Nice OP.

I can see it being a tough game but we should get the win.

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Vidic
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Cleverley
LM: Kagawa

CF: RVP
CF: Hernandez

Subs: Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Smalling, Scholes, Giggs, Young, Welbeck

Gonna be a bloody tough game, hopefully Tony V turns it on against his old side like he normally does

SAF mentioned how van Persie, Hernandez, Giggs and Scholes are all "fresh" for this one so expect most of them to start.

I'd drop Valencia and play Giggs and Young out wide.

Hopefully Rafael is back.

Valencia should be dropped, Young on the right with Kagawa left but given the freedom to roam centrally with Evra providing the natural width. Cleverley should continue in midfield but I think Giggs will get a start.

I'd personally like to see us drop Valencia, put Young out on the right and Kagawa out left. Hernandez and RVP up front together.

I wouldn't mind if Giggs started out wide though, he's certainly improved.

Giggs seems to play quite a bit vs Wigan. Other than Carrick, van Persie and DDG, the lineup could be anybody.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Young
Van Persie Hernandez

Kagawa will probably start the fa cup game, don't want to rush him back and start him again. Kagawa behind RVP instead of Hernandez is a good option as well though.

Wigan is on the menu, time for a thorough destruction. A clean sheet if Vidic starts.

In our last 10 league games against Wigan we have 9 wins and 1 loss.

15.09.2012 Manchester United 4-0 Wigan Athletic
11.04.2012 Wigan Athletic 1-0 Manchester United
26.12.2011 Manchester United 5-0 Wigan Athletic
26.02.2011 Wigan Athletic 0-4 Manchester United
20.11.2010 Manchester United 2-0 Wigan Athletic
30.12.2009 Manchester United 5-0 Wigan Athletic
22.08.2009 Wigan Athletic 0-5 Manchester United
13.05.2009 Wigan Athletic 1-2 Manchester United
14.01.2009 Manchester United 1-0 Wigan Athletic
11.05.2008 Wigan Athletic 0-2 Manchester United

In the 7 league games we've ever played at Wigan we have 6 wins and 1 loss.

11.04.2012 Wigan Athletic 1-0 Manchester United
26.02.2011 Wigan Athletic 0-4 Manchester United
22.08.2009 Wigan Athletic 0-5 Manchester United
13.05.2009 Wigan Athletic 1-2 Manchester United
11.05.2008 Wigan Athletic 0-2 Manchester United
14.10.2006 Wigan Athletic 1-3 Manchester United
06.03.2006 Wigan Athletic 1-2 Manchester United

But that one loss still hurts. Let's get some more revenge.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Young
Van Persie Hernandez

Kagawa will probably start the fa cup game, don't want to rush him back and start him again. Kagawa behind RVP instead of Hernandez is a good option as well though.

That's a good point, if there's any question about easing him in then he should be rested.

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to be able to call on the services of Phil Jones and Rafael for the New Year's Day trip to Wigan.

Jones missed the Boxing Day victory over Newcastle after picking up a knock in the draw at Swansea last weekend, while Rafael has not featured since the Manchester derby win earlier this month because of a hamstring strain.

Both have been making good progress with their recoveries and Sir Alex told MUTV they could both be involved at the DW Stadium.

"Phil could be ready and Rafa will be ready," said the boss. "We rested Robin [van Persie], Chicharito, Ryan [Giggs] and Paul [Scholes] against West Brom so we've got enough freshness to bring in.

You have to wonder what the point of Buttner is at times. Certainly if he doesn't start the Wigan game. It means Evra will have started 4 games over 11/12 days back to back.

If he's not rested for those, and now we don't have any dead rubber/easy early cup round games, just why!

I sincerely hope we don't play both Giggs and Scholes in this match, i recall last year Giggs was poor and we lost that match.

But at the same time Carrick does need a break.

 Hey, Scholes and Giggs worked against Newcastle, why not against Wigan?

Fletcher is maybe a stretch, but Carrick has to rest at some point you'd think.

Anyone watched Wigan this season? Are they likely to go three at the back like the last time we played them? We had no answer to that system.

Think carrick should play this one, he does need a rest but this will be a tough game. Play him this game and rest him for the cup against west ham. Would be quite tempted to go for a 5 in the middle, think we might need that extra control as some players will be tired but may have to play.

Lindegaard
Jones - Ferdinand - Evans - Evra
Valencia - Cleverley - Anderson - Young
Van Persie - Hernandez

DDG and Carrick rested. Maybe one of the wingers will be rested too, and we'll play Giggs instead.

You have to wonder what the point of Buttner is at times.

Brought in to cover the gap left by Fabio going on loan, judging on what we've seen so far from Buttner he certainly doesn't have a long term future at the club.

 The caf will explode if we drop points in this game..

Actually, I think the caf will explode anyway..

Valencia can't play another game surely? Unless Fergie feels he can get one more out of him before Nani returns and the rotation can start again.
