, but system/tactics/self belief prevented it. Same with several of our other massively improved players like Luiz, Hazard, Willian, and Azpilicueta.

Likewise we know what a lot of Uniteds players are capable of, but for whatever reason they are not showing it, if we didnt know Uniteds players could win the title at a canter last season you would think this was a very average Premier league squad.

The first couple of pages of this thread are hilarious - I remember being shocked at some posters' pessimism when they had us finishing 4th...now I'd be elated if we were anywhere near that

Dream: 4th

Realistically - maximum 5th

Shite on a stick

Reading this thread is as hilarious as it is depressing.

fecking trains again!

I think that Newcastle will surprass us too. We have a very difficult scheduling on the following weeks and wouldn't be surprised if we lose all the games against City, Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle. We'll finish eighth IMO.

Newcastle will go to shit after losing Cabaye(seems like they've already started), they'll also lose to all those teams that we're likely to drop points to.

Does anyone really care all that much about where we finish now? Anything less than top four is a failure, and we've all but achieved that. We could finish fifth or eight, doesn't make much of a difference to me.

No it would still be a poor finish, the team and coach shouldn't get any praise for landing in top 4. The reality is they are just that bad they don't even stand a chance of getting even that done.

The only thing that could make this season even worse is for us to somehow relegate. Its beyond words to describe how hard Moyes failed hist first season here.

No I don't care much either, you have first place, then you have top 4 than you have staying clear of relegation, all in between is just boring shit, you don't win anything, you don't lose anything so I don't care about the number if its not top 4 and as long as we stays clear of relegation ofcourse.

Reading some of the comments here is hilarious.

I think we'll win the league, and I didn't think that before the season started.

Still thinking that?

I guess he's able to look beyond the results, unlike the majority of this forum after we've lost or drawn a game.

This came to me as a complete surprise though (after I asked mickeza why he think that we'll win the league). Fecking hell Moyes, you only had to play Kagawa once every three games in order to keep MW forever on your support.

Hindsight is wonderful, isn't it? I still stand by the fact that Moyes didn't start out that bad. We were the better team against Liverpool and Chelsea, and very unlucky to just get a point out of those games. We didn't create much, but neither did we under Fergie in those games, bar a couple of exceptions. People were losing their faith in Moyes after only 4-5 games. If anything, these people were the idiots. It's easy to look back now and say: "hah, I was right all along!" But the truth is, even the most intelligent watchers wouldn't predict our current situation. Not even in the scousers' wildest dreams would this happen. But it has. And now the muppets can finally shout about being right. For once.

Nope, you can't be an idiot if you predict something correctly. People didn't start losing their faith on Moyes after a few games, the faith just was never there. And I also don't think that anyone should proudly claim that he was right because predicting that Moyes will be a bit bad was as easy as predicting (in 2007) that Messi will become the best player in the world on a few years.

Go to RAWK and see what Scousers thought about of this. A lot of them predicted that we won't finish in top 4 and we'll be awful. It might have been a bit of wishful thinking but some (like PhaseOfPlay) was very sure on that and gave a lot of arguments why this will happen.

So if I predict that Andy Carrol is gonna be the topscorer next season, despite all odds(but it could happen), and I boldly stand by this claim, am I not an idiot if it suddenly happens?

I never had that much faith in Moyes either, but I figured that he must have something, seeing as Fergie appointed him. And so was the belief of the sane majority. Granted few people expected us to win, but even fewer would have expected us to fall out of the top 4. Crappy manager or not: you don't bring a team down from 1st place to 5th(or worse).

Where do we have to finish to make sure we don't play in the Europa League, other than top 4.
