World Cup 2018 & 2022 bids

Another thing that fecks me off is that the world cup gives countries like russia the chance to improve their infrastructure etc. If you can't provide that without having a major sporting event then you shouldnt be given the bloody chance!!! It's a ridiculously arse about face way of doing things. England wouldnt have had to spend much at all, comparitively, on facilities so costs for fans could be lower and money reinvested elsewhere.

Again, if fifa wants the competition go to new, developing areas, then dont allow countries that have things in place to bid. Except, obviously, fifa then wouldnt have their asses licked by princes and political leaders etc.

Russia and Qatar were always going to get it. Money talks, and it's certainly screamed in the ears of Warner, his cronies, and the likes down at Blatter headquarters just as I predicted.

Giving the World Cup to Qatar is a bloody farce, a joke. Australia should have walked away with it. And although I loved Japan's bid for the 2022 World Cup the most, it was just too soon for them.

Australia, USA or Japan would have been fine.

Qatar is just absurd.

Qatar hosting a World Cup, mental. Is the country even big enough to fit all the stadiums?

Sometimes I wish football was like rugby or cricket, with only about 8 or 10 countries that actually play it properly and give a shit, and a world cup guaranteed every 20 or 30 years.

If FIFA had any sense, the World Cup should just be held in Germany every 4 years.

Weather, beer, accomodation, transport, stadia, people... all top notch.

It's retarded, what's the alternative? Because we invented the sport, whenever we fancy hosting a World Cup we just pop in and nick it? Or do we get to host it every single time.

England clearly shouldn't have finished last. So, clearly there were other forces at work.

Whose idea was Eddie, if there is another thing we've learnt from this. If you want to win in football keep ANYONE from MANCHESTER CITY as far as feck away from the situation as possible.

Typical City. fecked the bid up.

I'm not English but I think a world cup there would be truly special. International football needs a venue like that. It's become rather stale.

Would I be censured for creating a Qatar specific thread? That choice is so utterly staggering that I feel it merits special attention.

Not that I was very interested in international football anyway.

Qatar is just a ridiculous choice, I think US & Japanese companies should withdraw any association with Fifa.

Got to admit, the big brands will be furious, they won't be able to entrench thmselves int a new markets for the build up. Whats the point when their time will be better spent trying to get themselves recognised in the Amazon basin considering the population size.

Only this week did the leaked cables say that Qatar does the least to combat terrorism of any country in the Middle East.

my point exactly it will be our men and women providing security for them. Some of course will be paid others will be our armed forces. Such a small country with easy open targets. Qatar is an advanced muslim country but i cant really think of a bigger stage to do something nepherious. Im not saying that we shouldnt have big events because of terrorism because clearly that could happen in the USA as well but as i said several posts ago with the USA going out early in the olympic bid and now today with england and the USA going out it seems there still is a bias.

Of course you can make a case for Russia but not against England it was time for the World Cup to come back to England now i believe as others have stated that 2066 is when it will come back. to bad i will be 101

It looks lke since the South africa winning bid that they have a tendency to give the event to the bid that has the worst conditions.

Money talks, but one'd have thought the highest GDP in the world would have made a difference for the US.

The England delegation were making a point of calling it Fifas game, Even though the rules of football were invented in this country. People have been kicking shit about for as long as mankind could walk. Having cavemen booting a rock to each other doesn't mean they invented the game. The french sailors kicking barrels past each other doesn't mean they invented the game. The Game was made in England and the FA book of rules travelled the world and affected more people than many religous tomes.

This.

fecks sake. No one denies this but FIFA apparently.

Right. Qatar had bloody well better have a good a plan for avoiding a terrorist attack, because when thousands of drunken western men and immodest western women turn up on Muslim land (as some people will see it) in a show for the world, Qatar will become the biggest target on the planet.

Apparently all the grounds are withing a 60km radius. fecking joke, no doubt about that. How on god's earth are the fans going to stay there? The heat will be a nightmare too.

Qatar ahead of England?

Well, doesn't surprise me as much considering FIFA are a bunch of clowns.

12 years from now, let's see what Qatar does until then to convince me to go. I hope I have an income for it by then.

Lad in the office here has been to Qatar, he said their flight landed at around 8pm and when stepping off the plane the heat took his breath away. There's going to be severe hydration issues in 2022.

Why is anyone surprised?

We were told RUssia were going to host it about six months ago.

Just because some bloke has to use the words "conspiracy" and "corrupt" to tell you something doesn't mean he's a fruitcake. Especially not when it involves Fifa and the Fifa World Cup...probably the two most crookid entities in the world of sport.

Everybody and their dogs know that England & USA will be best for Fifa the organization.

But Russia & Qatar are best for 22 old men...

well we dont know that for sure if England would have been in the mix for 2022. Clearly it was money that fueled this (pun intended) because there is no sanity that says having it in Qatar grows the game.

Blatter's crusade for a nobel peace prize might actually be the ambition for the deluded lapdogs at FIFA.

It's obvious that FIFA want to massage their own ego by creating "legacies" and all that crap rather than just voting for the best bid that'd put on the best show.
