Wigan Athletic v Manchester United

Excellent performance and result.

Can't complain of our results through this Christmas period.

3 points. excellent performance and another clean sheet. well done

Van Persie has the ronaldo effect, he knows exactly how good he is and makes himself that much better with the belief that he is that damn good.

Nonsense. Smalling fouled him when he was facing away from goal, he then turned and flopped to the ground for no good reason, never a red in a million years.

Oh, so now footballers are completely useless when their back is to the goal?

Smalling found himself out of position and off balance and took the man down, who otherwise would have been 1v1 on the keeper.

It feels like cheating having the likes of RVP, Hernandez, Welbeck and Kagawa up front. Can't wait for Rooney to come back now!

Good result we kept another clean sheet and RVP managed to keep his goalscoring up while also getting Kagawa more minutes, couldn't ask for more than that.

Fantastic performance from the team. Never really gave wigan any chances in the entire match apart from their offside goal.

Huge improvement defensively and a clinical performance from our strike duo of RVP and Chicharito. What a terrific partnership they struck today and Wayne Rooney needs to be careful because by virtue of Chicharito's performances he should in no way just walk back into the team.

Great defensive performance by Evans. Its the second match in a row where he has been very good. Rafael was excellent as usual, so full of energy and always willing to burst forwards with the ball. De Gea literally had nothing to do all day.

A great start to 2013 and hopefully we will continue this run of clean sheets to go with our potent goalscoring.

If you're honestly going to try and argue that having your back to goal 20+ yards out is a 'clear goalscoring opportunity' then there's no point even discussing it with you.

It's not up for much debate who the best striker in Europe is right now IMO.

Good performance, lost some control towards the end but was only to be expected. Surprised neither Evra or RVP got subbed but they should miss the cup game anyway so will get a rest.

Thought the defence played well, Giggs was good and RVP class. Two clean sheets in a row is very encouraging.

If Rooney can break into the starting XI!

Of course, Rooney will waltz right in. Things are shaping up nicely, but the proof will be in the Champions League pudding, isn't it?

Considering De Gea was getting there first, there was never going to be a 1 on 1. Right decision really. Actually, massive credit to the officials today, got almost everything spot on, linesman was immense.

Straight forward victory today and another clean sheet, brilliant stuff. Everything is going well for us right now. Clean sheets, good amount of goals, players returning to fitness.

The best european striker is RVP, arguably over Ibra (although it is incredibly close). The best striker in the world though, is between RVP and Falcao. Nothing between either of them.

Fergie's a genius, his comments after the Swansea and Newcastle games may just've done the trick.

The foul, which I hope we agree IS a foul, occurs about 15 yards from the top of the box. The ball was about three, perhaps four, feet from the feet of Kone. De Gea, at that moment, was about 5 yards inside his own box. No other defender was anywhere near the play.

But for the foul by Smalling, Kone would have been clean through on goal.

What saved Smallling was that he had just entered the game and has a reputation as a very clean footballer. But by rule, that's a straight red card offense all the way.

Wow, what a great performance from the team. We were comfortable winners in the end and the team played well.

How quickly we forget Lionel Messi, who in fact is a striker.

Not a keeper, not a defender, not a midfielder, not a winger. A striker.

Not really, he plays pretty much a free role. You can't really restrict him to a position because he's always so deep at the start of moves. When comparing players, I never include Messi in them. Not exactly fair is it?

Nonsense. There is no way it was a clear goalscoring opportunity. There were two defenders flying in at him and De Gea was on his way too. Foul, free kick and a yellow was bang on.

RvP moves about freely too, so should we exclude him too?

In reality, RvP and Messi are both strikers. Different kinds of strikers, but strikers nonetheless.
