Wigan Athletic v Manchester United

At least one of Scholes or Giggs to start this one i expect.

After so long out Kagawa will other be benched or rested outright until next weekend i reckon.

1-0 or 2-1 to us.

I'd like:

De Gea
Rafael===Vidic===Ferdinand===Evra
Carrick
Cleverley===Giggs
Kagawa
RVP===Welbeck

Giggs could be Young; Welbeck could be Hernandez, but that's basically what I'd like. Arguably our first choice defence for the first time in probably centuries, with our most important midfielder shielding them. Kagawa and Cleverley looked good against West Brom, and I'd like to see how Giggs would do with the younger legs of Cleverley and Kagawa alongside him. And of course plenty of attacking talent to give Wigan something to think about.

At Heart?

Though the way he keeps going, and how I increasingly feel every passing year then I expect Ryan Giggs will somehow soon be younger than I am.

Giggs still needs his customary goal in the league this season.

Hopefully if Giggs plays it will be on the left with Young moved to the right. I'd like to see Kagawa get another start as Wigan are not a physical side.

De Gea

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
Evra

Young
Carrick
Cleverley
Giggs

Kagawa
RVP

Would be a plus if Rafael could start, to get him up to match speed for the Liverpool game in a couple of weeks

I'd expect Ferdinand to come back in, probably alongside Evans. Obviously RVP will start, and I'm guessing Hernandez as well

********DdG**********
Rafael, Ferd, Evans, Buttner
*******Carrick*********
****Cleverly,Kagawa*****
****************Young
******RvP, Cheech******

Only going with one winger, Rafael to provide the width on the right. Buttner to rest Evra, although might just go with Evra and change for the cup game.

To be honest, I think SAF will start at least Giggs or Scholsey in this one, probably for Kagawa as he has been out for so long but I would like to see how Clev, Kags and RvP all linked up as I think it could be sex, especially with Cheech providing the danger of the ball in behind, keeping the defensive back 3 shitting themselves the whole game.

This is the last one of the festive calendar. Go as full strength as possible and get the game won. We can rest those that need it against West Ham in the cup at the weekend.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Evans Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Young
Kagawa
Van Persie

Or maybe Hernandez in for Kagawa and Ferdinand for Vidic depending on how they're feeling.

Diamond please. Persie/Hernandez rested against West Brom, they should both start with Young behind them, and Kagawa/Cleverley/Carrick behind him.

why are people expecting ferdinand to come in for vidic?

If they are both fit they should both play. Without a ffin doubt.

I dont think Evans should be dropped, its his position now and he is playing well

my arse it is.

If Vida/Ferdinand are fully fit they are the best pairing we have.

I don't understand why are people still so obsessed with diamond? We play excellent attacking football whole season, why would we change that?

I think Vidic said he still shouldn't be playing every game, so you would expect Ferdinand to come in his place.

When did he say that?

Unless he's still struggling for fitness, he should be able to play. He looked to be in top shape against West Brom.

I didnt hear that, if true then fair enough but if not then he should play.
He brings a different dimension to our defence. He is a monster, a superb player and one that we really will need if we are to go on and win any trophies this year.

"The doctor is managing the games I am playing at the moment," he told MUTV.

"Over the first two or three months I have to really look at that because sometimes I might have a reaction.

"This is a process I have to go through. I am glad I have managed to play after three months. It is nice to be on the pitch and playing games.

"Hopefully I can play more often so I can build my form and play better."

Here you go, this was in his thread, I know I read it somewhere.

fair enough, I hope he is fit for the dippers.

I have a feeling we will drop points here. I'm usually the eternal optimist as well.

Pretty confident, but it depends on the line-up. I wouldn't blame Fergie for getting some rotation in - this is the height of rotation season, after all - but of course that's bound to make the game more even than it would be with our strongest XI out there.

I'd love to see Vidic out again, he looked superb against West Brom, really gave off that infallible Vidic vibe. But whatever we need to do to prevent a recurrence is fine by me, and after all for once we have plenty of great CBs fit, so why take a risk? I'm happy seeing any of Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling or Jones in there.

Will Rafael be back?

We'll win... and comfortably.
unfortunately I wont be able to watch the game.

We did some rotation for the last game.

Screw it, best fit team out v Wigan.
And if needs be we can piss about in the West Ham cup game.

Making sure Rafael, Vidic and Rooney are fit for the Liverpool game is essential.

Still no Nani back? And why are peoples resting Vidic? I want to see him regain some world beating form

come on...he's been out months, and played a few days ago. Bit much to ask 2 games in 4 days don't you think?

Fergie said Nani won't be back till mid-Jan at the very earliest!

Ah ok, I missed comments on Nani on the recent presser, that's a real shame though, I am not adding to the conspiracy shit but it does seem to keep getting pushed back, although i can't confirm it, I thought he was initially back late December

Yes that is true, I don't rule Vidic by human being capabilities you see, more a cyborg crossed with a mountain troll... but you are right, I can see him being rested then, hope he stays with DDG in goal. Ando can't be far off either..

Jaybezia, a very cursory glance at the Nani thread will explain (in Fergie's words) that Nani's got a particularly nasty hammie which is taking longer than they expected to heal.

And a cursory glance at the last ten or so posts on this very thread will explain (in Vidic's own words) that they're going to be using him sparingly over the next month or so, easing him in to prevent another re-occurence of his injury.

Ando will always just be a few weeks off. Will be surprised to get much change out of March if I'm honest.

Ah ok, I had been off here for a few days and usually its pages of arguing about conspiracies so I did jump the gun a bit, probably should have checked but thanks for the update

To be expected, but disappointing after his early season form obviously, do hope he shakes this off

Some players are quick healers. Ando never is.

Seems to have a real problem with getting match fit again once over an injury.

To us fans keeping fit seems the easy part of being a professional footballer!

Oh wow, didn't realise this was tomorrow.

I can't decide if Vidic would be rested or not.. I'd probably start him to be honest and maybe sub him off if we're comfortable. He can miss the West Ham game and then start against Liverpool. We could probably play what is probably our first choice backline at near enough full fitness for this game and the Liverpool game: Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra (although I can see Smalling pushing out Ferdinand this season as first choice). If Rooney is also back for Liverpool, we could probably play what is arguably our strongest 11 against Liverpool which is crucial (as long as we pick up no further injuries in the next few weeks).

Anyway, maybe I'm looking too far ahead? (But it is Liverpool!) We should still focus on Wigan as despite their position and overall quality, it will no doubt be a tough game and we need to right another wrong from last season to help win our title back.

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Valencia Kagawa Young
van Persie
--
Lindegaard; Smalling, Evans; Fletcher, Scholes; Welbeck, Hernandez

Possible Changes

Smalling/Evans - Either/both could start depending on Rafael/Vidic fitness.
Scholes - Could start due to 'changing the game' against West Brom.
Hernandez - Could start over Kagawa.

As another note, van Persie is on four yellow cards, so I'm sure he'll start this and risk a yellow here. He'll miss the West Ham game regardless.

The West Ham game will probably see us make 10-11 changes and really use the squad, so we can be ready for Liverpool's visit.

vs. West Ham

Lindegaard
Jones Smalling Evans Buttner
Fletcher Scholes Anderson
Powell Giggs
Welbeck

With a strong bench possibly including Rooney, Kagawa, Hernandez, Carrick, Cleverley etc

I think Vidic said he still shouldn't be playing every game, so you would expect Ferdinand to come in his place.

No 'obsession' - Wigan are very strong in that area and do a lot of running there due to their formation. We were outnumbered there crucially last season.
